We are having a terrible time with her acxmd she put Bristol first and we are facing a wall of issues .

I don't work for Bristol (!) but I went there – and thus always read threads about it. I gather that the accommodation can be somewhat of a lottery. I have certainly heard, here and IRL, of several YP who have listed six choices and got none of them. Some of the SC accomm is very ££ as well (tho I am sure it is very nice).

What is the issue? Maybe someone with current exp can help. Has she applied but not been offered anything, or been offered somewhere unauitable?

NamechangeRugby · 25/08/2026 21:51

Don't work for Bristol Uni but DC went through first year Accommodation process a couple of years ago if of any help.

What accommodation was offered? What's the issue?

imip · 26/08/2026 06:38

We are in the same position. Accommodation email finally received but the links to select are not working. They said this is an issue. So we are just waiting to be offered something!

Which acxmd was it ? How long has it been going on my DD has been emailing and on the phone since last wed and still has not got anything. They don't contact her we are just at a loss as to where to go next.

she may have to find student accommodation rather than through the uni?

imip · 26/08/2026 07:34

The issue is she cannot see her accommodation option/s. Uni housing were aware the link was down and were working to fix it. It is dh job to manage as I am working today out of the home and he is wfh.

That would be hard to accept as a first choice bristol student offered bad acxmd in the first place that she now cannot get because of their error.
They refused to help with better accmd and now she can't get that because of their links

Why on earth should she /we now scrabble around trying to find accmd when all students including insurance students will have taken up all decent stuff.
It's beyond appalling and has been so stressful and no one has helped us she's been on on line chats and phone calls and emails to get this non working link over and over and a week later we are no closer ronyhe room .
It's a company with a dreadful reputation cLked unite and yet insurance place student have even been offered a choice of acxmd and been given lovely modern normal halls with undegrstduates close to campus with en suites.

My DD chose bristol as a first choice and this is where we are.

But do you know which one it was or can't see it at all ? Was she an insurance or first choice ?

Bristol accommodation is a shit show every year. We didn’t pick it because of it. DD has friends who ended up living over an hour away first year there.

Offherrockingchair · 26/08/2026 07:45

Sounds like typical uni disorganization to me. People talk about redundancies and so on, but if universities were run properly, this kind of thing wouldn’t happen. Ultimately you’re a customer and their entire offering should be so much better. What a crap first impression.

BristolHelp12 · 26/08/2026 07:48

@Offherrockingchair thanks . She's quite shy and has already said she needs all winds for her to make friends and this just seems like the worst of all worlds for her.

I read about Warwick on here and that really put her off Warwick so it's quite ironic we have ended up where we are here.

I feel so bad for her it's been so stressful when everyone else is getting.matteess toppers and hooking up on WhatsApp with their new flat mates

She's out in the cold.

My son's at Bristol, just going into second year. We had this nightmare last year, he was allocated accomodation that was double his budget and a 50 minute walk from campus. I will say though, although we stuck it out as he liked it once he was there, lots of his friends were able to move into better/cheaper/closer accommodation after the first month or so. So when she does get offered something it's probably worth accepting even if if it's not perfect.

No idea why accommodation at Bristol is such a shambles but it seems like it always is.

On the plus side, my son is loving his time there. The poor admin doesn't reflect the uni as a whole- teaching is great.

BristolHelp12 · 26/08/2026 08:39

@ProudPearl this is worse she has not got anything properly confirmed at all yet and where she was places but can't confirm is with postngrads anyway in apparently mouldy rat ridden acxmd and we can't even get that .

ProudPearl · 26/08/2026 09:31

Can I ask why you're typing acxmd? I nearly scrolled past your post without commenting as I had no idea what it meant. I'm inferring from context that you mean accommodation but I'm just not sure why you wouldn't type the word.

clary · 26/08/2026 10:07

Was it you that posted before @BristolHelp12 about your DC being allocated postgrad accommodation and being concerned about it? Apols if not.

It's not super clear from your posts but has she been offered something but she is not happy with it? Did she accept it or reject it?

I would avoid focusing on what other students have done or got as it's not helpful nor really relevant. It's your DD who needs to be the focus.

Also dw too much about accommodation near the campus – unlike say Lboro or Warwick, Bristol is not a campus uni (this has been disputed by MN posters before but the geography of the city is the same as it was 40 years ago!). The uni sprawls, as indeed the city does. You can be in halls in Clifton (Goldney for example) and have a 20-min walk to the uni library or your department. Some of the halls are over the Downs in Stoke Bishop, some are in the city centre. The dental school is in the city centre, the railway station is a bit further than that. It's fine. Get a bike or get ready to walk up lots of hills.

I hope she is able to sort something soon. And she can start to get her things that she needs ready - even if she is in catered halls she will still need a few kitchen things and bits to make her room her own.

Treylime · 26/08/2026 10:16

I am on a different uni Facebook site for parents. It's quite useful for accommodation questions. I'm sure Bristol has one.

BristolHelp12 · 26/08/2026 10:33

@clary not sure.

But the point is as I've written ,she is trying to accept her accomdation

She keeps pressing a link and the link is not working. .

Since last wed she has been on endless phone calls ,on line chats and back and forth and a week in she cannot accept this acxmd hence my despersate plea on here can anyone help ?

She has nothing at present ,nothing !! Nothing nothing nothing and no help.

It's a typo

You mention she's trying to accept accommodation provided by Unite. Have you tried contacting their Head Office? They're a big company. They're not generally part of a university's own accommodation offer - they're privately run halls, not run by the university.

Bristol Uni (and various others) do allocate private accommodation as well.

Good idea to contact Unite directly though.

KittyStanton · 26/08/2026 16:55

So she’s been offered accommodation and needs to click a link to agree to it?

have you tried logging in on different browsers? I use an old version of safari on one laptop & find sometimes I have to switch to a different browser to actually get functionality.

Treylime · 26/08/2026 17:01

Yes try to access the link another way by laptop or phone

Then why do you keep typing it?
