Somewhere like Barcelona....but not Barcelona

opeysmum · 30/01/2013 16:51

We are escaping for a weekend away without the kids at beginning June. Barcelona pretty much matches the description of what we're looking for...sun, some culture, nice bars, great hotels, sea, beautiful views...but I have been several times before and would like to go somewhere different. Any suggestions gratefully received - thank you

Valencia is fab, like Palma (majorca) too.

I love Madrid. Food, drink, museums. June will be hot.

Also fancy Valencia after seeing on tv. Bit like Madrid but on the coast??

Lisbon?

Stockholm is lovely for a weekend break and has everything you've asked for.

opeysmum · 30/01/2013 21:08

lovely, will get on the case - thank you

another vote for valencia...lovely and calm as well

TheSmallerPenguin · 30/01/2013 21:11

Yes, Valencia, definitely. Similar to Barcelona but without the crowds and the pickpockets.

Madrid could be too hot in June, there isn't really anywhere to go to cool down.

whateveritakes · 30/01/2013 21:25

Palma. Funky yet expensive and classy

Valencia felt too spread out for me. Expensive

Nice? Alghero?

Fluffy1234 · 31/01/2013 09:12

Tallin or Copenhagen?

Seville.

wildstrawberryplace · 31/01/2013 09:19

Copenhagen! It has the same feel as Barcelona - coastal city with beaches, lots of foodie scene restaurants, thriving bar scene, good metro system, plenty of art and culture, both have permanent retro amusement parks, and both have a quite a distinctive personality.

LeucanTheMopsis · 31/01/2013 09:20

Seville. Less, er, adventurous than Naples.

Nice.. we stayed at Hotel Suisse in Sept.. fab views from hotel... and loved the place.

magentastardust · 31/01/2013 12:25

I would say Copenhagen or Palma both great for city break.

lottiegarbanzo · 31/01/2013 15:38

Nice is great for art and strolling, stony beach though. Agree Seville feels civilized and relaxed.

Longdistance · 31/01/2013 15:39

Prague. Lots of history, atmosphere too.

MerylStrop · 31/01/2013 15:46

Lisbon is fantastic, that is where I would go if I were in the market for a kid free city break. Oporto is also amazingly nice.
Stockholm I love but it WILL piss it down, and if you are going Nordic and accepting the weather why not Helsinki?

Allinonebucket · 31/01/2013 16:33

Actually Copenhagen is lovely too yes.

bringonyourwreckingball · 31/01/2013 16:44

Lisbon. Had some fab weekends there
