Cambridge Results Day! Anyone else waiting with baited breath?!

My DD will find out today if she has been given an offer for Cambridge - luckily she is in a good headspace and having already had offers from good unis she really won't be upset if she doesn't get in so I am not worried about her falling apart if its a no.

Anyone else waiting for the email today? Good luck to all that are!

We are too. DD has an offer from St A's which she really wanted so doesn't seem stressed. We've been through it before with our eldest daughter who was an ideal candidate but got rejection so we know it's a long shot and not the be all and end all.

MalbecandToast · 30/01/2025 08:48

@kittyquiet good I am glad she has other offers too, it would be awful if they were only wanting Cambridge and didn't get in. I have seen on the Oxbridge threads lots of this and the parents often aren't much better so will be lots of disappointment today I am sure. DD see's it as "great if I do, but no worries if I don't". St A's is a great university, well done to your DD.

Yes, waiting in anticipation for DS2 for Maths. He has offers from Warwick and Durham as well, but has worked so hard, but his dream is to go to Cambridge.

We also went through this with DS1 who was rejected after interview, but is now happy at Durham.

I think DS2 will be more disappointed than DS1 was.

Fingers crossed everyone. Why is this so nerve racking for us parents!!!!

My daughter is also waiting on a maths offer but she's in 2 minds as any offer will depend on step which is super hard. What did your son get in tmua as mine is still waiting on a warwick offer?

Keepkondoing · 30/01/2025 08:56

DS is Waiting for an offer for medicine today, he’s not expecting an offer but will still be gutted if he gets a rejection. He’s not had any other medicine offers yet either.
Im keeping everything crossed for him today.

I think the problem is that people still see Oxbridge as the pinnacle in higher education, without doubt they are brilliant Universities but depending on course there are many more. My DD applied knowing this and we know despite being academically capable of getting in there is so much more to it. The problem occurs when students and parents talk about Oxbridge as being the holy grail and therefore when they don't get an offer feel so dejected and "not good enough", which is absolutely not the case.

He actually got 9 in TMUA, which I realise is unusual. It astounds me, my little defiant boy who seemed to never listen to anything I said has become so academic!

How did your daughter do? DS1 got 6.9 in TMUA, although that was previous gradings, he got an offer from Warwick with that but ended up deciding to go to Durham, where he's in his 2nd year.

Since they've changed them this year I understand 5 equates to the old 6.5. Just to confuse us!

Wow!! My daughter got a 5 so is thinking step might be a stretch. She's really hoping for non-step Warwick offer. She has offers from Durham and Bristol which are still great options!

I do agree with this.

DS1 is quite happy at Durham.

I have never considered Oxbridge as the holy grail and for each of mine applying to Cambridge was their own idea.

They have both attended state 6th forms and were also encouraged there.

But I have always said to them that they don't have to be brilliant and that lots of other things in life are important to be happy. Nobody in my family, or indeed extended family, has ever been to Oxbridge so this is new for us.

I too absolutely agree with this. DD has applied of her own merit thinking that as she has the grades, why not? But is absolutely not pinning any hopes on it and is very happy with the three offers she has already received. From reading the oxbridge posts I do wonder if lots of kids apply because their parents push for it and that's just not right.

Well done to your daughter, that should still be good for Warwick. DS1 is having a great time doing Maths at Durham. He actually chose it over Warwick because he thought it might offer a better social life and he is definitely having a great one, while also doing some work.

What offer did she get from Durham? I was surprised that DS2's was A A C. I think Warwick was A A* A. DS2 thinks the low offer from Durham was due to being at a state 6th form and our postcode.

Where has he applied? Some take much longer than others to offer, a friend's daughter has been told her preferred uni won't let people know until March so it can be a bit of a wait. I hope he gets good news today but if he doesn't it really isn't the end of the world 🙂

Waiting to hear about DD for Law. She says she's not too bothered either way. I think deep down she is as she's been a bit tearful over little things this week which is unlike her. She's got 3 other offers so far but is also still waiting to hear from Durham. Good luck to everyone else's DC

I must admit I've lost track a bit. I think the Durham offer is A*AA. She had a slightly lower Bristol offer as they have wider criteria for contextual offers and she goes to an average comp.

DS is also waiting for maths today. He’s got offers from Edinburgh, Durham and York, still waiting on Warwick too. It’s weird because his teacher advised him just to do the Step so I guess that why he’s waiting on Warwick to get back to him as no TMUA result.
Going to be honest, he loved visiting Cambridge for the interview, really focussed his mind on how much he wanted to study there, bit luke warm about Warwick and is erring towards Edinburgh I think…

Hi Netcam - my DD waiting on Cambridge-Maths too this morning. She has also applied to Warwick and needed to do the TMAU which she did in Jan so the result not back yet. Did your DS do the TMAU for Warwick? Maybe he did it in the autumn?? Just DD only one offer so far, & I am wondering when she will hear from Warwick.
Fingers crossed all!

Rejection here, he was put into winter pool but no one picked him up. He’s pretty sad even though not expecting an offer.
None of his other applications are sending offers yet, Leeds said hopefully this week, an offer from them will lift his spirits. The others said mid Feb and then April!

Offer for DD for Computer Science from Clare. Good luck everyone.
