WIWIKAU Facebook Page - Harsh admin!

Has anyone else experienced being chucked off and also blocked from the facebook page WIWIKAU? It's an incredibly useful page and I'm disappointed I don't have it anymore when none of my children have gone to uni yet! I have shared many a time a link to a more suitable group for Performing Arts chats but this is clearly very offensive to the admins on this group that they take such harsh treatment without any gentle warning even! I have another facebook account which I tried to join on and see they have added a box with a question 'what does statement 3 say' and for this answer you are meant to write 'not share links to other sites' I've also been blocked from there too by querying my blocking! Absolutely bizarre behaviour for a group that everyone should be able to help every poster on!

Yes I was blocked too for posting a uni parents fb page to a parent that didn’t understand the accommodation allocation and was in such a state, I was just trying to help. It’s impossible to go back unless you have access to a completely different fb account and join that way.

Roomgigi · 12/03/2026 13:26

The admins are in it to make money and don't want people going elsewhere

Comefromaway · 12/03/2026 13:33

Yes, i was blocked too despite being a regular contributor. I'm now on the performing arts parents pages.

How do they make money though?

Yes I've been on the performing arts page for a while, advertised from there, it's just such odd behaviour, clearly interesting stances and personalities these people have!

Crikey, what are these people on! So I do have another account and tried to discuss it in one of the boxes and they blocked that account too with no response, absolutely bizarre!

Advertising. They take money from all the companies that run special offers/discounts Q & A threads etc

EnchantedDaydream · 12/03/2026 13:55

Yes, I'm in an unofficial spin off group from several years ago and members have been thrown out for linking to it, then the admins set up their own sub group on the same topic and ours has withered. I've managed to stay in but keep a very low profile on there now.

Kelta · 12/03/2026 13:58

I got kicked off for doing something I didn't realise was prohibited (referring to a parents group for a particular university). I just reapplied though a few weeks later and they let me back in

clarrylove · 12/03/2026 14:06

I got kicked out too, no idea why!

Wow! What’s that group?

I’m actually blocked so I cannot even search for it to re-apply! I tried to get back on using another Facebook account I have and put a message in the box about the situation and they blocked that one too! Unbelievable!

Like a warning message would be a far more human way to handle it wouldn’t it!

Assisting people on a facebook post with links to other forums which are an additional support and not a replacement is hardly affecting their business financially is it........

Do they also block for posting links to e.g. the university's actual webspage re accommodation, as well as to another discussion group's discussion of the process?

Any links basically. When you go to sign up to the page now (as I tried with my other account) there’s now a box that states ‘what does statement 3 say’ and you have to type that you won’t add any links 😳

Newlittlerescue · 12/03/2026 21:23

I'm not sure it's all links (or maybe it's just not consistently moderated?) as I posted a link to the Engineering Development Trust (summer schools) the other day and I've just checked and it's still there.

It's an interesting business model, I see they keep directing people to use their forum, but everyone sticks to Facebook!

EnchantedDaydream · 12/03/2026 21:28

Perhaps links to organisations and courses are ok but not other forums and support groups (rivals).

Rather extreme action for what is just sharing useful stuff with parents to assist what their seeking which is what the group is/should be about

Just a quick message or contact to advise me and that would have been enough but it’s just very erratic and extreme action

I did that too and messaged them and they did restore me. It is a bit mad.

Looks as though Facebook has been hit by a contagion of Wokeism.and Cancel Culture.

Never thought it was good to use.
Too.much personal information

At the mercy of trolls.

Glitterbiscuits · 13/03/2026 19:37

They are totally power crazed.
It’s the worse aspect of Facebook.
Something that could be useful ruined by heavy handed tactics.

Specific parents groups for individual universities are a much better and more specific help.

Hotcrossed · 13/03/2026 19:45

i have just checked it is still my group, i must have stopped following, i dont need the information any more, my youngest graduated a couple of years ago, i will stay there out of curiosity i think

I will seek these out if we end up at one and will have to find info elsewhere but it was useful for the stuff you don’t know about!
You’re right - it’s power crazed!
