At least 50 fountains and water jets and a refreshment kiosk. Parking and entrance is free. It's right next to a bus stop. Over the road is a fab new playground as well. What a bargain afternoon out.

If you're interested, it's at Belvedere Park, near Bostill Woods, Bexley/Greenwich borders SE London. Just spent a fab afternoon there.

ssssssssssssssssssh tigermoth - don't tell everyone.

Belvedere resident!!

tigermoth · 21/08/2005 19:39

thought of you kbear - it must be in your area. The publicity about it in Greenwich has been non existant. It seems like Bexley council are saying shhh... too.

tigermoth · 31/08/2005 11:06

Thanks TM, we might try and get over there sometime this week! Tried to google for some pictures, but there really is very little about it!

Nightynight · 31/08/2005 11:40

thank you tigermoth.

My DD wanted to go yesterday after we drove past, there wasn't a patch of grass to be seen, the place was rammo! Go early if you're going! It looks great, we haven't been yet and we live right near it but we went on holiday the day it opened.

KBear · 31/08/2005 12:06

Just the place for a mumsnet meetup for those with pre-schoolers when the bigger kids are back at school though! Who's up for that?

Xena · 31/08/2005 12:40

Sounds good kbear. Our 'Big one' aren't back until next fri though.

KBear · 31/08/2005 14:32

My DD goes back Tuesday. We could always do an after school one if the weather holds! That's what I've promised DD - after school on the first day back. It was so packed yesterday I would fear I'd never see my children again!

tigermoth · 31/08/2005 16:28

Just got back Yes it was ram packed, but still space to sit on the grass - it's not as bad when you get inside, kbear. The kiosk had run out of ice creams, though!

FYI, I was told by one of the staff that the water will be turned off at the end of September.

If you have tiny toddlers, probably best to go when it is less busy than today, unless you are prepared to follow them around. Today there was no way I could keep a constant eye on my son but he is old enough for me to let him run around, though.

There are a couple of attendants watching the children as well. I saw them returning a couple of lost children to their parents.

Adults and teenagers were also using the water fountains to cool off - great fun was had by all!

Glad you had a good time. At last some money spent north of the borough and a free day out too! I shall brave it myself soon!

Woolwich Road, Belvedere at the junction of Heron Hill.

tigermoth · 01/09/2005 20:38

drove by it this afternoon and it was closed - there was a notice up but I could not see what it said. Would hate to think of mumsnetters turning up there in droves and cursing me!

If anyone is thinking of going, you could check with bexley council.

I've been reading the reports on Legionaires in south london, and remembered reading a report on people getting stomach bugs when the Park first opened......I hope there's no connection!

KBear · 02/09/2005 11:33

There has been a "request" made for everyone to keep it clean - it's already been closed by a soiled nappy being left in it. It was in our local paper last night. Puts you off a bit!

tigermoth · 02/09/2005 18:37

well, it was open again today - can see why the place needs the attendants, though. The new loos are a bit on the messy side already - too many children running in and out. The actual water fountain area is pretty clean though.

It is not that unusual to close paddling pools around here. The pool at Winns Common was closed last year because some people had been going down in the evenings and washing their dirty clothes in it.

OP posts:
KBear · 02/09/2005 19:04

The old pool there was only closed on Wednesdays for cleaning and there weren't attendants. There was a shop when I was young and we used to hang around looking coooool!

Didn't know there was a pool at Winn's Common.

tigermoth · 02/09/2005 19:05

the winns common pool is just off Lakedale Road - there's a playground and paddling pool in the dip.

OP posts:
KBear · 02/09/2005 19:07

by the Slade?

tigermoth · 02/09/2005 19:21

not quite - I think you mean the pond. Go down lakedale road - near the roundabout and martial arts centre - walk across to Winns Common - then you will see some bushes - they form the top of a large dip - inside the dip is the playground and pool. HTH.

Did the Winn Pool open this year? It was a hidden treasure IMO really nice when they had a good attendent.

brightstar1 · 02/09/2005 20:21

KBear · 02/09/2005 21:04

brightstar - i loved that pool, especially scraping my knees climbing up on the that bit in the middle! (that was just last year ).
