Dh has suggested I have a night or two all to myself, tomorrow and Sat, where shall I go? I want solitude and FANTASTIC room service!

A 5 star hotel preferably. Can't be more than 2 ish hrs from London (I'm 40 mins to an hour from London)

My perfect place has a beach right outside the window but it's not essential, just highly desirable
Must have fab room service
Don't care about spas, I don't want a massage
I would quite like a bookshop nearby
I would like peace so they must have quiet ish rooms or good double glazing
Must have good service
Don't want to leave the country

Budget more or less irrelevant, don't mind spending some money (but no a penthouse, it's only me!)

All ideas welcome, thanks. Have Laterooms open in another window!

No worries nappies

Moondog at being hosed down...

Can't you go for amazing place (like The Lugger) and do your own spa type walking/relaxing thing?

Mind you for re invention you need to be somewhere like London I'd have thought. What's the objective? To feel great or to look better or to just get away or what? I think the asnwer top that will dictate the place won't it?

I fancy a week during which

I sleep a LOT
I get my teeth bleached
I lose a few stone just by magic
I am alone a lot
except when I want company, when dh is magically there

But hey, I'm pretty happy with the offer I've got!

dading, I have quite a good knowledge of 5* hotels for always up for a look at where other people have bookmarked! Do come and ask if you ever get away!

tortoiseSHELL · 13/12/2007 22:06

I think if I had the chance of a couple of nights away, I would go for a lovely hotel in the centre of London - probably near the museums, and really enjoy looking round them, without kids (not that I've ever taken the poor culturally deprived children there!), get my hair cut, look round Covent Garden.

moondog · 13/12/2007 22:06

Hmm,I need to do things and have vigorous exercise followed by lovely meals and lots of wine, then ample reading opportunities.. Dammit I feel a YHA weekend coming on.

Boogalooblue · 13/12/2007 22:06

Southwold is rather lovely

moondog · 13/12/2007 22:07

Is Burgh Island too far away?

(just dreaming of my 2 nights of solitude here!! )

WideWebWitch · 13/12/2007 22:26

Hey carry on, I love 5 star hotel threads!
Burgh too far for us
Hey, Mariella Frostrup gave 4 seasons a great review when it opened iirc

Is Burgh Island the sea tractor place? I've always wanted to go there.

I want to go to St Martins in the Scilly Isles next. Sleeper from London and helicopter over

prufrock · 13/12/2007 22:39

I'm hopefully doing a week as well - dh is talking to a new company about a job, which would mean that he has to do 6 months gardening leave. To me, that's the perfect opportunity for me to go away for a week by myself. I don't necessarily want to reinvent myslef, just find myself. I was thinking one of those Thalassotherapy sort of places too - or a spa in Ireland - somewhere I can just do what I want to for a week, with no responsibilities. I'm kind of hoping that it wll actually show me that, regardless of the issues within it, I do actually like my life and miss it.

moondog · 13/12/2007 22:44

Whaddya reckon Pru??

vacaloca · 13/12/2007 22:54

Moondog - how about this for you. I've heard it's amazing: www.pura-aventura.com/the_big_stretch_details.php

DingDongMerriLullyOnHigh · 13/12/2007 22:54

Babbington House & Tresanton are my favourites

moondog · 13/12/2007 22:56

Vaca,I'd like the walking but would run a mile if someone (prob. bearded bloke wearing a lot of silver rings called Guy) tried to lifecoach me.

I know where I'm going and I know what I want.
I just need a bit of peace on the way.

vacaloca · 13/12/2007 23:01

Ah well, in that case, just go to that area which is absolutely beautiful and peaceful, great food, great walks, great little hotels and deserted beaches and if you want I can even recommend a great guide to do walks with without the life coaching!

moondog · 13/12/2007 23:01

Ooh yes,go on then!

vacaloca · 13/12/2007 23:04

email me at abedia1 at hotmail dot com and I'll send you some links and this guy's contact details.

moondog · 13/12/2007 23:05

Cheers,will do.

PutThatInYourPipeandSmokeIt · 14/12/2007 08:20

The Queensbury in Bath just makes you want to curl up with a book. Small boutique hotel with sumptious boudoirs and fab food and Harry Potter type squiggly stair cases.

PutThatInYourPipeandSmokeIt · 14/12/2007 08:21

oh no am I too late

PortAndLemonaid · 14/12/2007 08:41

Le Manoir Aux Quat' Saisons although I'd be surprised if they have a room at this notice at this time of year. It is lovely though.
