Just coming over here from the very helpful accommodation thread. A thread for parents/caregivers/supporters (or even 2026 starters themselves!)
My DS is going to study Computer Science and we’re from the Manchester area.

My daughter is in park view. Apparently that accommodation is just full of flatcest situations!

Ha ha DS next door at Marris House. I remember flatcest dramas from my own time at Uni (at the dawn of time)!

Just makes it awkward and hard to sleep for everyone else!

Hello! 👋

DS has booked Verde accommodation, he's doing Marketing and Business, so can fall out of bed into lectures (and meet his dad for the match)

We live on the coast, I have been here for 30 plus years, so happy to answer any Toon related questions.

Goldie73 · 18/08/2026 16:45

Glad to be on this thread to continue the conversation. DS in Newgate and doing nothing whatsoever about anything - registration, shopping lists, the lot. Feel like I'm the one going to uni! (sort of wish I was...)

bringonyourwreckingball · 18/08/2026 16:46

Dd2 is in Manor Bank, studying English Language and we are from Sheffield. I’m going to have an empty nest when she goes, dreading it

Northernlurker · 18/08/2026 17:18

Dd3 is going to be in Windsor Terrace studying English Lit after a year out this year. She’s very excited, little bit nervous. We will also have an empty nest which after 28 years honestly feels so exciting! Of course we will miss her but it’s time and she’s done so well this last year getting herself ready, working out the course she wanted to do and adjusting to adulting that I feel very confident about the transition.
We are getting stuff together now. Although she had the grades and therefore a confirmed offer it didn’t seem quite real till she got the accommodation through.

postitnot · 18/08/2026 18:49

DD is going to be in Verde so she too can stagger to the Business school...

It's all very exciting!

DS is in park view studying finance from Newcastle but also very happy to be closer to St James Park !

bringonyourwreckingball · 18/08/2026 21:26

I’m so excited for them all. I loved Newcastle when we visited and anyone I spoke too with kids there said they are having a fab time.

DS not really bothered about preparing either! My DS was on his phone last evening doing something which he said would mean he can see his timetable? He wouldn’t expand on it.

Definitely don’t want to derail into a thread about merits of vaccines, but we’d forgotten about MenB vaccine - DS had his first a couple of days ago at a local pharmacy - if he can’t squeeze the second in before he goes we’ll book second in Newcastle. DD is at Uni in the south near Kent - the outbreak last year was pretty scary.

Brilliant your local knowledge will be fantastic, especially when they need to start planning Y2 accommodation.

Hi all,

Just checking in, DD is going to Newcastle to study medicine, will be in Park View accommodation. We are in North Yorkshire so not too far away and it will be a properly empty nest for us too 😭.

DD has found two others in her flat so far but as they are both boys she wants to see if there will be any girls too (sure there will!). DD is so excited about going. Not done much prep so far but got an Ikea trip next week. Not sure how 'flatcest' will go down with DD as I wouldn't say she is party animal, quite sociable though!

DS said he would get his timetable today.
He had his first Men B on Monday and the second one is booked for mid September.
We are away for 6 days from tomorrow and then DS is off to Leeds festival next Thursday so there will be very little prep done before September here. We already have a couple of pans, cutlery and crockery in the loft.

stubiff · 19/08/2026 08:19

Good to see everyone.

DS couldn't get any Uni accom on Tuesday so is in a private provider near the Business School. Reasonably happy, but not really engaging in the whole process as was gutted not to get into his firm - Sheffield.

Next steps - to register as a student, and change Student Finance to Newcastle, I guess.

Pixie2015 · 19/08/2026 09:07

DS also not interested in preparing things or going out shopping - says will sort it out in days before.Final men b inj next week.

bringonyourwreckingball · 19/08/2026 11:36

We’ve already done most of the shopping - just a couple of things still to get. She’s super organized unlike her big sister who only got back from Italy the day before she moved in so had to pack in a hurry.

OublietteBravo · 19/08/2026 12:00

DS is just about to go into his 3rd year (studying chemistry). He absolutely loves life in Newcastle - I think he might stay once his course finishes. I can probably get him to answer any questions your DC might have from a student PoV.

Argh - didn't think of student finance implications! DS missed first choice and Newcastle was his insurance. Does that mean we need to change something on student finance then?

Toon27 · 19/08/2026 15:06

Watching with interest as my daughter has her heart set on Newcastle for 2027. We’ve only looked at Park View so far and liked it, but interested to hear if there are others we should look at on open day no2 in October. It’s making my eyes wet just thinking about it and I’ve got a whole year!

Yes. As gets re-assessed.

Then probably have to update again if/when DC gets a student bank account (if you want Maintenance paying there).

RampantIvy · 19/08/2026 15:08

Lurking in case I can offer any pearls of wisdom. DD graduated from Newcastle 4 years ago and loved her time there so much that she stayed to work.

She is now studying a post grad degree elsewhere.

Looking ahead - unless things have changed the graduation ceremonies are in the King's Hall, which isn't very big so the ceremonies are quite short. It also means that tickets are limited to two per graduate.
