Bristol accommodation - Culver House

Dd got Culver House which although described as being in the west village, with most residences in Clifton, it seems as if some are in Park St which is near the centre (and would I think be more within east village).

It seems a bit confusing. Does anyone have any experience of Culver House?

I know @NCTDN 😱. We had planned a stay overnight and had dinner with local friends planned but then plans changed with DS3 due to Monday’s bank holiday and so we need to be home Sat night. Annoying. And exhausting.

Tenpastseven · 16/09/2022 08:17

Overuse of word plan there. Whoops.

NCTDN · 16/09/2022 08:20

Where are you driving from?

Crikeyblimey · 16/09/2022 08:49

We are driving down tomorrow too (but to second year flat). I’m nervous of the ‘plan’ given I’ve had no contact with the landlord / agent and am relying on a bunch of 19 year olds to have sorted everything!
sage travels all x

Crikeyblimey · 16/09/2022 08:50

@Tenpastseven at least you have a plan 🤣

Tenpastseven · 16/09/2022 09:06

@NCTDN Yorkshire.
this is true @Crikeyblimey but as you know from the past year, it’s all subject to change with DS2 🤨

Another one with a 7 hour round trip tomorrow Grin Ds is moving into Manor hall. He's made some sort of contact with people from his course and a pub evening arranged - so much easier now than the olden days!

Tenpastseven · 16/09/2022 15:22

I was in Manor Hall a bazillion years ago @AliceNutter. I think it’s a great place to be. Good luck with your journey.

Maggiethecat · 16/09/2022 21:22

Dd moved into Culver today. The refurb is very swanky. Common area in the basement plus adjoining kitchen to serve that space, table football/pool room, cinema room - not sure where they’ll find the time to study!
Her room has new furniture, carpet, 3/4 bed - the only thing missing is the washbasin in the room that she applied for as they removed them all in the refurb.
She shares flat with 4 others and kitchen all set up with 5 wall and base cupboards.
Seems a good set up and the location is good so she’s happy.

@mumsneedwine - thanks for asking your Dd.

From the link above it says:

'This accommodation is part of the West Residential Village. Home to around 3,000 students, this is the largest residential village in terms of the area it covers. Most residences are based in Clifton, with some located near Park Street and Gloucester Road. Clifton is a popular and picturesque suburb of Bristol known for its Georgian architecture, cafe culture, and green spaces. Park Street boasts a selection of quirky shops, bars, and restaurants'

It's contradictory as it says most are in Clifton (which is West Village, though it doesn't specify exactly where) with some located near Park St - but the photo and google map seem to focus on Park St which makes me wonder if that is where most of the residences are.

I'll probably have to find out if there is an accommodation officer that I can speak with for more specifics.

I'm from Bristol and Park St is in Clifton!

@mumof1or2 - I am agree 😂

@NCTDN We have DD going to Wills Hall. Driving there tomorrow. Hope your drop off and journey back goes well. Fingers crossed they all settle quickly and have a brilliant first week - then settle in for lectures!

NCTDN · 17/09/2022 21:39

@MrsGB134 do you know which block?

Tenpastseven · 17/09/2022 21:58

DS happily deposited at Badock. Really well organised and very friendly, welcoming staff. He’s messaged to say he’s having a great time hanging out with the people from his corridor. Catering is open this weekend for those who weren’t sure.

MrsGB134 · 17/09/2022 22:34

Thanks for the update, glad he’s all settled and catering is provided this w/e. Was wondering whether they would have meals on Monday, good to know, one less thing to worry about.

@MrsGB134 do you know which block?

Have sent a PM.

AliceNutter · 18/09/2022 14:16

Thank you @Tenpastseven the journey went smoothly but was very lonnnng. The folk at manor hall were very kind and friendly and we thought the whole place and area delightful as hadn't visited before. Ds has already discovered Lidl and Wilko and sent a snap of his flat mates drinking tea this morning, so settling nicely Smile

NCTDN · 18/09/2022 16:32

I was very impressed with the organisation at Bristol. DD said the food last night was good.

Maggiethecat · 18/09/2022 16:38

@NCTDN - I was too. Staff checking people in until quite late. Gave a hand with luggage. On hand to help with queries. Tea and biscuits in the foyer.

Ah now I never got tea and biscuits!
