Anyone waiting for a Durham offer?

DS has applied for a STEM at Durham. Heard nothing back yet. So thought I’d start a thread so we can share news of offers coming though?
Anyone have any experience as to when offers for STEM are normally made?. The thought of waiting until April seems too much!

Thanks @StElwicks.

It’s just the being in limbo that’s frustrating isn’t it @mondaytosunday? DD just wants to be in a position to decide her firm and insurance.

I hope your DD has a whale of a time in Lisbon. Sounds like she’s started out right!

Jaxx · 05/02/2024 23:57

Btilliant news @StElwicks !

I am unfortunately firmly in the parent of a humanity student waiting for Durham decision club. He applied with 3 A star predictions in October for Ancient, Medieval and Modern history. Thanks to someone’s whatdotheyknow request I know that 10 out of 30 home students last year with the same grade profile were not made offers which is concerning. Hopefully at least some of those 10 withdrew as they had better offers and/or got fed up of waiting!

He’a going to Durham on Friday on an informal visit. The weather is forecast as cold with showers, so this may soften the blow if he is rejected. Exeter open day is booked for March as it was the only option where he could see both classics and history department.

SurvivingTheWeek · 07/02/2024 17:40

We’re also waiting for a Durham decision - 2 A stars & 2 As prediction - for Liberal Arts. We expected it to take a while, so any news before March will be a bonus.

DD just got an offer for PPE. Adding to this thread because I have found it interesting checking in on offer updates. Also because I don't really have anyone else to tell and I want to!

Congrats to your DD @OurspoonscamefromWoolworths ! Is it her favourite

Thank you. Yes it is her favourite so it's a huge relief. Of course, she has to get the grades but that's a worry for another day.

What great news! Massive congratulations to your dd. I get how you feel when the offer comes in. Relief and happiness! Share away!

legobrickseverywhere · 10/02/2024 23:54

Where else has your dd applied? We are still waiting to hear from a few. But Durham is prob DS first choice too. Congrats again!

OurspoonscamefromWoolworths · 11/02/2024 08:38

Thanks again legobrickseverywhere it is a relief. She has applied to Newcastle, Birmingham, Bath and Essex. Not heard from any others yet. How is your DS doing?

DS is waiting for Edinburgh, St Andrews and Warwick still. Prob another month or so before we hear. But he is delighted with his Durham offer and unless St Andrews make an offer, I reckon he will go to Durham. He loved the open day and is prob more suited to a smaller city too.
Nice that they can focus on exams now, without the stress of waiting! Hope your Dd feels good this morning! Congrats again.

OurspoonscamefromWoolworths · 11/02/2024 15:15

Hoping for a positive outcome for him. I do think it will ignite DD's motivation . Best of luck.

Jaxx · 11/02/2024 15:46

@OurspoonscamefromWoolworths many congratulations for your daughter. First offer for first choice must be such a relief!

Has she had invitations to offer days yet? I am curious if the one this week is full or not.

Still waiting for a decision here, but my son is definitely really keen to go after his informal visit yesterday even though it was cold, windy and raining! He got a personal tour of his preferred college including room options (Stevo so should be no problems getting it), met with a disability advisor in the Palatine centre before having a wander round the Bailey and popping into the Cathedral. Only drama came when the bus from the cathedral to the station went awol. In the time he waited 2 should have come, but nothing. It didn’t take that long to walk but it was raining quite heavily by this stage.

OurspoonscamefromWoolworths · 11/02/2024 17:55

@Jaxx she hasn't received an invitation to open days so I don't have any information. Did your son's come with the offer? Glad he enjoyed his visit. There are a lot of hills!

legobrickseverywhere · 11/02/2024 18:03

The offer holder day next week is full. We’re booked onto the next one in March.
i think if you have an offer you can just book onto them. I think there is one in April too.

OurspoonscamefromWoolworths · 12/02/2024 17:09

DD got an email with details today. I think we will be doing the April one too.

ruralsticks · 12/02/2024 17:57

Son received an offer for Physics last week. Daughter, who is in 2nd year, got hers about now. I remember February was busy for Durham offers, although some subjects seemed to hold on. Hope it all works out for the young people!

Rollergirl11 · 12/02/2024 18:49

@ruralsticks it’s funny, I feel like it’s been the opposite so far and that everything seems to have slowed down to a snail’s pace since the UCAS equal consideration deadline!

KittyMcKitty · 12/02/2024 19:39

For those going to offer holders days I would really recommend going to one during term time if possible (Easter hols are 16/3 until 21/4). We went to one during the Easter hols last year and whilst it was great Durham was so quite and didn’t have the busy buzzy feel to it that it has when the students are there.

JobsLot · 13/02/2024 20:13

Ds is waiting for Theology.
