Anyone waiting for a Durham offer?

DS has applied for a STEM at Durham. Heard nothing back yet. So thought I’d start a thread so we can share news of offers coming though?
Anyone have any experience as to when offers for STEM are normally made?. The thought of waiting until April seems too much!

MerchSwyddEfrog, Where else has your DC applied to?
DC keener on Bath but now that she has an offer from Durham will still go to the offer day.

ColdButSunny · 26/02/2024 13:57

@MerchSwyddEfrog my DS was an October applicant for natural sciences and only got an offer very recently (a week ago).

Calmmumnot · 26/02/2024 14:27

Waiting on International Relations, I know some offers have gone out but not heard anything this end

shoofly · 26/02/2024 14:45

Still waiting to hear for Physics. Would be good to hear either way.

MerchSwyddEfrog · 26/02/2024 17:03

@Wronginformation my ds has offers for Bath and Leeds. We are waiting for UCL and Durham. Got offer holder days for Bath and Leeds next week. Just wish the others would hurry up.

MerchSwyddEfrog · 26/02/2024 17:06

@ColdButSunny what subjects in Natural Sciences is you ds hoping to study? My ds wants to study biology and chemistry.

legosnowqueen · 26/02/2024 19:23

DS has just got his Durham offer...I am dancing round the kitchen!! AAB for Business....so happy...

Crochetpenguin · 26/02/2024 19:28

Dd has her offer A*AA for Natural sciences. Still keen on Warwick as a lot closer to us plus lower offer for Maths and Physics.

OurspoonscamefromWoolworths · 26/02/2024 19:51

What a relief @legosnowqueen ! Great news for DS. Enjoy the dance!

Jaxx · 26/02/2024 20:06

Brilliant news @legosnowqueen - I am so happy your wait is over.

Congratulations @Crochetpenguin it is always good to have options no matter what you end up picking.

For those still waiting - hang on in there. Offers will still be coming out for some time.

ColdButSunny · 26/02/2024 20:10

Good news @legosnowqueen. @MerchSwyddEfrog maths and physics.

Rollergirl11 · 26/02/2024 20:27

Ahhh congrats @legosnowqueen, i’m so happy for you and your DS!!! 🎉🎊🏆 Will you be going to an offer holder day?

I could be wrong but it does seem like Durham have pulled their finger out slightly on the offer front!

legosnowqueen · 26/02/2024 21:21

Thanks all, I had hardly dared hope...@Rollergirl11 definitely going to an offer holder day, mainly to look at accommodation as we only saw a couple of colleges at the open day.

Now he only has to get the grades...which are well in reach based on June mocks but not on the recent set.

Good luck to those still waiting to hear, it really is torture!

JobsLot · 26/02/2024 21:31

Ds is still waiting.

MerchSwyddEfrog · 27/02/2024 20:01

My ds got an update on UCAS this evening and he has had an offer from Durham! I’m so pleased for him. He hasn’t had an email yet from Durham.

Congratulations to everyone who’s had offers and fingers crossed for everyone who is still waiting.

legosnowqueen · 27/02/2024 21:21

@MerchSwyddEfrog congratulations, that's great news!

Headingto18 · 27/02/2024 21:25

Im sure I saw it somewhere on one of these Durham threads but can't find it now - any recommendations for hotels for offer days? I see there's room at one of the colleges and wondering if I should grab that but no parking. How long is the day? Should I book two nights?

We’re 40 minutes (in a good run) on a train line out of Paddington so it’s into Paddington and then tube to Kings X to give a fee for our journey.

It is waaaaaay easier (and quicker) to train then drive.

If you’re going on the train I would stay at Chads or one of the other colleges - it’s not far from the station and you’re on the Bailey for a good look around.

When we moved dd in we stayed in the Premier Inn by the passport office - they give you a certain amount of free parking and you’re 5 mins walk from the city centre. We’ve also stayed in the Premier Inn up by Gilesgate which has free parking there and then parked in Bishops Mill in town.

I would suggest going up the night before so that you can start college visits at 9 ish on offer day - we did this and then left after the subject talk (last year it was in the TLC) and got a cab straight to the station which all worked well.

If you’re going up the night before we (and many others) tend to eat at Spags which is a student fave, not too expensive and you don’t need to book! We’ve also had very nice breakfast at Flat White although that is more £££.

mondaytosunday · 02/03/2024 12:18

Thanks @KittyMcKitty I've booked St Chads. What's the walk up the hill like from the town centre (to the Bailey not the hill colleges)? I've only gone and reinjured my knee (aggravated an old skating mishap). I found the walk up to Exeter campus from the station arduous with my knee (and 34 degree heat).

KittyMcKitty · 02/03/2024 12:37

@mondaytosunday it depends what you categorise as the town centre - from the Market Square it’s about 5 mins walk to Chads - it’s a reasonable hill for a little bit but not too bad (similar distance from Prince Bishops car park) - from the station maybe 15 mins.

it’s a flat walk essentially from Chads over Kingsgate Bridge to the Students Union - the path to the bridge is right next to Chads Dining Hall. Elvet Riverside (where your daughters lectures will be) is basically next door to the SU to the left.

If you turn left out of Chads and walk down past Cuths to Prebends Bridge then you can get down to the river and that’s a lovely walk (in both directions).

Turn right over Kingsgate Bridge and it’s maybe 15 mins up a reasonable hill to the Science Site where the library and Teaching and Learning Centre are. Dd has only been to the Science site in welcome week - Chads has 8 libraries / study spaces so she prefers to study there. Mary’s is behind the T&LC so about a 5 mins walk. I’m afraid we didn’t visit any of the Hill Colleges but I think Grey and Trevs are the next closest after Mary’s.

There is a wide selection of places to eat on the stretch between Chads and Market Square. My dd and her friends like La Spagetteria (I’ve spelt that wrong I’m sure) - Spags and also Leboneat which is almost next door to Durham Student Theatre - pretty much opposite Hatfields entrance.

Today is Chads day (started at 7am) so there will be various pictures I’m sure on the numerous Chads Instagram accounts - I think Chads Bar has posted some.
