Deadline for written work submission was only on Monday just gone - so would be surprised to hear from a subject requiring this so soon?

Does anyone know if rejection letters go out before interview invites?

There's no uniformity either at Oxford or Cambridge. It varies by college or in some cases subject.

The college my DS applied to had a deadline of Mon 4th Nov for submission of written work whereas for Trinity it was https://www.trin.cam.ac.uk/undergraduate/admissions-faqs/key-dates/ 2nd Nov....so looks like C colleges all running to their own individual schedule.

The ones so far are humanities, classics etc.

Thanks. This might explain why DS was very down on Monday and wouldn’t talk about it. I did wonder whether someone from his year had been emailed about an interview. Oh well, it is what it is.

ucasdone · 07/11/2024 09:52

@Coldilocks - I don't think he should read anything into it at all- it was only yesterday the friends got invited and I haven't a clue what college etc they're going for. Lots of others at school who haven't heard anything and don't expect for a while. I'm sure the invites will trickle in very slowly depending on many factors.

I know it's not strictly Oxbridge but thought some of your kids may have applied to Durham or Lancaster also, like mine. Just wondering if any have had offers yet? We were told it'll be late on next year but DS has seen some have had offers on Reddit and is beginning to worry.

DD got an offer from Lancaster yesterday, or to be precise two as she was also offered lower grades if she made them her firm choice. Modern Languages if that helps.

periodiclabel · 07/11/2024 11:07

That's great @GrimbutGerbil , congrats!

I think you're mistaken periodiclabel. Whichever poster you're thinking of it isn't me. So I'd prefer you didn't say it on repeat. Cheers. Things on these threads shouldn't be personal and I would certainly take a comparison to Liz Truss as a personal attack :)

Thank you, he's applied for a stem Subject so hopefully he'll hear soon. Well done to your dd and fingers crossed for Oxbridge too.

I will ask for that comparison to be removed and will apologise if you're not the poster with eight children who all went to Oxford but turn out to be someone else.

Bluearrivabus · 07/11/2024 13:26

Dd has applied to Durham and heard nothing - anyone else? I think she’d like an offer from them asap as that’s her choice if Oxbridge doesn’t work out.

For most people dont expect to hear from Durham until very late in the year. Mine had an offer in April - their friend in May (exams had already started and they had been rejected by O ..... so it was a looooong wait from Jan). Other offenders seem to be LSE, Edi, St A?

ThatllBeTheDay · 07/11/2024 13:33

I'm not offended periodictable - hence the smiley. I also don't require an apology. I have relatively broad shoulders. But I would have thought as a general point that messaging other posters is a bit over the top/ girls' school type of stuff. As I say, these are HE threads and shouldn't get personal. The best way to deal with any aggressive posting is to not be aggressive or offensive back.

Obviously if something is said which is clearly wrong, it may well be helpful to current applicants to pick up on it. Certainly I seem to have garnered a number of 'thanks', so my correction was of some use to some posters. I'm not clear that that's 'not backing down'. Obviously a difference of subjective opinion is quite another thing and then that's a place where people can perfectly reasonably differ and should allow one another to do so. I'm not sure that censorship is overly helpful but each to their own.

Out of interest, what subject is your DC applying for?

Cubic · 07/11/2024 13:35

We were told Durham would be late too, which is why ds was concerned. Like your daughter Durham is my sons choice after Oxford so it'd be great to have that in the bag.

You’re so funny! I’m afraid you don’t know why I wanted to message the other poster so it is not up to you – as usual – to decide what is “girls school” or not.

I’d rather not say what my DC is applying for, I never have on previous threads and I never will.

Glad to know that you are the person I was thinking of anyway, recognisable as causing upset every year, whether on purpose or not.

Huge everyone else for this exchange, I am merely replying to someone who doesn’t believe in DMs as a way of keeping issues off the main board.

Let’s now concentrate on the important stuff and hope we can all handhold through the next few rollercoaster weeks

ThatllBeTheDay · 07/11/2024 14:17

periodiclabel you've no idea who I am so please let this go. It's disturbing to fix on other posters and distracts from the thread. You said in terms in the deleted post why you attempted to DM, hence my response. If you have a problem with any post that I've written then fine, that's entirely legit; if you want to make personal comments for whatever reason then that really isn't ok, especially when you're wide of the mark.

  1. please can posters say nothing, be supportive or, if really necessary, politely give opposing views. Oxbridge entry is stressful enough without having bickering on the board. This should be a place of support.
  2. two people are applying from my family to Cambridge and both colleges have published different dates for interviews, available online.
  3. has anyone's child heard from Edinburgh or Glasgow yet?
ThatllBeTheDay · 07/11/2024 14:23

please can posters... be supportive or, if really necessary, politely give opposing views

Seconded. And also refrain from anything personal even if they reckon another poster is a dick. It's entirely possible.

My DC has had an Edinburgh offer but they are grades in hand. Their Ediburgh offer last year was very late as was St A.

No interview notification yet from Oxford obvs.

I just looked on the student room and there have been one or two Cambridge interview offers (kings)

Where these offers with grades in hand or predicted? Humanities or science?
thanks! (My daughter and my niece are both applying for humanities)
