Drama School Applications 2027

I’ve been waiting for this thread but in lieu of anyone else starting it…welcome and good luck to all those facing the imminent stress of drama school auditions
My son is studying the RSL Level 3 performing arts presently and has his first audition booked for Emil Dale BA in January having recently enjoyed the boys day.
I’m keen for him to get applications in early as I’m sure statistically it gives better odds however he’s not ready to audition yet. He’s also looking at actor muso courses potentially too.

I look forward to hearing about your experiences

Hello @pipsy76 thank you for starting this thread....DD is in this cohort and has a BA audition booked for Emil Dale in January too!

pipsy76 · 08/10/2026 15:43

How exciting, fingers crossed for January!

@pipsy76 indeed-where else is your DS applying to? What does RSL stand for?

pipsy76 · 08/10/2026 16:06

Hopefully Mountview Arts Ed Conti GSA and IAB, with others still to be decided maybe Central and RCS, he’s a singer first but has loved dance training over the last year.

RSL, erm Rock School something which sounds a bit naff hence they tend to just use the acronym on the website!

Where’s your daughter applying?

She's still finalising the list but Mountview, Arts Ed, GSA, Central, Bird & LIPA and maybe Leeds Conservatoire/Royal Welsh are all on there so far. What's IAB?

pipsy76 · 09/10/2026 12:22

IAB is international arts Barcelona, based in Sitges 30 minutes to the south, my rationale is who wouldn’t love 3 years by the sea in the Spanish sun in a wonderful international community.

However if he secured an offer for Arts Ed GSA etc I think that would give the best shot at a West end career, although IAB grads have recently taken lead roles in Back to the Future and Six

This was us last year - strap in for a crazy few months and good luck!

Songanddancing · 16/10/2026 09:51

@Sop2 thank you! What was the outcome for you?!

It was good in the end but very stressful before Christmas! 100% self tape recalls. Rejections from EDA and Artsed in person (before Christmas). Offer for Conti foundation Acting MT, BA MT from Urdang and Leeds Con and offer for BA Actor Muso at GSA - which is the one DD took - we cancelled other recalls after that so no idea if Mountview, RCS and LIPA would have turned to offers. She started at GSA a few weeks ago and loves it so far!

Songanddancing · 16/10/2026 11:11

@Sop2 what a rollercoaster! DD is not intending to apply to Leeds Con-she has Trinity on her list....what was yours and DD's experience with Leeds? Sounds like she was more organised than our DD who hasn't even finished her personal statement yet.....good to hear your DD is loving GSA-what an amazing opportunity!

Songanddancing · 16/10/2026 11:36

@pipsy76 I hadn't even thought of places outside the UK! I think DD wants to stay in the UK for the moment-although Barcelona would be amazing. One step at a time!

Leeds Con is great - still not easy to get into but it does have better odds than some of the drama schools which can be 3000 applicants for 25 places!). Its a UCAS application despite it's name.

Went through this last year. Son has just started at Chichester doing MT and loving it. Applied to GSA, Winchester, 2 separate courses at Chichester and a drama academic degree at UWE. Due to financial pressures we had to discount the big drama schools ie Mount view Arts ed and Laine (i still feel bad now but it just wouldn't have been viable)He loved GSA butdidnt get the vibe at IC or EDA open day so didnt apply, also loved Chichester. Reason he liked GSA and Chichester was that they are universities not drama schools and you are mixing with students doing a variety of different courses and not just drama and MT. Chichester is still conservatoire style training and very well thought of in the industry however he does find the town a little sleepy but have a look at their courses as they have a huge variety of different pathways

My DS has his first audition at EDA yesterday. He went up with a friend also auditioning. I was trying to work but couldn’t think straight all day!!

pipsy76 · 28/10/2026 07:33

Did he enjoy his EDA audition? Fingers crossed for him

@Livingtheirauthenticlife how was your son's audition? Hope he enjoyed it as that's the main thing I think! Does he have any others booked? DD still not applied for anywhere else apart from EDA so I am getting a bit stressed!

Livingtheirauthenticlife · 28/10/2026 09:52

Hey - he loved it! He said it was tough and a long day, but he found the EDA staff were brilliant - professional and supportive. We now start the wait! He has Artsed and Mountview booked in, but not sent his UCAS/CUCAS off yet. What places is your DC looking at (other than EDA?)

You'll likely hear from EDA by the end of the week. If he stayed late he had a good chance and the no email comes quickly with an offer taking longer as it comes in the post in a box!

Songanddancing · 28/10/2026 13:18

@Livingtheirauthenticlife your DS seems more organised than my DD! Has he done any self tapes yet?

Just one so far and it’s quite funny to watch. Not a very professional job, but a start Smile

Mcmumager · 31/10/2026 13:44

Wishing all your young people and yourselves all the very best for these next few crazy months. After reading these threads over the years I’ve started them twice but now first child heading into graduate year and the second has started in year 1. These threads have always been supportive and full of great advice.

pipsy76 · 31/10/2026 13:46

Wow Mcmumager its good to hear from someone further in the journey, congratulations on your kids progress!
How is final year, finding an agent and employment going? I hope they’ve had a great drama school experience
