They have until May to make offers.

You probably need to know that the strikes may delay some from unis that aren't notoriously late too. So please don't worry. If you aren't rejected you may still get offers

@HairinaBeaHive - My DS submitted his form in the first week of December. He received his first offer 2 days later (from his insurance) but hasn't had any more.

The remaining ones are well known (2 are notorious) for being slow so just waiting patiently. It is hard though when some of his friends have 3,4,5 offers, albeit from other unis.

She's applied for joint honours degrees. Don't know if that makes a difference.

dd only got her first offer yesterday. That was for her insurance choice, which is actually her second favourite of all the unis she applied to, it’ll just take slightly lower grades. So she’s really pleased about that.

her subject is an over subscribed one which interviews everyone, so knew it would take a while.

Still nothing.

DD is predicted grades to meet or surpass those asked for.

The school wouldn't submit applications until after Xmas as they were waiting for marks from mocks.

They assured pupils the unis would give equal consideration...

My DGS was saying the same at this time last year but had an offer and an invitation to an offer holders day.

I never get this as some applicants get offers in October. So what happens if a raft of stellar applicants appear in January? There must be fewer slots for them. Hopefully school doesn’t wait for mocks results for Oxbridge candidates.

Of course not. Same with medicine and dental applicants. Their deadline is earlier.

And yes, the application being for joint honours may well delay things, assuming that both (or even just one of the two) departments concerned actually scrutinise the whole application rather than just the predicted grades / A level subjects. e.g. all three of ours applied to Warwick (generally on the list of slow responders) around late November, for Biochemistry / Polutics, International Studies and French / History of Art respectively - the first and third had heard by Christmas, the middle one not until not far off the deadline for response to on time applications.

(Obviously could have been other reasons such as Pol/IR and / or MFL just being particularly slow, or way more popular- definitely more than History of Art, but possibly not so much more than Biochemistry? - etc).

DD is really wobbling. 2 offers so far and decided she wants neither. Holding out for a couple who notoriously respond slowly. She has top grades but universities seem to be focussing on contextual applicants. Need to think of a plan b…

I was at a y13 uni evening last night and out of around 150 girls 30 had all their offers so that's lots of unis and courses that haven't offered yet.
It's nerve racking but I'm sure all will be well.
Dd is still waiting for law at Leeds.

@IheartNiles this is my worry, that priority is given to contextual students and international students (££££££) and there are very few places left for everyone else.

They should just increase the number of places but of course that would be too sensible.

@Amboseli , @IheartNiles I understand how you're feeling (DS in a similar position) - but I do think it's still far too early to be considering plan B etc.

UCAS only closed applications last week so universities will only really be starting to go through their real candidate evaluation process now.

Yes, lots of posts on MN and TSR about people getting offers, but its low numbers really when distributed across universities and courses. And the user profile of these sites is typically those predominantly with top predictions.

This site - www.savethestudent.org/freshers/which-universities-are-easiest-to-get-into.html is worth a look regarding applicant Vs offer rates for universities. Might be reassuring depending upon where your DC has applied

This is quite normal and nothing to be worried about - some universities and departments take longer to respond than others and it depends what the student has applied for. Some will not respond until March/April which is anxiety inducing but not unusual. Please try not to worry too much!

@bguthb90 thanks for posting that link. It is interesting to see that some unis which are not necessarily at the top of the league tables are still fairly hard to get into.

It varies enormously depending on which course you're applying for although the usual suspects are at the top of every league table!

I shouldn't really be on this thread as DS won't be putting his application in until October 2023 as he's applying for 2024 entry (in L6 at the moment) but we're starting to research unis and it looks like it's very unlikely he'll get into his top choices which both have around 90% rejection rate for his course. :(
