Oh gosh that's harsh @Majaso12 . I've asked DS to ask for the same - doesn't bode well!

Majaso12 · 30/06/2022 07:36

@Pumpkintopf. I think it’s sorted now. I phoned again and they said to get dd to email again with a picture of the email from the warden and the manager will look. Dd didn’t get an email back so I called again just before 5 pm and someone more helpful answered. He said it was agreed on the 9th June that she can stay until 12, but dd needs to talk to hall supervisor. She said they weren’t in the office last night, so she needs to try this morning. That’s if she’s up because her lab isn’t until 2 pm. I don’t know why the others I spoke to said dd wasn’t on the list etc.

Notagardener · 30/06/2022 10:23

We ended up picking up Dd stuff Friday evening and DD then slept in her room without any bedsheets or blanket, so she could tidy up the final hits before the 10am deadline

Majaso12 · 30/06/2022 10:45

@Notagardener. That’s a good idea. We can’t get to her Friday evening though as we have ds2’s graduation in Exeter Friday afternoon if we’re able to go and will be too much then going to London.

Dobbyismyabsolutefav · 30/06/2022 10:45

Thank you for all your supportive messages DD seems to be fine and is happily catching up with old friends and making concrete plans for the summer so all is good.

Well done to your DS @jano69 you must be very proud.

Thanks for the heads up @AvocadoPlant I always rely on one of the Exeter crowd so I can casually mention 'are results out today'. DD was initially annoyed with one exam result which brought down the grade for that module but on reflection her yearly grade was absolutely fine, like @BigWoollyJumpers not the 1st she wanted but not far away. So I think a very good end to the year.

I agree with various comments about the feedback DD does get fairly detailed comments but she was five essays into year one before anything was marked and she found that very hard. The exam module that she was marked down in she would have preferred individual marks for each essay as one went very well the other was a rubbish title and her whole group agreed. I think she needs to be more proactive next year regarding feedback and how to improve to get that first that she very much wants!

I've just got back from girls holiday and very few had masks on at the airport. We have a manic few weeks as we have a sporting weekend, I'm meant to be packing, then off on our family holiday. I'm praying that we all avoid covid. I hope not too many plans are cancelled because of covid.

Enjoy the summer everyone.

Majaso12 · 02/07/2022 07:36

Leaving to get dd soon, but she’s worried she has covid now. Her bf has it, thinks he got at the Summer ball, but then only tested positive yesterday. He went home Sunday and came back to see her Wednesday. She said she had a bad headache yesterday and scratchy throat. Tested negative last night but thinks she’ll test positive today. I could do with knowing if she has it before we leave because I probably wouldn’t come if she does, but she won’t be up before we leave to test.

jano69 · 02/07/2022 09:32

On dear @Majaso12, that is tricky, what to do? So much Covid doing the rounds.

I'm on Day 12 now pretty much over it and testing negative but still feeling oh so tired.

We went to DS's graduation ceremony yesterday. Very proud occasion but physically and mentally exhausting. He has come home with us for the next phase of his life and is no longer a student. I have apparently been promoted to the "Parents of Adult Children" thread on MN, I didn't see that one coming....

DD has just returned from a girley holiday in Ibiza. Our house is bursting with big people, bags and utter chaos. I feel discombobulated.

Pumpkintopf · 02/07/2022 10:05

Oh no @Majaso12 it's one thing after another isn't it?!

How did the graduation go?

@jano69 wow! What are ds's plans now? 'Parents of adult children' does sound a shock Grin

I can understand you feeling discombobulated- perfect word - with all the bags and stuff and much as you love having them home - extra people. Plus the remnants of covid. Hope you can get some rest this weekend.

Majaso12 · 02/07/2022 10:34

Her test this morning was negative.

@Pumpkintopf. Have you picked your ds up yet? Has he got next year’s accommodation sorted?

