never going to Australia. ever ever ever. If I want to meet lovely Australians I can go to Earls Court.

Fennel · 20/09/2005 12:29

don't they eat lots of yoghurt in Bulgaria? I could survive on wine and yoghurt I think.

Any place where you're likely to pick up traveller's diarrhea or where you need extra jabs to visit.

Lizzylou · 20/09/2005 12:32

I never wanted to go to Australia but went to visit my brother and loved it...want to live there.
India and Marrakech/Morocco are great places too
Agree with Enid would love to visit Iran/Afghanistan/Iraq too. I once read a book about travelling overland through these countries and there are some amazing things to see.

Enid · 20/09/2005 12:38

its not like that in Afghanistan or Iran. Maybe Saudi.

aloha · 20/09/2005 12:41

But you could go somewhere nice instead, surely? ie no war, nice food, civilised attitude to women...

expatinscotland · 20/09/2005 12:44

Yes, places where you're not likely to be kidnapped and beheaded on video for being a Westerner, not pick up some disease, etc.

Enid · 20/09/2005 12:46

well tbh I probably wont be going past Salisbury for the next couple of years as we are skint so travelling anywhere is a bit of pipe dream.

But I used to do a lot of it and loved it...the nearest I get is reading travel books which give me an utterly over romantic view of places. I do have a good friend who has moved to Iran and loves it though (she is female, works for beeb)

Enid · 20/09/2005 12:47

ok

I think its racist and small minded to assume that you are going to be beheaded in all these countries. And as for diseases, you can get those anywhere fgs.

expatinscotland · 20/09/2005 12:49

That's funny, my dad picked up dengue fever in S. America an entire decade before it was ever contracted in the US. So yeah, you can pick up diseases anywhere, but there are some you can pick up in these exoctic locales that I'd just rather not know.

How is it racist that some folks don't want to go to a place where they have to cover up like their bodies are shameful or where they are targets for kidnapping and death b/c they are Westerners?

Personal choice isn't racist.

Enid · 20/09/2005 12:51

no ok not racist, sorry. But a shame. I bet there are lots of fantastic people and places in Iraq.

expatinscotland · 20/09/2005 12:52

After contracting Hep A in Venezuela, I prefer to stick around here.

I spent a lot of time travelling, and now haven't used my passport for over 3 years.

The ol' rucksack gathers dust.

handlemecarefully · 20/09/2005 13:24

I'd like to force Cod to go to centreparcs just out of sheer wickedness really....

JoolsToo · 20/09/2005 14:02

the in-laws

Frayedknot · 20/09/2005 14:07

The Dominican Republic.

Florida.

handlemecarefully · 20/09/2005 14:11

Florida is okay frayedknot - you don't have to do the theme park thing, the Quays are quite pleasant....

handlemecarefully · 20/09/2005 14:11

and the Everglades are interesting

Fimbo · 20/09/2005 14:14

Magaluf
Anywhere that has Club 18-30 holidays

Frayedknot · 20/09/2005 14:18

Yes, actually I did really mean Disney / theme park bits, not the rest of it.

handlemecarefully · 20/09/2005 14:22

Ah, right...

purpleturtle · 20/09/2005 14:26

But hmc, would it be fair to force cod on centreparcs?

handlemecarefully · 20/09/2005 14:27

Fair point purpleturtle
