Hope you don't mind - people have pent up comments about cheese graters and traffic cones to get out of their system!

Mine also had a student credit card for specific purchases (petrol/ new clothes etc)- paid off every month to help build a rating.

Benjispruce · 18/10/2019 20:54

DD doesn’t know who her GP is at uni?!? She filled out the registration forms in the pack she received, sent an email and hard copy. She doesn’t need a Doctor right now but I want her to find out for future needs. @bigTillyMint does your DS know his?

bigTillyMint · 18/10/2019 20:58

@Benjispruce, I have no idea! I know he sent the stuff off to register. If it's like at home, we just make an appointment with whoever is available. Then if you find one you particularly like you can ask for them - maybe the same?

Benjispruce · 18/10/2019 21:00

But she doesn’t know which surgery?

bigTillyMint · 18/10/2019 21:36

I think it was Claypath that DS applied to?

Benjispruce · 18/10/2019 21:43

That rings a bell. I didn’t realise she was applying directly, I thought it was a general application that would be confirmed by the surgery that had space for her. Confused

bigTillyMint · 19/10/2019 09:51

I think unis have a linked surgery? Think that's what happened with DD... Will try to remember to check with DS when we see him!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 19/10/2019 10:36

Dd was messaging me at 8am today
When I asked her why she was up so early on a Saturday she told me she wants to bake a cake and the kitchen is quiet at that time.

Witchend · 19/10/2019 10:38

We decided not to reregister for a GP up in Durham.

The last time dd saw a doctor for anything other than a non-urgent (read could wait to end of term, eg one was a mole check) was aged 8yo, and she's only been 2-3 times since then for non-urgent care. And our surgery does a very good telephone consultation and can email/fax prescriptions out.
And our home surgery's full so she wouldn't get back into it if she left, even if she came back to live at home.

She is very reluctant to see any doctor, let alone one she doesn't know, so I suspect if she did need to see one that badly, she'd be ill enough to either be sent to A&E or me to need to go and fetch her home.

Benjispruce · 19/10/2019 10:49

DD hasn’t seen a doctor for years but I don’t feel happy with that as a reason to not have one close by if she should need one in the next three years. I want her to find out just for peace of mind really.

SchrodingersKitty · 19/10/2019 11:08

Frantic 8 am phone call from DS not knowing how to adjust his bow tie for matriculation!

I think that's the last of the tricky induction-type events, so hope it settles into a bit more of a routine for him now.

Ginfordinner · 19/10/2019 11:22

She is so lucky Benjispruce. DD is on regular medication, and needs to have her blood pressure checked regularly. It had to be done by the GP, not the pharmacy or a nurse.

Shimy · 19/10/2019 13:11

Random question but does anyone recall wether Birmingham, Exeter and were in Clearing this yr? what i'm after if i'm honest really is which of the RGs were in Clearing this year? I know Liverpool, Cardiff and Southampton were or if its easier which ones definitely weren't?

blametheparents · 19/10/2019 14:44

@Shimy - Do you mean for any course? I would imagine that there are a certain number of courses at most RG unis that went into clearing, but other courses won't have done.

JennyWreny · 19/10/2019 15:09

@shimy Definitely York and Sheffield. I'm pretty sure I saw Exeter but not 100%.

Trewser · 19/10/2019 15:28

Every uni was in clearing apart from oxbridge and iirc st andrews

Trewser · 19/10/2019 15:29

Birmingham and Exeter definitely were

Trewser · 19/10/2019 15:29

But the exeter ones were mainly Cornwall campus

Shimy · 19/10/2019 16:14

@blametheparents Yes, for any course (but normal courses not the odd BSc Voodoo etc) i remember last yr Birmingham was in clearing for a very obscure course but nothing else.

Thanks to everyone who has replied i'm taking note of the ones you've mentioned.

Trewser · 19/10/2019 16:16

Birmingham had lots of humanities courses in clearing

The one that wasn't in clearing everywhere was Sports Science deapite being in clearing everywhere the year before!!

Shimy · 19/10/2019 16:16

Is clearing meant to be capital 'C' its a verb but also a noun (could be wrong) I like to get these things right as English isn't my first language.

Shimy · 19/10/2019 16:33

@Trewser, odd that. I think its becoming more and more popular.

blametheparents · 19/10/2019 16:38

@shimy - now, a course BSc Voodoo could be very appealing! 😂😂

Shimy · 19/10/2019 16:47

@Blametheparents I actually saw saw in the paper or something similar some yrs ago.

juicy0 · 19/10/2019 17:11

@Shimy birmingham was on the clearing list for geog when I looked
