Since the last thread (www.mumsnet.com/Talk/general_advice_tips/a2043055-Passport-Processing-Time) is now full I though we could continue our discussions here!

Thanks janjan and kika - hopefully the 6 week target is still working for here - daumen stark gedrueckt!!

I know it happens every year - and I should have sent it off earlier - but it's still technically in date - I did it now as I thought I'd not get in done in between coming back from hols (beginning Aug) and wanting to go away again at the beginning of Oct. I took a colour copy of it and wonder how far I could get with that!!

chocchoc30 · 23/06/2014 17:09

I got through first time when I called today.

chocchoc30 · 23/06/2014 17:11

Sunshinehopeful fingers crossed mine gets sorted tomorrow then as it was started on the 4th June.

Irishtown · 23/06/2014 19:13

You should email the head man there's no other way of getting your passports on time. I did and I passed this info to others and we've all or are getting our passports in a few days. Google Paul Pugh CEO of passport office and his email comes up. My 3 overseas renewals came today by DHL. I am the happiest woman alive. Good luck

sunshinehopeful · 23/06/2014 19:40

Happy days irishtown. I know you've been chasing it for ages!!!!

Update from me. My sons' passports posted 29/5, text confirming receipt 2/6.

Lots of panic from me as I saw the headlines, particularly since I hadn't noted the barcodes. Thanks to a helpful poster on here and a very helpful Barclays bank, got the barcodes from the back of my cheque (which cleared 9/6).

Called 0300 number on 16/6 who confirmed both were awaiting inspection. Called again on 19/6 to be told that they couldn't find passport numbers. Was promised call back. No call back.

Phoned Peterborough this afternoon on 0845 6015549. Got through in 17 mins and spoke to a lovely lady who confirmed that both passports had passed inspection and had been received by central printing today. We will get them this week, 3 and a bit weeks from posting.

The 0300 number is really only any use to find out which office is dealing with your passport. Its not their fault, they don't have access to the in information and the call back system doesn't work.

If your application is at Peterborough it seems to be working well and the number above will get you through (ignore the messages whilst you're holding).

It seems to be that the system works just fine providing you have included everything. The issue is leadership - inadequate planning for entirely predictable demand and resources poured into a toothless call centre designed to keep you away from someone who can answer your question and to complicate and elongate the process. And as for the barcodes, lady at Peterborough didn't even ask, she found me using name and postcode like everyone else on Earth.

jazzypinkpuppet · 23/06/2014 22:09

Thank you ClarinsGirl mine was sent a few days after you and is in Peterborough so that is very reassuring xx

jacksoneer · 24/06/2014 06:15

Anyone have liverpool passport office direct numbers?
I have been calling the 0300 many many times, they said I will get call back from them, and I'm stilling waiting...

tealover1985 · 24/06/2014 09:03

Liverpool 0845 601 2058 be prepared to wait!

jacksoneer · 24/06/2014 09:29

Re tealover1985: I'm calling now, thank you for the number. Any idea of how long i have to wait till someone pick up the call?

sunshinehopeful · 24/06/2014 10:11

Was supposed to get a call from upgrades yesterday - it never happened. But while ringing the Belfast Office I got a text to say my passport is being printed!! Any idea how long it'll take to arrive? I work 9-5 so will not be home to receive it and don't fancy chasing a courier for another few days as I need it by the weekend.

(my application was entered in their system on June 3rd).

sunshinehopeful I had a fast track appointment in Liverpool yesterday and I asked about having to wait in for the passport to be delivered, the guy explained that if it was a 'normal' letterbox they would just post it through.
Hope you get it in time.

vinoandbrie · 24/06/2014 10:19

It seems the end is in sight. As mentioned upthread, I went to the Liverpool Passport Office yesterday (with my newborn, from London - such fun Hmm).

I didn't have an appointment but they let me in anyway, I only had to wait ten minutes to be seen. I explained the situation to a real life person at a desk, who was very helpful, said that the application was being dealt with by the night shift and she'd pass them my letter and ask them to call me.

Nothing dramatic, but left the office feeling glad I'd tried everything I could think of, after numerous pointless calls to 0300 number and tracking online.

