I've asked her to double check clearing to be absolutely sure that she's not giving up on things. Thx all.

My DS confidence has been gradually eroding as the weeks have gone . He is currently looking a bit of a state,
which has got me very worried!

I’ve reassured him and said it doesn’t matter what the results are tomorrow- he has already achieved so much. If it isn’t meant to be then he can go into clearing for something else or try again next year.

Good luck to everyone’s dc. I hope they all get the result they are hoping for.

@Waferbiscuit Newcastle took AAB for kids last year ( ie just missed the grades) It was on last years chat on results day. I dont think they went into clearing.

i’m not sure what this works out for for IB

Bangor is also in clearing — its a new school- they may roll the dice and accept with less.

Leeds just started ucat this year, again they might roll the dice with a high ucat

What sort of Ucat score did she get - it might sway things.

In short, if you and dc and a n other can ring all 3 unis at 0800 at the same time plead your case, it may well just work.

Might be worth preparing tonight , ucas number, clearing number and the uni contact details ready to hit the phones.

My dd applied for med last year with bio, psych and a 3rd A level. Not having chem hasnt held her back at all.

@Thefatbutteredpig Thx so much. DD's BMAT score was pretty good - see image - and UCAT was 2300 (grim - she panicked!)

it is indeed turning out to be a strange year, I think.
tejected from Leeds, which is now in clearing, accepted by Bristol which was his bottom choice and grudgingly firmed, mainly because of the UCAT requirement, rather than a love of the med school.
there’s got to be a more predictable way of organising this, surely!

do we think N’castle and Leeds just under offered? Or has there been a collapse in attained grades?

My DS was keen on Newcastle, but didn’t apply as was worried he was borderline re UCAT. This year really does seem to be peculiar. Genuine drop in applications? Everyone playing it overly ‘safe’?

I agree with the sentiment that it’s a horrible system.

what does it actually mean schools like Leeds and Newcastle in clearing? Does it mean that the applicants with v high UCAT scores have missed their grades so how does that play out for everyone else? I am so confused

Go into school. Ask every teacher to use their phone to call clearing number(s). We often have 20+ phones trying to get through. Places will go quickly.

@SuperSue77 it's a good day. Everyone in which amazed me (thought a few would miss grades). Common room is a mess of tears. I'm on 3rd coffee.
