Quiet island holiday

I want to go away next June for a week (could stretch to two weeks if it was a longer flight time).
It'll be me and ds (15).
We went to a Spain island this year and whilst it was lovely, I totally booked the wrong resort.
I've been looking at zante (or any Greek island but narrowed it down to zante) and then someone recommended menorca so I started researching there and now I'm confused.
I want a quiet beach holiday on a very quiet island (or at least a quiet resort)! We went to oz two years ago and spent a week on the most amazing island...I want that but without a 24hr flight to get there!!). Grin Does such a thing exist within 6hours of the uk?!

Sipan maybe? Might not be beachy enough though.

leccybill · 03/09/2017 12:35

Santorini is pretty quiet. And pretty.

HiccupHaddockHorrendous · 03/09/2017 13:21

Thanks, both.
I looked at Croatia last year and hadn't realised just how many islands there are. It was too expensive/last minute for last year but will have another look.
I think santorini might be a bit too glamourous for me but I'll do some research before I write myself it off Grin

June in Greece is blissful. There are so many islands - suggest borrowing a rough guide from a library to see what appeals.

lolly47 · 03/09/2017 18:15

I would definitely suggest looking into an island in Croatia. Or perhaps Capri, no typical large beaches but the island is just so stunning.

goatface · 03/09/2017 18:17

Menorca is lovely, lots of lovely harbours.
Stayed in es castell this year and it's one of the prettiest places I've ever been.

Dementedswan · 03/09/2017 18:26

Kefalonia is beautiful x

paradoxicalInterruption · 03/09/2017 19:37

Friends who have been to Minorca rave about it, quiet and beautiful.

Jaimx86 · 03/09/2017 20:05

Formentera. We've stayed in Mitjorn twice; it's a surprise when you hear an English accent there!

HiccupHaddockHorrendous · 03/09/2017 21:05

Thanks for the replies and all the suggestions.
I've provisionally booked an apartment on Zante. It looks like it ticks all my boxes...I just have to convince myself to to hire a car once we're there (never driven abroad before).
Croatia is definitely on the list for another time. As is menorca.
When ds finishes school (3yrs!!), I'm planning to go travelling and would love to spend a few months Greek island hopping so this could be a good starting point.
I was trying to book to stay on formentera this summer but I couldn't find anything within my budget (which was possibly unrealistic!) so we ended up on Ibiza.

My friends used to go to Halki (an island off the coast from Rhodes - not Halkidiki) said it was really quiet.

Someone else recommended that Isle de Re in Brittany off season.

What about Gozo or one of those islands off Sicily?

reup · 03/09/2017 21:21

Elba?

I'm working myself up into an idyllic island frenzy now despite vowing not to go on holiday again after severe d&v in Greece last week!

RippleEffects · 03/09/2017 21:30

I loved Kefalonia too, especially if you don't mind hiring a car and driving.

Its the sort of place that you can pull up alongside an empty beach have a swim, dry off in the sun and pootle along to a little village with small cafe for a light lunch before driving past another empty beach for another cool off.

It has been over a decade since I visited though.

3wayburger · 03/09/2017 21:38

Kefelonia is what you need,
It's bliss 👌

Piffpaffpoff · 03/09/2017 21:39

Fuertaventura? I went there many many years ago (so it may have all changed) and it was the most relaxing holiday I've ever had. Up, breakfast, shop, swim, sunbathe, lunch, snooze, swim, sunbathe, dinner, stroll, bed. Repeat x7. Heaven.

BarbaraofSevillle · 04/09/2017 09:24

I see you've now booked something, but in future, you might like Gozo, a very small island that is off the north coast of Malta.

Which resort on Zante?

HiccupHaddockHorrendous · 04/09/2017 20:25

Reup - oh dear, hope you're feeling better now!
Ooh, lots of Greek island recommendations to add to my list, thank you.
I think Italy will be on my gap decade year list.
I'll also look at Gozo...does it get boiling hot in August?
We're staying in amoudi but I was reminded last night that we have concert tickets two days before we were due to return so I'm now trying to decide whether it's worth going for 5 nights. There are two day trips that I'd really love to do but that might be a bit much for ds on such a short trip. Confused

Hvar Island off the coast of Split is fabulous!

sleepyMe12 · 04/09/2017 20:27

Hope it's not Laganus Grin

specialsubject · 05/09/2017 10:08

Fortunately not.

For future ref, always check the club 18-30 type lists before booking. If the place appears and you aren't a swill and spew type, go somewhere else!

BarbaraofSevillle · 05/09/2017 10:24

Yes, Gozo is boiling hot in August (and pretty much from June to September) but no more so than the rest of the southern Meditteranaean.

Littlejayx · 05/09/2017 10:31

We go to Lopud one of the little islands in Croatia. Tiny island with lovely restaurants and beaches but a lovely big resort . Only 45 mins by ferry to Dubrovnik Smile
