New thread as Part 2 about to fill.

OP posts:

I've heard of some ppl in RUK getting offers from St Andrews already - for smaller, more nich courses on the whole. Usually they arrive very late so huge relief! Congrats everyone

lullubell · 16/11/2023 17:36

@Wolfofallstreets @SnoopDogisamenace we are RUK but DD is MFL applicant so smaller numbers than other courses I assume!

stoneysongs · 16/11/2023 17:44

Well done on the St Andrews offer @lullubell, amazing to have that one in the bag so early. And @spacechimp79 on the HSPS interview, an achievement in itself in such a competitive subject 🥳

And @Newgirls, exciting and nerve wracking to see the Oxford interviews start to come 😬
Has anyone heard from Oxford in a subject with an entrance test? I think those are usually a bit later?

Commiserations @Angharad01 that's really tough with such good grades. There was obviously nothing your DS could do, the competition must just be ridiculous. But Warwick is amazing for maths, all the post uni opportunities will be the same, and it's a great place to study too. Small consolation, I know.

PocketSand · 16/11/2023 18:36

DS2 has applied to Cambridge and sat ENGAA. I believe they are all still waiting.

ladsmum · 16/11/2023 18:53

Well done to all those DCs with interviews and @Angharad01 so sorry to hear about the redirection, difficult not to feel a sense of injustice.

@PocketSand DS3 sat the NSAA and we are still waiting - had hoped that things may have moved a bit quicker this year as I think assessments were earlier than last year.
I am driving him mad asking him to check his emails each day. He is sitting mocks this week and GF split up with him on Saturday so maybe he prefers to be blissfully ignorant for a bit longer.
Imperial have sent an email requesting info on his disability and implied interviews would be January. Hoping this is a good sign, although I may have to sell a kidney to pay for his accommodation!

BiancaBlank · 16/11/2023 18:54

@PettsWoodParadise that just sounds like a different universe from DD1, also nearing the end of her first term at C. Apart from orchestra once a week, she seems to do literally nothing other than work, and even so half her essays are late. She likes the course but I was hoping she would also have time to join clubs and go to bops or the bar, or even just hang out in her mates’ rooms chatting like I used to do when I was a student!

DD3 has applied for Oxford and is waiting to hear about interviews but I am starting to have misgivings about it all. Part of me would be relieved if it all came to nothing, as she gets even stressier than DD1

SwottyDaisy · 16/11/2023 19:16

@ladsmum 🤣 we have one DS 2nd year at Imperial and DS2 hoping Oxford or Imperial. I am hoping for Oxford because it will be so much less expensive.

The trouble with Imperial is it is hard for them to find time for a job.

Fingers crossed for Oxford.

catmomof3 · 16/11/2023 19:25

My daughter just got an offer from KCL and she is so relieved as if she doesn't get into Oxford she now has either her firm or insurance as that depends on UCL.

PettsWoodParadise · 16/11/2023 19:27

Good luck to your DD3 @BiancaBlank . DD got used to being ultra organised and having a full schedule due to her part-time job, hobbies and studying but then she does also have one of the less intense courses, doing an arts subject. Fridays I think is her busiest lecture day with four hours, but even that is easing off with less now the intro lectures have finished.

She has a friend doing medicine in a college on the other side of the road and she has had very little time for anything beyond study and rehearsals for a divali dance celebration.

Saying that DD missed a callback for the university challenge team and a talk about a career in a particular industry as she was busy with the ADC - so it is often about picking what is most important to you and everyone is different. DD is one of seven doing her course in her college and only two of them go to most of the lectures, I was quite surprised. Some have access to online versions due to anxiety or other MH requirements, others just made a choice only to go to supervisions. Your DD1 is therefore not alone, if anything my DD is the odd one out!

O2HaveALittleHouse · 16/11/2023 20:00

I am stunned @Angharad01

What are they basing such decisions? It’s well know they don’t read PS, he’s from a state school, top grades.. Possible mistake?

JulesJules · 16/11/2023 20:17

Best of luck to all those waiting to hear about interviews. When D1 applied to Oxford (History joint) she heard on 28th Nov I think, and had to be there 10 -14th for interviews. This was for 2020 - she has just graduated.

HoneyMobster · 16/11/2023 20:33

@O2HaveALittleHouse - I don't think @Angharad01 has her DS' MAT result yet? It will almost certainly be that if his predicteds and achieved grades are high. Unlikely to be a mistake I think.

HoneyMobster · 16/11/2023 20:35

It's really tough out there. DD took BMAT and fortunately it played to her strengths. A good performance in the admissions tests is key with so many highly qualified candidates applying.

O2HaveALittleHouse · 16/11/2023 21:23

oh I see. DC only did the MAT last week so I assumed that the results weren’t available yet but thinking about it more, some will have not done the resit.

Congrats to her!! Which MFL course specifically- if you don't mind me asking! Only asking as my DD has also applied to St A's and Oxford for MFL and is anxiously waiting!!

lullubell · 16/11/2023 21:40

@mummylife123 Spanish and beginner German. Hoping everyone hears soon from second choices

Ooh that's interesting. My DD has applied for just Spanish- hoping that means they're starting to process the Spanish applications now 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

lullubell · 16/11/2023 21:45

@mummylife123 fingers crossed for her! Good to virtually meet the parent of another linguist!

Pleasealexa · 16/11/2023 22:21

@catmomof3 Well done to your dd for KCL offer, that's amazing.

Revengeofthepangolins · 16/11/2023 22:38

@catmomof3 do I remember correctly that your DC is English? Congrats to them on Kings

Yes she is ☺️

MirandaWest · 16/11/2023 23:12

DD is waiting to hear from Oxford for History and Spanish. I think every time she checks her emails she wonders if she’s about to get an email from them…

Revengeofthepangolins · 17/11/2023 06:18

@catmomof3 DS2 is also waiting on UCL english. The website says they interview from November to March, so I had been expecting some people to hear by now, but I haven't spotted any news on the various chats, which seems surprising.

Headingto18 · 17/11/2023 09:20

@catmomof3 KCL offer for DD too which she is v happy about
