Is there a thread for this year’s applicants - I can’t seem to find with a search. Thanks for signposting 🙏

Daughter has applied to Oxford for maths but really unhappy with how the MAT went, she also ran out of time and was just so nervous.
waiting for TMUA results before she decides on other applications.

Bigbus · 30/10/2025 18:19

@ComingInByAnsible thank you for your reply - the Reddit list was very reassuring- no offers from any of her unis for her courses until mid-Dec last year. She’s applying for environmental type stuff but also with the year abroad so quite competitive.

@CalmConfident at least we’re in the same boat! I’ll take the advice of your user name!

I’m glad to have this thread!

Is this for maths?

Maths at Manchester, MORSE at Warwick

Maths at Manchester, MORSE at Warwick

Thank you :)

Interesting post about Warwick making two different level offers, pending TMUA, it now makes sense . DS also loved Warwick ( for compsci) but is taking TMUA late as he wanted to focus on MAT, but needs to get some more applications in I think, as hears about friends getting offers etc., and I think is trying to maintain his calm and not not panic….. the wait for the Oxford interviews/ or rejections is quietly killing me tho! Obvs I’m not sharing that with my son, but oh the days/weeks are dragging!

Llangewydd57 · 30/10/2025 20:51

Greenleave · 30/10/2025 10:40

We have Warwick and not yet sat TMUA. I havent realised that the wait for interview or not call is a month or longer. The wait feel like 7 years ago with 11+.

WOW…that’s amazing an offer from Warwick without a TMUA. Do you mind if I ask if it’s a contextual offer.

Greenleave · 30/10/2025 21:01

It is Maths and Philosophy so might be the reason TMUA isnt required and Warwick is asking for 2 A stars and A( didnt realised the A star didnt work on mumsnet).

Muchtoomuchtodo · 30/10/2025 21:17

ds’s offers for MORSE at Warwick are

A⭐️ A⭐️ B with at least a C in Welsh Bacc,

or

A⭐️ A, B with a least a C in Welsh Bacc and 5 or more in the TMUA

SparrowTweets · 30/10/2025 22:15

DS also has a MORSE offer from Warwick:

A-star, A-star, A (with A stars in maths and FM)
or
A-star, A, A plus 5 or more in TMUA (A-star maths or FM)

or another option as studying 4 A-levels

A-star, A-star, A-star, A (with the A being in either maths or FM)

I feel like I need a maths degree myself to understand these 😆

He’s sitting the TMUA in January and a grade 5 in that would obviously take a lot of pressure off the Alevels.

DS didn’t feel like his PAT went that great so that could be the end of the Oxford journey already but MORSE is a close 2nd favourite so he’s still feeling good about things.

He’s also just passed his driving test yesterday so that’s one less thing to be stressing about 😅

Greenleave · 30/10/2025 22:20

What is MORSE?

SparrowTweets · 30/10/2025 22:33

Greenleave · 30/10/2025 22:20

What is MORSE?

It stands for Mathematics, Operational Research, Statistics and Economics

ArchitectureMum · 04/11/2025 19:36

The portfolio is in! Goodness this is stressful. Now to wait to see if an interview is offered. Taking a moment to be in awe of the amazing artwork whatever the outcome.

TeenWhisperer · 04/11/2025 21:54

Oh well done, @ArchitectureMum! Dd had a meeting with her teacher yesterday to check her portfolio and I believe it's being submitted tomorrow. I'll be glad when it's in!

Justlurkingmostly · 05/11/2025 09:10

Good luck to all those waiting to hear about interviews - it is v hard to be on the sidelines! But it is good to know one way or the other before Christmas, not long now until interview notifications will start.

Full disclosure I started this thread looking to pick up some info for younger DD who’ll likely apply next year (keen to hear from anyone who’s applying/previously applied to Oxford for biology and also about where else they are applying/applied). I found the 2024 thread incredibly helpful for older DD and particularly @Pallando who is a font of knowledge and I’d encourage any maths/maths & … applicants to search her posts, they are very helpful indeed.

