Manchester accommodation news?

DS has got his first choice - Manchester - so we’re all delighted 😀. The confirmation email says “up to 10 days” to hear about accommodation, so I know we’re not there yet but wondering why they take so long? He’s guaranteed one of his choices as he’d already firmed Manchester, but would just like to start planning. Anyone heard anything yet??

@GU24Mum amazing - ds is oak house - does she know which building? She may have to put up with ds 😂

They can move in from 10am next Thursday 😊

@GU24Mum hurrah!! I lived in Oak House in my 4th year - Fallowfield is great. You must be relieved!!

Thanks @KittyMcKitty and @AvonCallingBarksdale - offer accepted - "we're" (frankly, it feels as though I'm going too after the past few days!) going to Maple.

I think Maple are the “delux” ones with sinks so very fancy 😂 ds is Beech - opposite the bar!

I've checked it out and our allocated room doesn't appear to be deluxe or burdened by a washbasin ..... but I'm honestly so delighted that I really don't mind at all!

KittyMcKitty · 07/09/2022 23:05

I’m so thrilled for you that it’s sorted! Maybe the washbasin are an oak house myth!

I am sure they will all have a great time in Oak House and hope these last few weeks will quickly fade to a distant memory. Oak House does seem to hold a certain place in UoM folklore and everyone seems to love it once they get over the initial shock 😊

My friend whose dc was there last year said there’s no chest of drawers or anything (and wardrobe tiny) so good idea to bring one of those stacking plastic drawer things. I’m

So glad to hear that most have got accommodation sorted. If anyone is left stuck, DD is going into halls (mature student not A levels, so sorted before results day), but she's been previously living / working in Manchester. She had a live-in job, but says house shares aren't that hard to find from her friends' experience, so that could be another possible option to look out for. Horribly stressful though :(
