Support thread for aspiring medics.

We want all our DCs to succeed, whatever their school type. We share knowledge to help them to achieve their goals, celebrate success and support if things don't go well.

Offers are in for some, others on waiting lists, others doing their A levels and planning a gap year.

Best of luck everyone for great results on 18th August, we will be here to celebrate, commiserate, advise and generally support you for the last stage of the 2022 journey. 🍀

Fingers crossed for everyone else.

PritiPatelsMaker · 18/08/2022 08:37

Oh that is such fabulous news @KingscoteStaff! Make sure she gets a couple of bats as well as the big coat! Grin

speedyhedgehog · 18/08/2022 08:37

DS confirmed for Southampton. So excited for him. Fingers crossed for everyone.

PritiPatelsMaker · 18/08/2022 08:38

Vests not bats! Grin

kackle · 18/08/2022 08:43

DS into Newcastle!

coffeeandbiscuittime · 18/08/2022 08:43

She got A in physics and Bio and unfortunately a B in chem - she was predicted an A Star in tgat so huge disappointment for her.
Congrats to all those off to uni-x

PritiPatelsMaker · 18/08/2022 08:45

Well done to your DS @kackle

@coffeeandbiscuittime so, so sorry for your DD, that is a huge disappointment like you say. Has she got a plan B?

mbosnz · 18/08/2022 09:02

Offer confirmed for DD to Kings here! Don't know her grades yet though. We is having champagne! (And maybe some more sleep, given I spent the night awake and praying to the Gods of Education for Deliverance. . .)

I'm sorry to hear about your DD @coffeeandbiscuittime, these kids (and their parents have been so mucked around this year, with the goal posts shifting the way they have.

KingscoteStaff · 18/08/2022 09:07

Brilliant @kackle Fantastic @speedyhedgehog Excellent news @mbosnz

KingscoteStaff · 18/08/2022 09:09

That’s gutting @coffeeandbiscuittime - some very odd Chem results out there. What’s plan B?

PritiPatelsMaker · 18/08/2022 09:13

B in Biology here. DS is gutted.

jenthehen · 18/08/2022 09:44

A A A A here but just been rejected from the wait list at Liverpool. Looking like she'll take up the Natural Sciences at Bath offer. Such a tough year for them.

PritiPatelsMaker · 18/08/2022 09:55

Wow @jenthehen they are really good results, can't believe that she hasn't got a place Flowers

Monkey2001 · 18/08/2022 10:12

Well done to those who met their offers. Sorry to hear the results were disappointing for @PritiPatelsMaker and @coffeeandbiscuittime . If close to grade boundaries you should look at getting scripts back and see whether any are worth getting a review of marking. We got an extra 7 marks for DS1 A Level Chemistry in 2019 to take him to an A*. Are they up for re-sitting? Are you going to join us on the 2023 application road?

DS got 2xA*, A, so still hoping Newcastle might be in touch, but expecting to do Chemistry next year.

@jenthehen if she still wants to do medicine, she really should consider a gap year. DS1 had a good year and was a good break before the long 7-8 year slog of qualifying as a doctor (including F1 and F2 in that).

I assume you know that it is NOT a good idea to plan for graduate medicine - it takes longer, costs more and is way more competitive.

DS confirmed for Southampton. So excited for him. Fingers crossed for everyone.

As is DD! DD out celebrating now whilst I am chained to my desk at work. Such a relief, we were looking at plan B and Plan C options earlier this week. It’s been such a rollercoaster few years. @PritiPatelsMaker @coffeeandbiscuittime I hope it works out for your DC. @jenthehen Liverpool are crazy - those are amazing results!!

Thank you everyone for your wise words and support. I honestly don’t think DD would have made it otherwise.!!

notmedicmum · 18/08/2022 10:54

Does anyone know if medicine is in clearing anywhere this year (unlikely, I know)?

Sunderland was, but their interview places were taken. May still be some with a foundation year, but probably best to join us in the gap year crew for now.

DS is home. He is one bloody mark off getting an A.

coffeeandbiscuittime · 18/08/2022 11:21

@PritiPatelsMaker definitely worth asking for a remark then.
I think DD was 8 marks off an A in chemistry.

coffeeandbiscuittime · 18/08/2022 11:22

Congratulations @Monkey2001 for your DS.
Yes we will join you on the next thread.