@Justlurkingmostly Thanks for starting the thread - someone had to be the op and there are some threads such as this one where I would prefer not to be for various reasons!

@TeenWhisperer good luck getting the portfolio in - all these deadlines seem never ending and looming all the time! The cover sheet was a bit weird to do with the portfolio - must be aimed at essays I think. DD cobbled some general answers together - ‘how long did it take to do the work?’ Many, many hours over a few years 😁.

Nice to see another architecture applicant on here. DD has another portfolio deadline next week to keep her distracted from the Cambridge stress.

TeenWhisperer · 05/11/2025 09:50

@ArchitectureMum ok, dd hasn’t mentioned the cover page! She’ll be submitting it at school so hopefully there’ll be someone she can ask if she’s unsure. She’s applying for Fine art. Any others have dc applying for fine art?

ArchitectureMum · 05/11/2025 09:55

Oh - I think Fine Art is at Oxford? It will be a whole different system so don’t panic about what I am saying about Architecture at Cambridge. I am sure between her and her teachers it will all be in order and you will be able to breathe a sigh of relief for the moment.

CalmConfident · 05/11/2025 10:17

A friend with older kids said “news” generally seemed to come through on Fridays which was a useful snippet. Not sure if correct, but thought I’d share 🤞

DS not heard anything from anywhere yet other than confirmation his app is in !

Oxbridge1 · 05/11/2025 12:10

hi, my daugher has applied for PPE and I was just wondering when we will hear about interviews? She has applied for Oxford, Durham, Edinburgh, Warwick and UCL. She hasn't heard anything yet.....
Also, does anyone have any tips for interviews if she is selected?

mathsapp · 05/11/2025 12:28

Hello all, I’ve been lurking as I feel the stats are against my son who is applying for maths at Oxford… I think the success rate is something like 9%! But I’ve only just twigged that the interviews are online so I feel I need to follow the thread for other such essential info! I have older DC who have been through the system but I assumed that Oxford would have reverted to a more human approach.

Have other maths parents heard about the TMUA leak? Apparently it was possible to see your score on the website for a brief period last week. DS didn’t see his.

pinkdelight · 05/11/2025 12:38

Apparently the TARA results were also just leaked in exactly the same way, the day after UAT posted its (useless/vague) statement about the TMUA results leak. They seem really inept. Between this and the booking fiasco, it all needs a do-over for next year. But for now, my DS didn't see his TMUA score (real or not) in the leak so we're having to wait till next Friday to see how he's done. Stressful!

bettyjane · 05/11/2025 12:49

Also heard about the TMUA leak, although from what DD read it seemed you had to look quite hard to actually find the info. She’s also seen some discussions around whether the results were actually accurate. She didn’t look and hasn’t seen hers, which is a good thing because I think it would make her more stressed! Roll on next week.. hope they manage to get the scores out on time. Have definitely not been impressed with that whole process!

pinkdelight · 05/11/2025 12:58

As it's a test that a lot of compsci students sat, it was easy for them to find as they'll tend to have a click around to see what's accessible. So dumb for the co to make that mistake not once but twice, after having to patch it already.

There was some mismatched numbers that bolster the view that they weren't real, but if that was the case, it'd be so easy and helpful for the statement to say so. Instead there was no explanation or reassurance, just the implication that they're not yet adjusted ie may change a bit, but overall it feels like they're probably correct. Either way, I'm same as you and glad DS didn't look in time because it'd almost be worse having a score and not knowing if it's real or not.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 05/11/2025 13:18

I didn’t hear about the TMUA leak and as far as I’m aware neither did DS.

Is it definitely next Friday that they’re supposed to receive their results? I thought I’d read that it was 4-6 weeks after sitting the test.

@mathsapp ds has also applied for maths at Oxford. He knows the odds are against him but is up for giving it his best shot. 🤞🏻

Llangewydd57 · 05/11/2025 13:24

Yes, I heard about the scores being accessible to students.
Last year the paper was leaked to overseas students who take it later due to the time differences.
