Passport Processing Time

Anyone have any idea on processing time of First Passports at the moment? We sent our daughters application via check and send almost 2 weeks ago and no idea on when to expect it back. Hopefully someone can shed some light?!

Baffled as to why people ask their MP's to get involved? What's that all about?

Beyondburma I did the same thing I didn't have the barcode 0300 wasn't helping me all they did was send and email to durham they said they would call me back in the next 48 hours that was last week but called the 0845 number and now the passport should be with us on Monday not traveling till end of July but did get scared reading a few threads

Regarding the MP situation I heard that MPs don't help not sure how true it is but iv seen a few people say that MPs do help and a few people say they don't not sure about that one

08456015175 they asked me how I got the number apparently your not ment to have it but with no barcode and no one to give any information just call it I think that's the durham passport office they will ask you a few security questions then your good to go also make sure your phone battery is full waiting time can be up to 45 mins let us know the out come x

I got a call at lunch time on tuesday - passports arrived exactly 24 hours later.

Yes we fly tomorrow!! I was so stressed (great for bikini weight loss though)

I would hope MPs have slightly more important things to do with their time. I mean, I know it is of great importance to the individual concerned, but aren't MPs supposed to be doing things that benefit the community and people in general rather than helping individuals get their passports faster?

I wonder where the MP would stand if they get involved in pushing an application through for someone who subseqently turns out to be a fraudster?!

I have a positive story to share. DH submitted child's first passport application 9 th may. Had text 14 th June to say it had been received. Travelling 17 th June so cut it fine. Also thought DH was arranging fast track, but he sent it check and send. Found out it wasn't being fast tracked at the same time as seeing the media reports and the Mumsnet threads and panicked. Called them this Tuesday. Told they would call back in 48h. They called 24 h after my call. They agreed to upgrade and said someone else would call within 24 h to take payment. They called yesterday, took payment (57 quid) and said would be with me by Saturday. I got a text today saying it had been dispatched. So they dealt very quickly with my upgrade request. It has cost me double what it should have, but I don't care as long as I don't miss my holiday. My passport was at Peterborough by the way.

I agree re MP's! Wouldn't even cross my mind, this problem is definitely my fault.

I spoke to someone on the 300 line who was very helpful and it didn't take long to get through and that was at 5pm on a Friday evening.

Sent passport form off 5 week ago I lost my last one i go away now in 5 days and still no passport. When I rang the help line I was told it has not even been looked at has anyone been to Durham office without app think I'm going to go I'm getting no help with the helpline anyone have phone number for them don't think I will be going anywhere on Saturday

They WONT see you if you just turn up just let you hrs the phone for the 0300 number

Have you told them the date you fly and asked for an upgrade?

They put me on the 48 hour call back that runs out tom kids will be heart broken if they don't go away just hope they will sort it for me I am willing to go pick it up do u know if they ring back when they say they will thanks

They don't answer the phones on weekend so I'd ring the 0845 number 8am Monday and ask again

Ok. This is what you need to do. Phone the Durham number from 8am onwards Monday. Ignore the recorded message about having received a letter. E mail your MP asking for their help. This worked for me..I fly tomorrow morning-passport arrived Thurs pm. :-)

Life have they taken payment yet?

They'll be sat in a queue waiting to be looked at then it'll be updated I believe.

Hello - just a quick question as didn't want to start a whole new thread - do you think 6 weeks is enough time to get a passport renewal back currently, or should I pay for check and send/try for an appointment?
