Manchester accommodation news?

DS has got his first choice - Manchester - so we’re all delighted 😀. The confirmation email says “up to 10 days” to hear about accommodation, so I know we’re not there yet but wondering why they take so long? He’s guaranteed one of his choices as he’d already firmed Manchester, but would just like to start planning. Anyone heard anything yet??

We are waiting too. Also DD’s first choice. We went to Ikea today but couldn’t buy any bedding as don’t know size of bed yet. S but frustrating!

I know! I want to crack on with buying stuff but don’t know what, how much or what size 😬

My ds has his accomodation as he applied deferred last year - the people with confirmed places were allocated mid July. A friend whose dc went last year - it was their firm choice - didn’t get accommodation allocations until September.

also last year I know that some people didn’t get any of their 5 preferences they’d expressed (I think they were allocated Victoria Park instead of Fallowfield).

I think it takes so long as randomly allocated but for eg all the Oak House flats are for 8 with 4 males on one floor and 4 females on the other so I guess that takes some organising (I’m assuming they split the others in a similar way).

Friend of Dd had just heard she's got the Manchester accommodation she wanted - she had some specific accessibility needs though so I imagine she might have been prioritised

My friend's DD has heard on Friday she has Unsworth Park. No special criteria and A level results last week.

DD's BF was there a couple of years ago - the accommodation is obviously old, but he had fun there, it was much more sociable during Covid than some of the posher ones, and he's now living with friends he made there. It wasn't his choice originally though!

@SierraSapphire thank you he knows quite a few people who’ve been in ok house in previous years and all say the same that once you’ve adjusted to the awfulness of it it’s been great and they wouldn’t have wanted to be anywhere else. Whilst it’s not in the least bit swanky like Unsworth it is £3k cheaper and v near the bus stop.

What are peoples dc going to study at Manchester— ds is doing philosophy and politics.

Dd in oak house (just confirmed) and studying history!

A friend whose dc was in oak house last year said there’s no bin in the room or chest of drawers - they all get those plastic drawers from Argos or similar.

Ds is in Beech Court.

I bloody loved being a student in Manchester - so excited for all our DC!
DS is studying economics.

It’s a great Uni in a great town - they are very fortunate young people with the opportunities they have! @AvonCallingBarksdale They’ve probably not redecorated Oak House since you were there - it’s amazing quite how many TikToks there are about it!!

@KittyMcKitty it was great fun in Oak House, but hopefully it’s had a lick of paint at least!

@GU24Mum a friends dc didn’t get allocated until September last year (and Manchester had been their firm choice) so I’m sure it’ll be fine.

Thanks - she's really excited but now worrying she'll be somewhere "dull". Never mind - sounds as though she may have to wait a bit longer to find out!

My friends dc was allocated Oak House so grotty but not dull!! Fingers crossed she doesn’t have to wait long (has she logged onto her MyManchester account just to double check).

I must admit I emailed as I was getting a bit jittery and then felt a bit of a plum as I received an email back saying that he’d just been allocated his place. All good 👍🏻
