Continuation of the previous thread for those of us with children who are just finishing their 3rd year at university (so either "graduating" in 2020 or going into year 4 in Autumn 2020)..........

My twins' degree results will be out in late July. Good luck to everyone else waiting for finals results.

Grin good!

Haffdonga · 19/08/2020 18:40

Hooray for Badkitten's kitten!

HarrietWimsey · 19/08/2020 18:42

@OYBBK Good to know mine isn't the only one who's on top of things! Wink

penelopeplums · 19/08/2020 20:26

@OhYouBadBadKitten

Thanks! I think I might take a look at things, for a pretty competent adult she does have little blind spots of panic. I think it's because it's the same course code for the BSc and MMath.

When we find the answer I'll post it here for others.

That's odd! For DD's it was a different course code, I remember DD telling me that Bristol had got the course code wrong because they had offered her a place on the MSci and not the BSc Grin How much she had to learn at that stage!
OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/08/2020 21:37

It is a bit odd!

I'll read some of your threads I think to try and get a sneak preview of what might be coming up. Just so I can panic dd some more Grin (not really, but it is helpful)

Hope everyone's well and our students are having the best summer they can, given the circs.

DH & DS are en route after emptying his uni flat today. He's still staying at his friend's, so only home overnight then off to friend's again tomorrow.

He's STILL not applied for the Masters 🙄 couldn't decide which to apply for but it's now ready to go (so he says).

Xenia · 23/08/2020 20:56

All well here. One twin comes back from his girl friend's tomorrow and I think they will now be apart for the rest of the summer. He starts law school on 6th and hers - not sure when hers starts. I believe he is going to the Lake District with a school friend for a few days before term starts.

Other one is here with no friends staying for once - nice break for me and he seems fine. He doesn't want to think about anything to do with studies and is just relaxing although has now sent his documents to the law school THREE times and they keep sending some reminder to send them. We have sent them to all possible email addresses so I suspect they just have some computer which spews out reminders even if you have submitted them.

Good luck to Horsemad son in applying for his masters. My son who is returning to Bristol I think about 6th depending on his friends (law school begins on line so in theory he can be here, not that he wants to be, if his friends are not back in Bristol), has quite a few friends on 4 year courses or doing masters so there will still be a lot of them in Bristol which is one reason he wanted to do his course there.

He is the one I feel sorriest for as his once in a lifetime gap year travelling has been cancelled and they all know that it can never be replaced just as their final term at university can never be replaced. Anyway they seem happy enough. I am glad one got to Cyprus on holiday and the other is hopefully going to the Lake District so at least they have been away somewhere holidayish given our family holiday was cancelled.

Good luck Horsemad

We saw Dd for a couple of days as she had a bit of time off from work. It's busy here as it's back to work and school next week, none of us are looking forward to that.

Carriemac · 24/08/2020 22:47

I’m so fed up.no transcript or degree confirmation from oxford for DD, and no flexibility from her masters course re deadline next week so she may miss out in a place and have nothing lined up for this academic year . She has worked so hard for this and there seems to be no solution. She has a house share sorted , has moved to a different country , quarantined so she can start this course and now bureaucracy has let her down.
Any ideas ? The masters course leader has basically said produce the documents or miss the place.

Xenia · 25/08/2020 11:42

That is really frustrating Carriemac. If I have problems with big companies sometimes sending a public tweet but not identifying myself gets swift action but that may not work with Oxford. It is the usual thing of if you cause trouble they may be less not more likely to help. Do we know how has the marks physically so what are the steps to getting them typed in?

May be she could put everything she has had from oxford in terms of marks from year 1 through to year 3 on a pdf headed expected marks and attach the latest response from Oxford and they might accept that in the interim at the new place although does not sound likely from what the new place has said.

That's just so unfair @Carriemac Your poor dd. I do hope somebody can break the stalemate for her.

Carriemac · 26/08/2020 09:32

She's finally got a PDF of degree confirmation letter emailed to her and submitted Thant instead of a transcript so fingers crossed

Horsemad · 26/08/2020 13:49

Fingers crossed @Carriemac! 🤞

Carriemac · 26/08/2020 22:12

Yay she's in! Thanks for all the good wishes - she and I have quarantined so we can move her in to her new house share at the weekend Smile

Haffdonga · 26/08/2020 22:20

Hooray Carriemac! Star

Horsemad · 27/08/2020 00:05

👍 😃

Xenia · 27/08/2020 07:58

I am glad they accepted that and she is in. It must be a big relief. I hope others in the UK in the same situation can get any still awaited confirmations never mind transcripts and degree certificates.

One of mine now has his student card (electronically anyway) and his main priority with the photo he likes most and seems to have managed to register okay. It sounds like they will be on line only until at least 21 Sept (course starts on 6th Sept and ends 11 April). His twin on same law course but in a different City has not found any registration emails yet so either he missed them or they are not yet here. It is useful to have a twin to check with. I want him to deal with it before he goes away with his friend to the Lake District next week as once he is back it is almost the course start date. He might call the institution up he says.

CarrieMac what a relief 👍.

DD had a bit of a fright today when someone put online that her Masters subject course had been cancelled. Fortunately it was the other branch of the course and hers is okay.

It's a bit last minute for people who have signed housing contracts, got jobs, etc. I guess they were hoping more people would sign up.

Carriemac · 28/08/2020 00:54

Honestly it is a relief, and I really feel for those who have had their plans changed and offers withdrawn . Shes picking modules now, and I’m hoping to deposit her in her new house and return to the uk and normal life. One of the joys of working remotely has been the flexibility to work from our holiday home this month whilst quarantining.

bigTillyMint · 28/08/2020 09:54

Phew @Carriemac!

Eeek @SMaCM - that’s awful to pull it at such a late date.

DD is registered for her Masters AFAIK but is somehow locked out of her student portal so can’t check anything on there Confused

SMaCM · 28/08/2020 12:05

I just want to thank you all for your support this year and let you know that DD has submitted her last piece of work for her degree, within her (very) extended deadlines.

bigTillyMint · 28/08/2020 12:13

Excellent @SMaCM! Fingers crossed Smile

Horsemad · 28/08/2020 12:38

Well Done to your DD @SMaCM, she persevered - good on her! 🙂

Haffdonga · 28/08/2020 20:35

Great news @SMaCM - real resilience on your dd's part. Smile