Not looking forward to trying to get everything in the car and then sorting it out at home. Dd said she’s donated food she has left. I gave her a lot of tinned and packet food and looked like she had most of it left. I can’t just leave things no matter how tired I am, I’ll need to get it sorted it as soon as I’m home and put away and get straight on to washing and ironing.

She got her stats exam mark back which was 89% and average of stats is 80.9%. One part was group work and one boy was cocky saying he knew what he was doing with the programming and they were meant to do it together and he ended up submitting what he did without asking the others. He has now brought her mark down so maybe he wasn’t the expert on it like he said he was! She’s still waiting for the big quiz she did, some write ups for projects and her exam results.

Majaso12 · 02/07/2022 15:37

Dd did a test this morning and negative. Got home and did one and strong positive. Don’t know what to do now. I think I’m bound to get it.

cyclamenqueen · 02/07/2022 15:38

Majaso12 · 02/07/2022 15:37

Dd did a test this morning and negative. Got home and did one and strong positive. Don’t know what to do now. I think I’m bound to get it.

Not necessarily I was at home with dh the whole 14 days he was positive , we slept in the same bed because the house was full and I didn’t catch it . Hope your dd doesn’t feel too bad

jano69 · 02/07/2022 16:49

So sorry to hear that @Majaso12.... what a pain for you. I sometimes feel it's worse for the person exposed and the waiting game.

Hubby and I got "very very close" 10 hours before I tested positive and he didn't catch it. Weird old virus.....

@Pumpkintopf DS keeping his fingers crossed for a training contract with a law firm and planning to start his law qualification this September (SQE1 and SQE 2). More parental support required from us.... won't be off our books for some time yet.

Pumpkintopf · 03/07/2022 09:55

@Majaso12 dh has gone down to get him this morning. He was granted a late check out for today- one benefit of being in Acton I guess, less demand for the tourist accommodation!

How is your dd now? And how are you? Everything home and sorted? I hope as Jan says, you might get away without catching it.

Jan that sounds interesting for your DS - when will he know if he's secured a training contract?

Majaso12 · 03/07/2022 10:56

@Pumpkintopf. She’s feeling really bad now, worse than yesterday. I’m feeling really tired, have been for about a week now and getting lots of headaches and other symptoms but testing negative.

We had to throw 2 storage boxes away, couldn’t fit them in the car. She’d done most of her washing except bedding, towels and a few bits of clothing but all her clothes needed ironing. She’s not up to putting all her clothes away properly yet and I’m trying to keep out of her room. I have been opening her door to see her with a mask on. It’s horrible having to keep away from her when she’s just come back. I wouldn’t have gone to pick her up with dh if she’d tested positive before we left.

Pumpkintopf · 03/07/2022 11:52

Oh no, poor her - that's rough. Hard on you too having to stay away and not feeling great yourself either. Any chance you can get some rest this week?

I'm relieved I didn't go down with dh- they've sent pics of the car and there is not a spare inch of space. Clearly taking his portable piano up two weeks ago was absolutely insane, what were we thinking?! I think dh thought he might've moved straight into a house- but they haven't found one yet!

I'm now up to date with our washing and braced for the influx from DS - under no illusions he'll be as organised as your dd majoso!

I'm keeping fingers crossed we don't end up at a&e later - DS has been having some problems with his toe, he's on antibiotics but it doesn't seem to be helping, then yesterday was at a gig, managed to lose his shoe (!) and it got trodden on. The medics there put the fear of God into him about losing his toe - I'm hoping it's not that bad!

Was just thinking up until that point how nice it was not to have to worry so much about him...

Majaso12 · 03/07/2022 13:42

@Pumpkintopf. oh no that sounds horrible, hope he’ll be ok. When will they be back home?

