Another vote for Waddeddon. Great childrens playground in the woods and beautiful gardens with a really great hill for rolling down.

Stowe is also beautiful. The temples make great stages for impromptu dance performances and there are loads of great places for hide and seek and tree climbing.

Also really enjoyed Sheffield Park, Scotney Castle, Batemans and Nymans.

Look out for the National Trust Big Camp (think they are mostly in July) where they have weekend camping in some of these places. We went to the one in Stowe last year and had a brilliant weekend. It was really good fun with wild swimming and a night nature walk. Children loved it.....

Petworth Park and House in W Sussex. Plenty of outside space and Capability Brown landscape to run around in!

Also Devils Punchbowl near Hindhead.

Maze?? You need Glendurgan gardens in Cornwall!! maze and a half that is!! Also has a beach and giant swings.

Tatton park has a great kids play area, maze (though not as impressive as Glendurgan's) and a children's rare breed farm which you take a tractor ride to.

Best place ever though IMHO is Kynance Cove. Spectacular beach, nice café, free parking with your sticker!

We like Waddesdon and The Vyne.

After reading this thread we went to Cambridge and visited Anglesey Abbey and Wimpole Estate. These were great so will plan another trip based on mners recommendations! DH actually wants to return to both in summer to enjoy them more.

Hijacking the thread a bit. Does anyone have any recommendations for South Yorkshire/ Midlands? Particularly for toddlers?

We love wimpole here, the playground, picnic area, maze and the farm are great.
We went to a NT place called houghton mill. It's got lovely riverside walks and the mill itself had lots of interactive stuff that my son enjoyed playing with.
