Dh has suggested I have a night or two all to myself, tomorrow and Sat, where shall I go? I want solitude and FANTASTIC room service!

A 5 star hotel preferably. Can't be more than 2 ish hrs from London (I'm 40 mins to an hour from London)

My perfect place has a beach right outside the window but it's not essential, just highly desirable
Must have fab room service
Don't care about spas, I don't want a massage
I would quite like a bookshop nearby
I would like peace so they must have quiet ish rooms or good double glazing
Must have good service
Don't want to leave the country

Budget more or less irrelevant, don't mind spending some money (but no a penthouse, it's only me!)

All ideas welcome, thanks. Have Laterooms open in another window!

I have found you the perfect place..

3missyshohoho · 13/12/2007 20:54

What about my suggestion?

zippitippitoes · 13/12/2007 20:55

gosh how lovely and sweet of him i am very jealous i have never stayed in a nice hotel

ItWasOnlyAWintersTellus · 13/12/2007 20:55

Camber?

Camber sands lovely in the winter (quiet, unlike the summer). Rye is quite close by with nice bookshops. And a nice cookshop IIRC.

Or Rye itself? Have never stayed there, but probably has some nice places...

Pannacotta · 13/12/2007 20:55

Oh yes a new Hotel Du VIn in Cmabridge in lovely location, and its 45 mins by train from Kings Cross.

tortoiseSHELL · 13/12/2007 20:56

hotel in Cambridge

WideWebWitch · 13/12/2007 20:56

Not 5 star enough missy but thanks
Rye one has no rooms, just checked online, looks good though

Hotel Felix is supposed to be good with decent grub. Cambridge chocka with good bookshops! (used to live there so bit biased)

WideWebWitch · 13/12/2007 21:00

Drakes might have a room, are calling me back!

Moondog, lol at Sheridan's Lairg!
Lavenham, looking now

Mincepiedermama · 13/12/2007 21:02

Wow. Moondogs link says, 'We are unable to accommodate children under 12 or pets. There is a 15% discount for single occupancy.'

Bliss!

WideWebWitch · 13/12/2007 21:03

Sorry missy, x posted with you, pc slow as I have so many hotel windows open!

This place is gorgeous Amberley Castle and it's near Arundel which is lovely.

WideWebWitch · 13/12/2007 21:11

Ooh hotel Felix looks lovely
Cambridge do able and I've never been there

prufrock · 13/12/2007 21:12

Not Felix if thinking of Cambridge. Hotel du Vin is nice - and you could come out with me on Saturday night (I would invite you here, but it's not really peaceful or quiet!)

ItWasOnlyAWintersTellus · 13/12/2007 21:13

Lots of lovely bookshops (of course), but if you're looking for solitute this weekend I would suggest that Cambridge is not the place to find it...

ItWasOnlyAWintersTellus · 13/12/2007 21:13

Ooops. Solitude...

southeastastra · 13/12/2007 21:14

watford hilton is very nice this time of year, i've heard

ChristmastimeMILGEstoeandwine · 13/12/2007 21:15

No help to you, WWW, but I had a fab solitary night, ooh, 2 years ago, in the Harbourmaster. It is worth the trip. Now have a new annexe and restaurant open. You must make it down there.
hurst house
One Devonshire Gardens, again great for a night of switching off, but its in Glasgow
HDV in Tunbridge Wells ( nice quirky shops)
or Winchester?
Ettington Park in Warwickshire? Stayed ages ago, so could have changed in the last couple of years.

WideWebWitch · 13/12/2007 21:16

Camber sands place looks lovely too, have bookmarked it

You're all so lovely, thank you for all these great suggestions. I'll let you know where I decide, if anywhere has availability, have lastminute.com open too

Moondog, tell me about your re invention week, what are you doing? Where? I fancy that too but right now def will take the night on offer! Think I'll make it Sat then I get the longest stay.

prufrock · 13/12/2007 21:16

Why not tellus? Is something happening I don't know about?

I know shops are going to be heaving, but surely not the touristy bits?

ineedapoo · 13/12/2007 21:16

Please can I come I need a day to myself but haven't got the time

ItWasOnlyAWintersTellus · 13/12/2007 21:18

Oh - maybe I'm just jaded after a few trips into town recently. Ignore me

JingleyJen · 13/12/2007 21:18

would agree about Felix - Hotel Du Vin is better choice -

WideWebWitch · 13/12/2007 21:19

I looked at Hurst House when we were getting married (we lived in Bristol at the time), looks fab.

Ok, Cambridge not quiet enough. Lastminute has rooms in One Aldwych which is v lovely.
Glasgow too far

Now Watford, hmmm, yes you might have something there SEA

Prufrock, lovely as I'm sure your children and dh are... but we should do that sometime
