Two more to go...tomorrow and Weds....nearly there!!

ladygrinningsoul · 20/06/2022 21:25

Three more papers for DS, all maths - so glad STEP is done!

RubyDarke · 21/06/2022 10:38

HI everyone, my DD has her last paper today. She's had a rough ride - the Philosophy/Ethics/Theology papers have all been very tough. The rumour was that the boards would go for more general questions this year, but it hasn't been the case at all - very specific questions targeted at specific thinkers rather than wider concepts. It's been a very difficult couple of weeks. She's talking about what she'll do if she misses her offer... At least though she hasn't been affected by the subjects where they examined material that was not on the advance information. That is a downright scandal.

Juja · 21/06/2022 12:42

@RubyDarke That sounds v tough and exhausting for your DD and you as you support her.
The only thing to remember is it is so hard to self assess how you've done in an exam and the grade boundaries are lower than 2019 - mid way between 2021 and 2019 so fingers crossed but I appreciate it makes the next 8 weeks a long haul of uncertainty.
My DD felt she'd had a poor French Oral. Your DD will not be alone in feeling she hasn't done as well as she'd like. My DN was in floods of tears for 24 hrs after her last economics paper.

RubyDarke · 21/06/2022 14:02

@Juja Thank you. She's come home in reasonably good spirits and collapsed on the sofa with the immortal words "I've forgotten how to watch TV without feeling guilty that I'm not studying!"

She is however disappointed that her post-exam trip with her friends to the Welsh coast won't happen due to the rail strike. It feels like the last straw after the horrendous experience this Y13 have had with GCSEs and 6th form.

Bigclockface · 21/06/2022 17:36

All finished here this afternoon! They seem to have gone quite smoothly, but I can’t shake the feeling he has massively underestimated what he needed to do to get the grades. It’s going to be such a long wait…..

Panicmode1 · 22/06/2022 18:51

All finished!!!

So pleased this bit is over - bit of a long wait until the results, but he says he's happy with how they went, so fingers crossed.

Best of luck with the waiting everyone.

HoneyMobster · 22/06/2022 18:55

Hurray for the finishers. Two weeks till IB results for us 😬

Hey @Panicmode1 and @CurlyhairedAssassin . I haven't dared look on here during A levels! I think I remember our DSs are in the same boat, needing A stars in Physics and FM for Cambridge?? How have they found the papers? My DS seems very confident. Was chilled after every paper and only seems to have found a couple of things afterwards that he can see he got wrong. I think he may have bagged it ... we are off to Cambridge early July as the college are having a couple of 'drop in and look round' days. God forbid he doesn't get the grades after all that ... 😩

Panicmode1 · 23/06/2022 16:55

Hi @kitnkaboodle - yes similar experience here. He said they were fine and he knows he made a couple of silly mistakes, but he thinks he's done enough. I'm not daring to count any chickens, but he seems relaxed....fingers crossed!

ladygrinningsoul · 23/06/2022 18:22

All finished at last, now the wait to see if it was enough. DS says he is happy with his performance, no regrets. And now I shall have a large drink.

ProggyMat · 23/06/2022 19:54

DD is done ‘n’ dusted today!
Bit of a mix bag, so to speak , as far as she’s found the papers.
That said, she’s at peace with herself about what she’s done and that’s all she can ask of herself as far as I’m concerned.
@RubyDarke the percentage of A star grades and A grades for the 2022 cohort are being pegged back at a midway point between 25% in 2019 and 45% in 2021, so 35%
Where the grade boundaries lie, will be dependent upon how the cohort did.
Some DC may be gung-ho about their performance to date on the papers and others less so but as a pp said it’s difficult to gauge a paper as it’s subjective?

kitnkaboodle · 23/06/2022 21:24

Good news @Panicmode1 . Enjoy the next few weeks before all hell breaks loose!

Juja · 24/06/2022 21:30

All finished here today, last French paper went well DD said. As others say hard to gauge but apart from one oral the others all went reasonably well.

As importantly she successfully had her visa application for her au pair visa accepted at the French visa place (after being rejected a month ago for being 6 days early). So she’ll know in 2 weeks if she has her visa - fingers crossed - plan is to head off in late August for the year.

mrskan · 29/06/2022 09:09

Hi Cambridge 2022 offer / winter pool graphs published if anyone wants to see how competitive different courses and colleges were in this cycle.

Juja · 30/06/2022 11:51

@mrskan Thanks for the link. DN applying this year so I've forwarded them to him. As you say interesting to see how increasingly competitive it has become. With increase in birthrates from 2004 it is unlikely to reduce.

Bigclockface · 01/07/2022 18:07

Where can the graphs be found please?

Juja · 01/07/2022 18:16

Here is the link, scroll down and choose the course 1 or 5 years the college etc. www.undergraduate.study.cam.ac.uk/apply/statistics

Genegenieee · 06/07/2022 06:35

Good luck to those getting IB results today!

HoneyMobster · 06/07/2022 06:41

Ah thanks. Results don't come out until 2.45pm but we think UCAS will update this morning. Prom Queen is fast asleep 😊

Great news, @HoneyMobster - congratulations to your dd!

Horace123 · 06/07/2022 16:17

DS is in too 😊. We’ve moved from “we don’t really have a plan B” to “why we were worried?” - he got brilliant results. Everything crossed for the A level results next month.

Panicmode1 · 06/07/2022 16:45

Brilliant news, well done to both your DCs...

Juja · 06/07/2022 18:09

@HoneyMobster @Horace123 Many congratulations to your DC - hope you all enjoy celebrating👏👏
