Passport Processing Time

Anyone have any idea on processing time of First Passports at the moment? We sent our daughters application via check and send almost 2 weeks ago and no idea on when to expect it back. Hopefully someone can shed some light?!

Jamtoast12 her first passport was done when she was 4 months old. I from my understanding all children under 11 had to have application countersigned. She also looks A LOT different from first passport pic. Her skin has gotten darker, more hair obviously and her facial features are obviously more developed. I filled out every thing to reduce chance of them wanting extra info. Really wasn't expecting them to contact countersignatory though

bettyelizabeth14 · 04/06/2014 08:45

Well my passport arrived this morning by courier, so hopefully this will restore some faith as they said to expect it in 7 days as it was only sent to print yesterday. Good luck everyone.

1charmed · 04/06/2014 08:48

I tried the 0191 number and was met with a rude response saying that I would be reported for using this number!! I have emailed Thersea May, the chief executive of passport services and my local MP still no help. My MP even got fobbed off and was told dealing with applicants who leave within 48hours.

I am so stressed DS passport is a renewal so I don't understand why it can take so lol? He is due to travel on Monday but it looks unlikely. Any ideas what I can do next

indie123 · 04/06/2014 11:57

1charmed. Oh dear...have you tried the 0845 number? Maybe once you fall within the 48 hour time frame they will be more helpful. Just keep pestering them and hopefully you will get it in time. I understand how stressful this all is. If you can get it to be printed in the next few days maybe see if you can go in person to collect it if that's an option

Sequoia57 · 04/06/2014 12:54

I sent off for a passport renewal on 21 May and I haven't had a text saying they have received it. Should I be worried? We are not travelling until July, so not immediately alarming. My sister just sent a renewal in and had a text right away, but she is in Midlands and we are South West.

TheMuppetsIsWhereIShouldBe · 04/06/2014 13:05

I never got a text with my passport and didn't get a printing one with my sons the text service isn't something to rely upon I was told by the passport office

BeyondBurma · 04/06/2014 13:46

Muppet I haven't received a text either and send mine on 19th May. Also don't travel until July but keep have flutters of mad worry.

I also very stupidly, neglected to write down the bar codes - so angry with myself.

BeyondBurma · 04/06/2014 13:47

Sorry that was also to Sequoia re being worried about not receiving text Smile.

TheMuppetsIsWhereIShouldBe · 04/06/2014 13:54

Beyond - ring the 0845 number and they can look it up with address not barcode.

I just rang and my son's was printed at 12:30 and will receive it in 48 hours but haven't received a text

bighairyandy · 04/06/2014 16:16

Thanks for all the advice in this thread. Found it in a panicked Google search and it's been invaluable to us.

Just one question: what's the latest the Upgrade Team has phoned anybody to upgrade to the Fast Track service? We're awaiting a call back and evening approaches, with the kids' granny (who's the one taking them on holiday) every bit as anxious as us to see the upgrade put through.

Sequoia57 · 04/06/2014 17:15

Hi thanks for your replies. I feel better. I also didn't write down any numbers or photocopy anything as I have never had any problems before. Has anyone received their passports fairly promptly without receiving a text?

hw1409 · 04/06/2014 17:47

I can only speak for renewals/name change, but I posted mine 3 weeks ago and received my new passport and documents this afternoon. I didn't receive a text confirming the application had been received, but I did get one yesterday saying it was being printed and it arrived today. That was using the Peterborough office.

Quarmygrant · 04/06/2014 19:19

hw1409 that's great news and gives me hope! Mine was Peterborough too.

Sequoia I didn't write down anything either, it's a miracle I sent it registered even. Totally my fault, too complacent Blush. That's a lesson learnt then although saying that I remember about 30 years ago desperately trying to get through to the passport office and ringing from one of those big dial phones with obviously no repeat number button on it! Round and round the dial went all day and the lines were constantly engaged, never did get through!

Chloeboe1 · 04/06/2014 20:57

Hi all, sent my daughters first passport app via check & send on 15th May, received text on 19th saying it had been received. Travelling on the 13th June so getting very worried ( I know I left it late!!) Rang the 0300 number earlier, guy seemed helpful, took all my details & said he would e mail Durham office to give me a call back. Reading this thread can't say I'm hopeful of one! Could anyone tell me my options about fast track etc, I will try Durham direct first thing tomorrow, many thanks.

Becks6765 · 04/06/2014 21:31

We sent my husbands renewal and my babies first passport on 30th April check and send. Apparently they received it on 3rd May but heard nothing since then. Have been ringing constantly all week on the 0300 number and keep being told I will be called by the Durham office within 48 hours. Been told this 4 times now! No call has come so I have put in a complaint. Luckily we have not booked a holiday but we would like to. Seems ridiculous some people are getting their passports and some not! I read on here somewhere that someone else posted theirs on the 30th April and got them back 22nd May! So frustrating. Also do not understand why our passports have gone to Durham when we live as far south west as you can basically be! Anyone know the current waiting times?

Becks I would call the 0845 durham number. They received my daughters on 5th may. I believe it started to be examined but on Monday the examiner put a 'pause' on it and sent letter to countersigner which is why there's now a hold up. If i hadn't called them directly I wouldn't even know this as I've since called 0300 with some questions and even yesterday they said the application is fine it's just simply waiting to be seen! Definitely call durham direct for accurate upto date info!

yummmymummy1 · 05/06/2014 11:06

i have been waiting 6 weeks for 3 passport 1 child renewal and 2 kids firsts i have been going round in circles for weeks trying to find out whats going on requesting ring backs to no avail finally rang a direct number i found on another forum this morning to be told that all 3 of them were taken for a security spot check but were released by the security team on the 2nd june but they couldnt tell me how long it would now take to process them :(

bighairyandy · 05/06/2014 13:01

Finally got my son's and daughter's passports sorted today. Fast Track going through right now, with no extra charge because they'd already had them so long. Can't begin to explain my relief. This thread has been invaluable to us; thank you for everybody's help.

northernpapa · 05/06/2014 13:15

bighairyandy how long were you waiting?

yummmymummy1 · 05/06/2014 14:05

TheMuppetsIsWhereIShouldBe · 05/06/2014 14:16

Got my sons passport today! Mine still hasn't been looked at Hmm

Vietnammark · 05/06/2014 15:34

I have just got through to Bristol again as it has gone passed the 72 hour deadline that they assured me, once again, that someone would get back to me within. It now being 75 hours.

Today they told me their deadline was 3 full working days and not 72 hours so someone should get back to me today. They advised me that if someone doesn't get back to me today then I should call tomorrow and make a complaint.

Three months and two days so far!!
