I can't really be arsed going too far but it would be LOVELY to get away overnight somewhere countrysidish or coastish. or lochish.

any nice child-friendly hotels or B&Bs nearish to Glasgow? i'm not sure i can be arsed driving for more than a couple of hours? Loch Lomond? Will we freeze to death? (i don't understand the countryside...)

Oh God - the responsibility! No, no Wagamamas in St A (I wish) - fab seafood restaurant (posh and expensive, but more reasonable for lunch). Same company runs the ones in St Monans and St Andrews. Fish & chips in Anstruther supposed to be very good. Food at the Inn at Lathones is gorgeous if you want to push the boat out, and the Peat Inn is also apparently amazing.

More normally priced food - there is a Pizza Express in St A, plus several other perfectly reasonable places - nice little Tapas place towards the bottom of South Street (away from the Abbey)

Aha! Here's a handy list of places in St Andrews. If the weather is nice the Ship Inn in Elie is good - beer garden overlooking the beach.

I think the local gastropub must be the Barns in Kingsbarns - pub closed down and has been recently reopened. Good reviews online, but we've never been.

Right. I'm off to get a poached egg.

Non food - beaches, Deer Centre nr Cupar, Pittenweem arts stuff; St Andrews Aquarium; brilliant walks in Tentsmuir Forest and Kinshaldy beach. More anon.

Oh, sorry! Didn't think MN would be so quick! No, I was just asking if you knew someone in real life, and then I felt bad and nosy and asked for message to be withdrawn. Sorry for scaring you!

AitchTwoOh · 13/11/2007 22:26