7.10 last night I got a phonecall from the guy who is dealing with it, saying he is passing it through to be printed and should be with us by Friday. I nearly fell off my chair. Just now I've received a text from HM Passport saying "Your new passport is now being printed and should arrive in the next few working days. Keep it safe at all times...."

Feeling v pleased!!!

tealover1985 · 24/06/2014 10:22

I got through to Liverpool yesterday afternoon after only 30 minutes but prior to this I had tried a few times and it had rung out for up to an hour before I had to put it down to try to get DS to nap! It's hard to be on hold all day with a clingy baby to contend with too.

brannagirl · 24/06/2014 10:23

Hi, just joining the passport saga. I live in Ireland, finally got through to Belfast office this morning. Pleasant enough woman admitted that although my passport was received on 20th May, it hasn't been looked at and overseas passports applications are "not really up to that date in May yet". I'm due to fly to France next week, rather stupidly though 5 and a bit weeks would be plenty for a straightforward adult renewal. If you have an overseas passport application in Belfast be warned that they are not even close to the same level as they are for domestic. And fast-track is not an option for overseas. Don't know whether to give up, cry or keep hoping.

dipitydoyou · 24/06/2014 10:26

Oh vinoandbrie that is brilliant news!

I was there yesterday I found them to be really helpful as well. Glad the end is in sight for you Smile

vinoandbrie · 24/06/2014 10:31

Thank you dipity, I'm feeling like a weight is lifting! Glad they were good for you too, really hope you get your passport/s ASAP too....

Lookingforadvice123 · 24/06/2014 11:11

I don't know how I'm going to get hold of the Peterborough office! I just get kept on hold all the time, and they're only open 9-5 so can't even call after work!!!?

jacksoneer · 24/06/2014 11:33

YAYYY!!! I have waited for over 40 mins on the phone, and finally picked up by their staff, he was so helpful, totally made my day :D

chocchoc30 · 24/06/2014 11:43

Still no news here but hopefully working on the 4th June applications today.

sunshinehopeful · 24/06/2014 12:08

chocchoc30 I reckon they probably are working on the 4th June today if mine has gone to print at 9:30 today, i imagine it was looked at by an examiner yesterday. I have been trying to get through to Belfast to confirm the potential upgrade doesn't affect the normal processing - I am 99% sure my application wasn't upgraded because the upgrade team never called like they were supposed to get details.

I think the Belfast Office have all gone home...just ringing and ringing...

Good luck everyone - keep on at them!

Bugger! Was feeling very smug about the whole passport thing and suddenly realised that DS2 (5) passport expired last month.

We have 7 weeks before we go away. I've applied online and am getting photos done today.

Please tell me this will be OK!

Lookingforadvice123 · 24/06/2014 12:50

Does anyone have the alternative number for Peterborough? I've been on hold - on my mobile - for 40mins! I'm going to have to finish my lunch break soon so can't stay on hold forever!

dipitydoyou · 24/06/2014 12:53

newrecruit I was exactly the same as you, had 7 weeks to travel and realised DD passport had expired.

Because of all the chaos in the papers I booked Fast Track straight away and had my appointment yesterday in Liverpool.

The guy who dealt with me said that 7 weeks would have been plenty of time for a simple renewal and the back log was mainly first passports, and oversea applications that used to be done via the embassy. But having read this thread I am not overly confident that would have been the case.

I'm sure 7 weeks will be fine, but if you haven't had anything back in say in 3-4 weeks I'd be getting in touch with the passport office that is dealing with your application and asking it to be fast tracked. If you go through this thread all the relevant numbers are on here.

Good luck

I've give up ringing the main Durham office and emailing mp etc. I dread too think how much my phone bills gonna be after end less calls to them lasting over 1-2 hours everytime!! I've give up and just hope mine and husbands arrive shortly so I can get our supporting documents bk so we can send them with our childrens to get there's processed!! We can't afford to pay for upgrades etc as already cost us enough for 5 passports which includes my 3 childrens and also with the cost of the holiday over £2000!!! Even though I've still got few weeks before we go they have already had them 4 weeks and still not been examined!! :-( personally I think instead of pulling ppls applications out to get them done because they fly within 7 days is stupid because I can't see how it's shifting the backlog any quicker by doing that! I know ppl book holidays before getting there passports back who doesn't when the price is right! But I think it's just causing more of a bloody nightmare!! They should start to be processed as soon as they r recieved!!
