A level results day 2024

How’s everyone else feeling about results day? I’ve got one at uni already and 2nd dd hoping to go to Kent in September. She seems ok about it at the moment although think that will change as it gets closer. Me I’m so keeping my fingers crossed she gets what she wants, I know there will always be other options but she loved the open day. Going to struggle with this one going though as it has been a real journey to get to where she is.

This is painful...

DD got in at 3.30am after going night clubbing and has now gone out with a friend to eat cake. She's doing very well at distracting herself but has nothing planned for this evening...

Dreading the morning

I've just looked at my dds course and they've reduced the ucas points.
As she's done btecs she's pretty much guaranteed to be over in ucas points now.

I'm assuming unless she mis heard her teacher that tmrw is now yes for her firm choice

socks1107 · 14/08/2024 17:20

I mean as she's done btecs we pretty much bar one know her grades.

Gotta say I love her methods of distraction! 😂

So dd has spent the last hour sorting out her clearing options, bless her. I'm hoping, obviously, it won't come to that but she's feeling terribly anxious. Must say I'm impressed that she's being so together!

loupiots · 14/08/2024 21:23

My DS is with his gf tonight, coming home late. He's very worried and alternates between snappiness and being unusually quiet but he's trying to brush it off. I'm chewing my nails off with anxiety but also trying to keep a cool head for him and not let him see my own worry.

He has auditory processing disorder, along with ADD and has worked really hard but it still might not be enough to get him onto the course that he has his heart set on. There are added sporting factors for him at play as well. I don't even know if it's worth looking at clearing as there are only a handful of unis that he can apply to and he's just not academic enough for half of them. The offers he has are tied to his sporting ability tbh.

Oh, I wish we knew, one way or the other! I'll be supportive and proud of him no matter what but he'll be so very disappointed if the worst comes to the worst.

Sniffywhippymum · 14/08/2024 21:30

Good Luck for tomorrow everyone! Hope you all manage to get a decent night sleep and not be awake all night worrying. My DD seems to be handling this much better than I am. She seems fairly calm. 😂

radiator2 · 14/08/2024 21:43

Got a long night ahead. Just hope all the hard work pays off. Wishing everyone the best of luck!

OlympicGoldfish · 14/08/2024 21:45

Thank you to PP who mentioned searching for Clearing at Uni. We looked up at DD’s chosen Uni and there seem to be quite a few for BBB, so I think she should be fine even if she somehow misses the A in her main subject. I’ll sleep easier (I hope!).

Good luck all and happy birthday to the DS whose birthday is tomorrow.

tisallabitofafaff · 14/08/2024 21:58

Good luck everyone. We spent the day at the zoo which was an excellent distraction. Looked through clearing again tonight and it does feel like there are options. Doubt there will be much sleep tonight. I have found this thread really helpful. Thank you.

stoneysongs · 14/08/2024 22:20

@loupiots
It might be worth a quick look as some courses do have significantly reduced grades - DD's insurance is in clearing three grades below her offer. I was looking for biology and good RG unis like York have it available at BBC, I think that's probably down from a standard offer of AAA or AAB.

Tulipvase · 14/08/2024 22:24

I’ve resorted to Prosecco to aid sleep……

loupiots · 14/08/2024 22:40

@stoneysongs thanks, I've been looking at his course and one is already in clearing at his preferred uni, and one isn't. I will definitely check out a few of the others to see if a possibility.

Good luck to everyone - fingers crossed all those applying get the grades or the clearing options they need!

O2HaveALittleHouse · 14/08/2024 22:56

My DC has been in bed an hour already 😊 - big night out tomorrow either way!

I’m relaxed - it’s done and dusted anyhow so no point stressing. Good luck to all.

CrikeyDozes · 14/08/2024 23:18

Just found this thread as I toss and turn and face a long and anxious night. I just hate this system so much. Good luck to everyone for tomorrow.

MyOtherProfile · 14/08/2024 23:20

DS is at his mate's house playing Xbox. I'm not sure they're planning to go to sleep!

Monr0e · 14/08/2024 23:27

Thank you @OlympicGoldfish

DS seems completely unbothered. I told him I'd wake him at 8 to check online and he said he'd rather have a lie in on his birthday 😕 ( I will be waking him, in case he needs to start calling uni's if he's in clearing, but mainly because my nerves won't be able to take waiting any longer)

Good luck to everyone for tomorrow 🤞

I've resorted to wine and a mindless film to keep me distracted.

VeryInteresting12 · 14/08/2024 23:44

We are waiting for btec results but very weirdly, my child’s conditional offer became an unconditional one a couple of weeks ago.
theyve accepted and have enrolled in the course, so it seems strange to be thinking about the results tomorrow when they are already in.
not sure how that happened and what’s going on.
i suppose its because all of the btec was coursework…
hs this happened to anyone else?

MizZan · 14/08/2024 23:54

I have a question if anyone's awake and knows. If DC gets an offer but wants to see what else is available through clearing (say for example if offer is for their insurance but they want to try for somewhere else they'd prefer that's in clearing), can they call around to other unis without declining the offer they have? Or do they have to decline the offer in UCAS first, and then start calling unis (which seems high risk). And then say they do speak to another uni and that uni says yes we have a place for you - what's the process - does the uni have to send them something in writing to confirm this?

Yes they can ring around and get other options before declining offers already in ucas. There is info on the ucas website re this. My DD did this last year

O2HaveALittleHouse · 15/08/2024 06:32

Checking in. Putting on the coffee 🙂

groundhogday2day · 15/08/2024 06:38

Sitting here with a hot vimto and doing some crochet squares for a bed spread for DD at uni... not long now.

OlympicGoldfish · 15/08/2024 06:41

I took the day off work and I’m now up earlier than usual, with a headache. I don’t remember being like this with DS.

🤞🤞🤞🤞

Tortiemiaw · 15/08/2024 06:42

Eyes shot open at 5.57 so I crept into the spare room with coffee while I wait. House otherwise deathly silent!

daffodilandtulip · 15/08/2024 06:42

DD has an offer on an integrated masters of AAA, but the bachelors is in clearing for AAB. Whilst she was talking rationally about this being an obvious option before, I'm not sure she'll be so rational today! I feel so emotional.
