I was gutted when told today about the hurricane in florida and there's another due apparently? I feel bad for Hula and her family and just hope they're ok. Has anyone had a text?

I'm here

Thanks all of you for your concern. The reason I haven't logged on since yesterday lunchtime is that we went to my sister-in-law's house down the road, intending to weather out the storm there. But as you've read it missed us in Tampa. We hardly even had any rain or wind. When it became apparant that we weren't going to have any problems, several more neighbours stopped by and we had my birthday party that sil was intending to have but thought would be canceled. So we had a really nice evening.

Obviously some people south of here didn't have such a nice evening, and there are some pictures on the tv this morning of some destroyed homes and businesses. While we didn't want anyone to experience it, it's probably better (and I'm not just talking personally) that it didn't hit Tampa Bay as predicted, because it's a much more densely populated area.

Hula will be fine. It had lost some of it's strength by the time it reached Orlando. My guess is that she will have spent yesterday holed up in her hotel room with nowhere else to go, and probably with kids driving her crazy. Hopefully today they'll be able to go to one of the parks.

Triplets. I think Anna Maria island should be OK. It's not far enough south to have sustained much damage.

Oh, Kate, phew! Great to hear from you - glad you had your birthday after all!

Hula is with her parents or ILs I think, and only has the one DD, so between 4 adults they could probably keep her amused quite easily.

KateandtheGirls · 14/08/2004 14:17

Oh, OK. Don't feel quite so sorry for her now!

juniper68 · 15/08/2004 13:05

Thank God you're ok Kate thanks for all the updates

We are all OK here at the Sunny residence! Thanks for your thoughts and prayers. Our electricity was out for about 15 hours (which is good compared to others in this area). Lots of trees were downed. It was a very scarey night. We were all cuddled up in our hallway with a mattress up over the doorway, one on the floor, with blankets and our little weather radio. Very errie. We had friends here from Leeds and their villa in Kissimmee was without power from Friday night until yesterday when they left. I had them here for Saturday, Sunday and Monday and hope their flight left successfully on Monday evening out of Sanford International Airport. My broadband just came up so I wanted to let everyone know we are ok. XXOO, sunny

Cheers for the update sunny, glad you're ok x

Is Hula's phone an up to date one popsycal? It's just mine wouldn't work over there, though it's an ancient siemens. I'd already checked before going though.

So has nobody heard from Hulaby?

Hi all; just got back today. Thanks for caring so much :) Darn phone refused to work despite being triband??? Was concerned about people like Kate as I coudn't remember where she was.

Hurricane passed by about 5 miles away from us. Parks closed at 2pm that day - first full day there - and we just went back to villa to sit it out. Had some supplies in. It was incredibly windy that afternoon - morning had been lovely and we'd got loads of rides in :) And the rain was very very heavy. Lasted a couple of hours. Inside the villa we were fine and didn't lose power - just the TV once it hit. Felt very safe in villa but next morning there were loads of trees and huge metal railings and signs down everywhere. But pparks were back open Saurday at normal time and nothing looked out of place.

Weather for next couple of days was a bit more drzzly than it should have been but we just did some indoor rides/shows then.

rest of time weather has been no problem. Very hot and humid, but we expected that and none of us are too bothered about heat luckily. Besides all the shows and evn the queues are either air conditioned, under cover in shade or huge fans and water sprays are there. About 60% of days we had a big thunderstorm for about 30-60 minutes around 3-4 o'clock. But you could see it coming and just went to an indoor show or went for coffees. Then weather was hot again straight after and everything dried out very quickly.

Will post about holiday properly later. Got home to Sheffield at 9:30am this morning and had about 3 hours sleep. DD us still asleep now. Have a wedding reception to go to tonight!!!! Only going for a couple of hours though.

Have tons and photos and had a fantastic time - holiday was one in a lifetime :) Will post properly over next few days.

Thanks again :)

Gingerbear · 28/08/2004 01:11

Welcome home Hula!

KateandtheGirls · 28/08/2004 02:10

Glad you're back safe and sound Hula, and that your holiday wasn't spoiled too much by Charley. As you probably know it ended up missing us here in Tampa at the last minute. People further south of us weren't so lucky or so prepared. Looking forward to hearing more about the trip.

Welcome home. Glad you had a safe and fun time. It certainly sounds an adventure!
