Hi, I can’t find a thread for students who are off to Exeter this September so I thought I would start one unless I can be directed please? My daughter decided at the last minute she wanted to apply here and got in. We live 4.5hrs away. She is my eldest so it’s all new.

Hi! What subject is she doing and does she have halls yet? My Dd is going too - she’s doing Arabic and ME Studies (4 years) and is in East Park.
She’s my youngest of 4 so I’m an old hand at uni packing and drop offs!

BrieAndChilli · 17/08/2025 15:48

My son is going to Exeter but at the falmouth campus in cornwall as that is where his politics and IR course is based. We are only about an hour from Exeter on a good day so a bit annouign we have to travel another couple of hours to falmouth!

Delphigirl · 17/08/2025 15:56

But nice for him to have a bit of distance from home @BrieAndChilli ? And fab to be right on the sea…

HPFA · 17/08/2025 16:05

My DD is at another seaside uni a four hour drive away (Aber).

Its a magical experience but there will be times when you think wistfully about the perfectly good uni in the next town. ...

hockeygrass · 17/08/2025 17:19

@hedwig123 , there is a parents of students at university of Exeter facebook group too.

I'm on the Warwick uni parents group which is excellent and will answer any query.

Sorry I meant to say she is doing Comparative Literature and Cultures. What is ME as a subject? I have ME but it’s the chronic fatigue variety!

Haha, yes! What was wrong with Buckingham uni?? Why the distance? Oh yes, I know, it’s a Russell Group Uni which she wanted but didn’t actually apply for any before I don’t believe. Got accepted to Kent, Chester, York St John and I thought there was one other but it was all long ago now.

Sorry I am unfamiliar with the app and deleted my message is think but she went through clearing and we are seeing first thing if she got halls at Northcote which she got to apply for today and then if not, Clifton house tomorrow if there’s any left. Oh well, there’s always the caravan we can tow down and park up for her 😂

What was wrong with Buckingham uni??

Oh dear, where do I start? Wink

DamsonIcecream · 18/08/2025 06:22

Joining to see how others get on with accommodation applications. My son applied putting the cheapest options down as his preferences and I’m slightly anxious we’ll get an email today offering a £££ room or one in partner accommodation far from campus. Fingers crossed!

Reading in our case.

Their accomodation would have been a lot more expensive though......

Arabic and Middle Eastern Studies!!

My son is also going to Exeter to study psychology. It was his firm choice so we’ve been for open days and offer holders day and it seems a lovely campus. He hasn’t heard about accommodation yet and I’m also worried he’s going to be offered something very expensive. Are your children aiming to move in the weekend 13/14th?

Delphigirl · 20/08/2025 07:43

Yes mine is booked in to move into east park on the 14th. Good luck to him for the accommodation.

Have you been given any indication about when he’s likely to hear? My son was told 2-4 weeks but with no guarantee.

A671090 · 20/08/2025 17:35

My daughter got her accommodation confirmed last week - but she’s at Penryn

ExeterTwo · 20/08/2025 18:47

We have two children going to Exeter - one had their accommodation offer on Monday - the other is still waiting to hear about her accommodation and its making her very anxious!

Hi - do you mind if I ask please if your child applied with grades in hand? I ask as these kids can get their accommodation earlier. My son has just accepted his accommodation offer, but the website says he can't book his arrival time until 26 august. unfort we've had a clash and we are moving house the weekend he is moving to uni so keen to book his arrival time.
His sister also has east park as her first choice and she is still waiting to hear about her accommodation.

Delphigirl · 20/08/2025 19:15

Hi @ExeterTwo , dd applied last year but for a deferred place, so was allowed to apply in April or some time like that and heard in june.

Stillkips · 21/08/2025 07:24

My eldest DS is heading to Exeter for economics and has been allocated a room in old lafrowda this week. It seems to be one of the cheaper ones with a shared bathroom, which he’s fine with - his priority was being on campus for pretty much daily sports practice!

tealandteal · 21/08/2025 07:29

My children are far too young for university but live near and work in Exeter. My husband also did his PGCE at Exeter. It’s a lovely city and university, your children will be just fine. Wishing you all the best for the next few weeks!

Delphigirl · 21/08/2025 08:55

It’s a great location @stillkips and although not the most glamorous as you say it is cheaper and those who stay there get very fond of it!

thanks v much @tealandteal thats really kind of you

Bigfatsquirrel · 23/08/2025 21:41

I've got a DC at Exeter, going into 2nd year. Absolutely loved the first year. Had taken a gap year and worked and travelled. Was in Old Lafrowda and had a wonderful time. Happy to answer any questions.
