2023 uni applications for those pursuing art and creative routes

The other thread discussing Uni applications for RG and academic routes isn't so relevant for DS. He's considering Art Foundation year or direct entry to uni for fashion design.

Anyone care to join a thread on similar creative paths. (Not just fashion!)

He's looking at art foundation at Kingston, Central St Martin's, UCA,

For Fashion BA looking at Central St Martins, London College of Fashion, Manchester Met, Nottingham Trent, Liverpool John Moores, Leeds Beckett.

Most seem to accept without art foundation but he would need one to Central St Martin's so if he wants to try for that will need foundation.

Lots of open days coming up and hopefully school will give him some more advice next week. No start on his PS yet!!

DS3 had been rejected by Edinburgh for Fashion, still waiting to hear about textiles.
He isn't dwelling on it, the boy is a natural optimist ( part of the problem actually if he'd worried more he might have worked just a little bit harder on his 'folio!) and put a safer choice or two on his UCAS form.

DD has four modules this year (Observational Drawing, Illustrating, Digital & Animation, and Printmaking). For the last of these, they are now making books (hand printing and hand binding) to learn about physical production. I just thought that was cool and wanted to share with other folk interested in crafts!

DC got an offer from AUB for Foundation Diploma yesterday. Also a text from Kingston saying they will review the portfolio after 1 April, which seems odd as they are not international student. We are really pleased with AUB, though, and I think it is the first choice for my dc.

Philandbill · 21/03/2023 12:57

Congratulations to DC @QGMum , good news. We booked DD's university accommodation this weekend, it's all starting to feel a bit real!

OneFrenchEgg · 21/03/2023 17:12

Dc has been applying for 2024 which feels a little more manageable. The idea of them disappearing in a few months would be quite weird.

PhotoDad · 21/03/2023 18:34

Congratulations to those with offers!

luluposs · 21/03/2023 20:40

@QGMum which course at Kingston? That is late, mind you they took ages with my daughter's too....bit of a time crunch as they open their accommodation so early, on 17th April (only for firmed) so now pressure is on to choose!

Wbeezer · 21/03/2023 23:28

DS still waiting for news on the of his applications, he had two interviews from Glasgow last week so should hear from them in the next week or so

dishpatchnow · 22/03/2023 20:07

Has anyone heard from UAL re: fine art? DD has had interviews with Chelsea and camberwell (several weeks ago) but heard nothing since

whoknewit · 22/03/2023 21:02

DD has 4 offers for Textiles Design BA - UAL Chelsea, University of Southampton (Winchester School of Art), UCA Epsom and Bath Spa. I think it will between UAL Chelsea (in which case she can commute from home quite easily) and Winchester (live on campus). Does anyone have a view about either UAL or Winchester?

Wbeezer · 22/03/2023 21:04

It's horrible waiting, I'm getting increasingly pessimistic

TJworried · 22/03/2023 21:19

DD got unconditional offer from Dundee today.

Soma · 22/03/2023 22:17

Is anyone's DC going to UCA Canterbury or Falmouth?

Pourmeanotherwine · 23/03/2023 07:13

DD is still waiting to hear from Brighton, anyone else? She's got offers from the other 4.

OneFrenchEgg · 23/03/2023 07:47

UCA Farnham - Canterbury didn't have the same courses

Acinonyx2 · 23/03/2023 09:46

DD has UCA Farnham second choice - but we all really liked it.

OneFrenchEgg · 23/03/2023 10:59

They really liked it after seeing again on offer holders day

Soma · 23/03/2023 13:36

Thanks @OneFrenchEgg , not sure if UCA Canterbury will be DC's insurance. I have heard good things about UCA Farnham, but we were not sure about what it would be like as a student in Farnham. Still have three holders days to attend

Yes DS still waiting to hear from Brighton. So slow
Nothing from UCL either. Even a rejection would put an end to the waiting....

Wbeezer · 23/03/2023 15:56

DS3 got an unconditional from Edinburgh today for Textiles, first choice college but second choice course, which gives him a dilemma but all will be resolved when he gets his remaining UCAS results through, I think he'll accept if he doesn't get on the fashion course at Glasgow.

dishpatchnow · 26/03/2023 20:39

Offers finally in from Camberwell and Chelsea for fine art. Now it's time to start making some decisions....

PhotoDad · 26/03/2023 21:04

I was thinking about people on this thread just today! I hope that offers are rolling in for everyone. DD is in the throes of some major end-of-year projects, one per module.

mondaytosunday · 26/03/2023 21:48

Congrats to those with offers! Still waiting to hear from UAL but they sent an email along the lines of 'while waiting to hear from us here's why we are so great...' which my daughter said was not helpful! She has an interview on April 18 for another course so it really seems to be dragging out.

luluposs · 28/03/2023 18:09

@mondaytosunday UAL foundations definitely seem to take their time don't they! Weird that degree courses make offers sooner - as you know we've heard from all 5 UCAS applications, but nothing from 2 of 3 Foundation applications- incl UAL! I know at least 3 talented students who are still waiting so you're not alone, but it's def frustrating! Good luck & I really hope she's feeling better.

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 29/03/2023 12:37

DS just got a rejection from UCL..finally. via ucas
UWE still his favourite.
Waiting for Brighton.... still