Both my DSs didn’t do washing when they knew they were coming home from uni and brought back bags and bags of dirty washing.

chopc · 03/07/2022 20:58

Oh dear @Pumpkintopf . Sorry to hear about the toe. Hope he is better soon

@Majaso12 hope your DD feels better soon and you get some rest

All DS washing sorted but his room at home is an absolute tip with clothes everywhere....... as he has no regard for me telling him I like it tidy, I told DH I will ask him to move out

Notagardener · 03/07/2022 23:54

Well, dc going back to London for a viewing of a flat.
She still has suitcases full in her room from when we picked her up over a week ago, well actually, we only picked her stuff up. She got back few days ago.
Told her we need the suitcases next week for our holiday.....

Pumpkintopf , is it actual toe or nailbed that looks infected?

Covid definitely on the rise

Pumpkintopf · 04/07/2022 00:10

They got home about 2 in the end as dh couldn't sleep so ended up leaving ridiculously early. Just as well as it still took a while to pack the car.

A washing MOUNTAIN has now landed...

He's had problems with both big toes , ones had the toe nail removed. The other looks infected around the top of the nail bed (to my untrained eye). He's on six hourly antibiotics but hasn't been soaking it in salt water as suggested (no suitable container apparently!) and it's very swollen and red. Might ring gp in the morning, see if they'll see/speak to him.

Chopc not really though, you're loving having him home, no? I know what you mean though, they do 'descend' rather, with all their stuff and mess.

DS seems to have managed to lose every bit of kitchen stuff I bought him save two glasses and one pan. Yet the car was still full. Go figure.

Hope the flat viewing goes well notagardener-** and that dd lands long enough to empty those cases Grin

DS still doesn't have a house for next year. They're down to four of them sharing now which should at least open up some options 🤷‍♀️

SeasonFinale · 04/07/2022 04:54

Been a busy few days as down to Bristol and moved DS (and his gf) from halls into y2 house (just the 10 of them!!) Lovely house in Redland just off Whiteladies Rd fir those who know the area. They have now gone off to the Far East travelling for 6 weeks.

In other news my Ukrainian guest holds 3 uni offers after a late (by 30 June) application. Funny how quickly a personal statement can be done! Anyway it looks like I will actually be sending another off come September which wasn't on the radar last year with DS being our youngest.

Pumpkintopf · 04/07/2022 07:20

Oh wow season finale how fab - well done them.

10! That'll be a party house then Grin

Notagardener · 08/07/2022 17:02

Just by coincidence I realised DD is planning to get a 24 months contract. Not sure that's a good idea? Although DH says at least rent will be fixed for 2 years (taking into account that DC offered £40 /week above asking price 😯, sharing with friend so £20/wk for just her.

bendmeoverbackwards · 09/07/2022 15:57

Dd has been home for a few days last week then went back to Bristol for more drama rehearsals. She wasn’t coping with the backwards and forwards and she and I had several long talks about the impact on her mental health. She was loath to pull out because she hates quitting and letting people down. But seriously putting rehearsals from Wednesday-Friday every week throughout the summer and expecting students to either stay in Bristol or go back and forth is crazy! Anyway she has pulled out now so hopefully can properly relax.

We’re a covid house currently! Dh had it first 2 weeks ago but luckily was ok for us to go to Rome for a wedding last weekend. Then I tested positive on Wednesday evening, then dd3 last night. It caused major problems because yesterday we had to drive to Bristol to move DD’s stuff from halls to the new house. Dh was at a work meeting yesterday morning so I had to drive myself yesterday and he got the train. I stayed in the car while Dh helped dd pack up (the room was like a bomb site apparently). I wore 2 masks and we kept all the car windows open. Dd has gone to Weymouth for the weekend, she’s back tomorrow.

bendmeoverbackwards · 09/07/2022 15:59

DD’s house is really lovely! She has one of the smaller rooms but even that one is a lot bigger than her halls room, double bed etc. It’s just opposite the downs.

bendmeoverbackwards · 09/07/2022 16:03

@SeasonFinale I think your ds must be quite close to my dd, her house is also close to Whiteladies Road.

@Pumpkintopf your poor ds and his toes, what a worry. Wish him better.

@Majaso12 hows your dd? Hope she’s feeling better.
