What are the best Oxford Colleges?

Does it really make much difference where one gets accepted?

Do the “best” colleges get the strongest applicants/brightest/most able?

There are so many ways of researching Oxford Colleges and it is small enough that a decent day's outing you can get a feel for many of them. That said , a DC may be sent to another college , so in the last resort decide whether you want "an Oxford College " or not ( if pooled. ) Ds's friend said he would shake hands on any of them and was happy where he ended up ( not quite so central college but near enough and lovely gardens)

That said - UCL is fantastic Grin ( Personal opinion may apply )

There was someone on here last year (or maybe the year before) saying her dd was adamant she was going to turn down her Oxford place because the college was not old (ie no Harry Potter dining hall/picturesque chapel etc). It just doesn't do to set your heart on one particular college, especially if it is one of the "headline" ones which will be heavily oversubscribed. Ds had interviews at three colleges, each one progressively further out!

My DD is at New College reading law, I have been impressed by the college and the pastoral care
and its very Harry Potter esque
shes not the highest achieving academically of my DCs, in fact she didn't make her offer grades for law but they still took her, she is quiet but articulate and insightful but definitely has that certain something intellectually that they were looking for.
(nicest college is Worcester according toher)

Ds and I liked the look of Worcester when we visited but then looked at the statistics on numbers applying - it seems everyone else likes it too as it has the highest proportion of applicants to places.

Yeah, Worcester is nice and all that, with their lake, but can they boast this little beauty?
