Hi chaps,
The swimming pool (at the local comp) will be open to the public that week after school. In the hols it is open to the public all day, but we don't break up until 7 April. It has only recently been reopened - there were cut-backs and it closed to the public but various parents with business-brains got together and campaigned to open it again.

I suggest the Black Bull in the market place or the Bay Horse (road to Tow Law) to meet up depnding on our mood, don't mind which day.

Ooohh, really looking forward to this. Come too YG if you are around.

Hi,
This has turned out to be such a nice surprise, I have some of you know been a MNetter for about 6 yrs, almost since its infancy, met one other member who actually lived here, met at the pub and I knew her! Now her children go to the same school as mine, and I am old enough to be her Mum but we get on very well. All this meeting at pubs sounds good! Is the Black Bull nr the house we are renting WM, does the house look ok? The lady owner a Mrs Shepheard sounded very sweet. I am sure we could make a lunchtime N245, alot depends on the weather as to what we will do. So looking forward to it!

Yes, that's the pub, though I nearly didn't recognise it with all that blue sky.

The pub is in the market place and your house is 100 yards or so along the road, triplets. Margaret Shepheard is lovely and very helpful and welcoming. I haven't been in your house but I am told it is very nice. (psst - Margaret, how much commission did we agree?)

A lunch time meeting suits me fine, or any time. In fact I could become a fixture in the pub for the week....

WolsinghamMum · 17/01/2006 09:54

This is a bit of pointless info as it won't be open, but there is also a heated open air swimming pool at Stanhope. However if you are ever here in summer it might be useful. It looks lovely but am ashamed to say i have never been

Hi,
Yes I have heard about the open pool from nother Mum who lives in Durham, met her twice, they called here once on their way to France, I met her through the Compassionate Friends Group, her daughter died a year after Matthew. How handy being so near a pub, this will be a first for us on holiday, nice to be able to pop in for a drink before dinner, is it nice, child friendly or not, in which case we can leave the kids with Mum!

Nearly all the pubs around here are child-friendly. In fact I remember getting funny looks when asking in a pub if I could bring the boys in - funny as in why on earth wouldn't you be able to.

Triplets and nellie, very, very sorry.
I just dug out this thread and realised I have missed the boat. I thought it was last weekend you arrived and was planning on knocking on your door soon sometime this week. Sad
Hope you had a lovely time. You can't be all that conspicuous as I didn't see you around. Let me know what you thought of Weardale and what you did. You might be able to advise me on what to do with sil and her family over Easter. Wink

Hi,
Just seen this, quangle are you Wolsingham mum? I am confused! I did a posting on the 8th when we got back to Wolsingham mum. What a shame we didn`t meet, but next time, as we will def go back to Whitfield Cottage. We had a fab week, cottage was excellent except for the stairs, 37! The village is beautiful, very impressed with all the facilities, so nice to get hot bread for breakfast etc. The only horrid thing was on the Sat we arrived Rebecca and I went to find the fish and chip shop around 8pm, there was a large gang of lads outside the Spar, well they started fighting right in front of us and one poor lad was pulverised. Becca and I ran into the shop as she was so upset, the girl serving just said, oh the lads are always fighting!Apart from that it was lovely, we went into the library and they said next time we come we can borrow some books, saves me a bag load! So we went to Killhope, Stanhope, Tunstall Reservoir, Beamish, Durham. Whitworth Hall and Spennymooor to visit my brother. Never stepped foot inside the Black Bull sadly, would have done if you all had been there! The scenery is absolutley stunning, you live in a very beautiful part of the country! If you hear of any other properties within the village to sleep 5/6 let me know, the 37 stairs were abit much! Love to come up in the summer if funds allow!
