Cambridge Results Day! Anyone else waiting with baited breath?!

My DD will find out today if she has been given an offer for Cambridge - luckily she is in a good headspace and having already had offers from good unis she really won't be upset if she doesn't get in so I am not worried about her falling apart if its a no.

Anyone else waiting for the email today? Good luck to all that are!

We're waiting on law for DSS too @EscapeFromHubby, @MalbecandToast.

He's not sure whether he wants the place - neither of his parents went to uni and he grew up going to state schools in the midlands so he feels very out of place with it all. He has offers from Manchester and Nottingham already, and he's really keen on Notts. It's a difficult one because I think it would open a lot of doors for him, but equally three years is a long time to feel out of place if that's how he feels.

Still, need to find out if he's got a place at all first!

An offer, Maths, St catherines for DD. She didn't expect it and is in disbelief at the mo! But now the STEP paper looms!
Anyone else offers for Maths.?

Not heard from DS yet, but he's probably in lessons.

Congratulations, that's amazing news!

It's a no for us. DD was really cool about it, she really wanted St A's which she has, I think if she'd got a rejection to both it would have been a different matter. I'm just glad we know, so she can firm and insure. Lots of rejections at her school and she said some of them are really devastated 😢

DS2 got an offer! Maths at Peterhouse. I'm such a proud mum. Particularly as I home educated him all the way up to GCSE level (5 years of which I was a single parent) and his first formal education was going to his state 6th form.

DD got an offer from Cambridge, she was pretty happy with Durham and wasn't expecting an offer from Cambridge but she got one. She's done well. My 90 year old mother has told half of South Wales already :) In fact, when I saw it was DD ringing me before dawn this morning (different time zone) I thought it must be to tell me my mother had fallen again, but no. I didn't know today was the day they heard, I just thought it was January some time. DD wasn't paying attention either, she'd written it off. Amazing!

EscapeFromHubby · 30/01/2025 16:01

Unfortunately DD got a rejection. 🤞 now for Durham. Well done to those who got offers

Congratulations to you and your DS. You obviously did an amazing job of home education!!

Huge congrats to @Marylou2 @Netcam @fridascruffs and @Kcc73 - I am delighted for your DCs.

Hugs for @Keepkondoing @kittyquiet and @EscapeFromHubby - we also got a 're-direction' this morning.

I haven't asked mine if they were pooled and not picked up (they didnt have an email by 5 and are now out at work) .... I dont think that I will ask.

No offer here. I think DSS is relieved not to have to make a difficult decision. He also said he was relieved that the pressure was off to get an A in Maths!

Universityconfused · 31/01/2025 17:00

Offer here and everyone is delighted. But is anyone else now starting to worry a bit about the stress of A level results day … I have every confidence in my child’s effort and ability but everyone can have a bad day. Not of course that I’m saying that to her!

DS got an offer for Maths at Trinity but that brings the added pressure of STEP. He’s also got an offer for Durham which is his 2nd choice so he’s happy as long as he gets the grades for either of those. He’s got a lot of hard work ahead of him.
A-level results day is also his 18th birthday so either way we’ll be having one hell of a party.

Well done to your DS, a Trinity maths offer is amazing, especially for an August-born.

DD's birthday was the day before results last year - it was the first time she had her birthday party actually on her birthday, as for once nobody was on holiday. I think they were all quite glad to have the distraction, although it didn't go on too late as they all wanted to be up at 8am. (She didn't make the STEP grades, but was genuinely quite happy for it to go either way, so she was very relaxed.)

Congratulations to your DS, that's amazing.

Yes, STEP as well as A levels is going to make the next 5 months very busy for our youngsters.

Is he doing 4 A levels?

But at least if they can manage that, they should be able to thrive at Cambridge.

Yes, he’s doing 4 A levels. I asked him to consider dropping one at the end of his first year and concentrate on the other 3 but he was having none of it. He’s on track for 4 A stars so I don’t really have an argument for that anymore.

All the momentum they build doing 4 A levels and STEP will hopefully give them a good start for even more hard work at Cambridge.

I feel like I’ve got lots of learning to do too. Neither my nor DH families have had anyone go to university. I was the first in my family to go but that was as a mature student at a local uni while raising DS. I have no clue about the normal student experience and I gather Cambridge is a whole other world of traditions. Google is going to be my friend for the next few months 😂
