The Southampton dates have been on the website for quite a while now. So, let’s see if they send it out tomorrow. We can’t be in the first week as we’re travelling to Sheffield on Monday and then doing the MMI on the following day. And then a consultant’s meeting on the friday. So…best if ours is in early Feb. I hope there’s a choice otherwise we can’t do it!

Hope the weather is kind to you and good luck for the interview……..my DD is due back to Sheffield for 2nd semester of 2nd year on Monday but the weather looks awful - M6 is shut on Sunday and A66 doesn’t look good……think she’s going to head back on Monday morning for lecture at 2pm 🤞🏻

MyGreyBiscuit · 09/01/2026 07:08

Thanks @Randomactofkindness ! It’ll be next Monday we’ll be travelling up so fingers crossed it’s not bad. It was torrential in London yesterday but it was mild compared to what’s been happening elsewhere in the country!

inae · 09/01/2026 07:39

DD this morning: "I'm dead! 3rd clickbait email from Southampton!"

But, I just checked Reddit and they started inviting for 20-21. Looks like very high scorers, like 2500+.

inae · 09/01/2026 08:20

Actually scratch that, it's a mix of scores, but all 9th decile. I hope we're the next batch!

MyGreyBiscuit · 09/01/2026 09:03

we got it!! now the rush to change train tickets home and book extra tickets and hotel. Back to back Sheffield/Southampton. AHHHH!!

everydirection · 09/01/2026 09:07

Southampton interview here too..Waited ages and now three interviews all close together.

inae · 09/01/2026 09:18

congrats to both! are your YPs both 9th decile?

@MyGreyBiscuit did he get 21st then?

everydirection · 09/01/2026 09:23

My son got 2420 so not sure if that is 9th decile. He's got Imperial on 20th and Southampton on 21st so very busy week

MyGreyBiscuit · 09/01/2026 09:59

hi @inae thanks! I'm guessing it's 9th decile. 2240. and yes, we booked for the 21st as we're at Sheffield on the 20th!

Same here @inae ! Yes, looks like Southampton are starting to invite but like you say - v high scores 😬

catty29 · 09/01/2026 10:09

oo and just saw your messages @MyGreyBiscuit and @everydirection ! Congratulations to your YPs (and blimey that's quite the mad dash @MyGreyBiscuit !!) Am sure your YP will be in next one @inae - think I read that they do them in batches - might have been on here actually...

SwiftlyseekingSandals · 09/01/2026 12:16

DD also got her invite for Southampton at 9am for 21st January. She is 2240 B2 if that helps. Congratulations to all the YP getting interviews…. I shall be surreptitiously trying to spot fellow Mumsnetters when I drop her.

MyGreyBiscuit · 09/01/2026 13:17

ah... we chose another time - I just thought 9am might be too early for us, having just travelled on the trains for 2 days for the other interview!

My dd had back-to-back interviews just before Christmas on opposite sides of the country. Intense, but in some ways it was good to have them while all the prep was still fresh in her mind (just a case of not mixing up the courses!) - she met someone who’d had 3 in one week!
Nothing from Southampton for us yet… guess they will work their way down the deciles.

wow!! well, all trains and hotels booked... emails sent to school for absence request, and time for the weekend yay!!! I have no idea how Southampton sends out their invites but I really hope you won't have the intense wait we had for QM...

where did you see this @inae ? I've not seen many posts about Southampton... (or maybe I'm not looking at the right places...or maybe I just can't read what people are writing!!!).

inae · 09/01/2026 18:13

I usually check Reddit and Facebook. Lowest score I have seen invited today is 2220 which is where the 9th decile starts. There were all kinds of scores, the first one I saw was over 2500 🙄

DD is 87th percentile so hopefully we're next. Hoping for an early Feb slot so that we avoid clashes with mocks.

bluefineliner · 10/01/2026 08:00

Congratulations on the Southampton interviews given out so far! Long journey for you @MyGreyBiscuit from Sheffield to Southampton! I think maybe back to back interviews, or those in the same week are sometimes better just to get over with in one go. Our YP are well prepared so spreading them out over weeks can be more stressful, and as @PurryGrowls said the answers/prep will be fresh in their minds. Is that 4/4 for you now or are you still waiting for one?

@inae it will be just a matter of time for you for Southampton I'm sure but waiting is hard work.

@Thefatbutteredpig sorry about the Keele rejection for your DN. Hope they are able to put it behind them for now.

@PurryGrowls I'm with you on focus shifting back to A levels too now. DD had her first bio mock yesterday and said it was difficult even though she'd revised well. Made me remember how important keeping on top of this is too.

@Curlyshabtree Not sure why Newcastle interviews are so spread out, but maybe it is linked to uni exams as pp said. I think it is interesting the different strategies unis take to interviews. Leeds doing all theirs over 3 days compared to say Newcastle spread over months. You would have thought getting them all over and done with and throwing all your resources at it over a short period would be more efficient, but most unis don't take this option.

MyGreyBiscuit · 10/01/2026 10:29

Southampton crowd - son’s friends have received invites today. Think around 2200 so definitely keep an eye out (even though it’s Saturday!).

inae · 10/01/2026 11:09

Thanks @bluefineliner! Fingers crossed. People are now waiting for offers and we're still waiting for 2 invites :)

@MyGreyBiscuit I saw that, I'm almost glad DD didn't get it today, as they offered 20th and 22nd as choices. DD has an interview on 20th and another one on the 23rd. Three interviews in one week and traveling from Southampton on the 22nd after the interview, to get to Sheffield for a next morning interview would've been a challenge. (I sympathise with your 2 back to back!)

I'm really hoping we manage to get 5th of Feb for Soton. Any later than that and it'll be in the middle of mocks.

bluefineliner · 10/01/2026 11:55

So after DD saying she didn't want a 5th choice, she had a wobble this morning on 'what if I get no offers' scenario. So we decided to put a last minute 5th choice in to give another option even though she would most likely just do a gap year. She chose biomed at Newcastle as there is a small amount of places that can transfer to med. It might just give her a boost if she gets one offer even if it is not med 😁.

MyGreyBiscuit · 10/01/2026 13:35

I don't think it's a bad thing to put the 5th choice in - not even sure where there's such a rule for med/dent applicants. There isn't such a thing for law or engineering is there?

We had put QM biomed and got an offer within days and it was a great feeling!

DN has also done this and been given an unconditional offer.

DS year 4 medic and one of his housemates this year also in y4 came from the biomed at Newcastle route

2025parent · 10/01/2026 15:08

Quite a few of these biomed courses offer a small chance of transfer to medicine after the first year. I would be wary though as you probably have a much better chance taking a gap year and reapplying. Definitely don’t start a biomed degree just on this basis if you are not happy to study the whole biomed degree.

mumsneedwine · 10/01/2026 17:59

Always good to keep options open at this stage. No firm decisions need to be made until May.

However much I tell my students how hard this process is going to be they are always shocked that it's so tough. Hang in there. It will be worth it !
