A level biology remark

Is it worth remarking A level biology that's 7 marks off an A? Would have to lose 16 marks to go down to a C. Not sure whether to get 1 paper remarked or whether it's worth the risk. My ds was very shocked and did feel he did so much better though and definitely did well enough for an A and even even A* after seeing how low the grade boundaries were.

Not been told it is back yet. Dd ringing up college tomorrow.

Majaso12 · 04/09/2017 18:43

After having an email today from my ds's maths teacher today saying he was very surprised by his result, it's made me think about it a lot again. He's considering retaking the c3 exam next year, but will have to fit some revision around his university course.

Will keep you posted!

Biology teacher has found 4 questions that should get extra marks, although examiner may not have been able to read ds's handwriting. Also maybe more on suggest questions. Suggested having all 3 papers remarked, but we're trying 1 at a time to be safe, but there may not be time to have all 3 remarked now.

Best of luck with the remark Brew

Majaso12 · 06/09/2017 18:14

Rang OCR who have said the remarks take up to 20 days but usually at least 16-17 days, so looks like we won't have time to get all 3 papers remarked now.

Dds papers back. Getting them.on Fri and hopefully maths teacher can take a look turn too and we can make the decision.

RedHelenB · 08/09/2017 13:21

Went in to get maths papers back. Quick look through with her teacher and not definite she'd get the marks for an A although it would be close. She's happy to not have it remarked as it won't ever make a difference to her career wise so we won't gamble 90 quid!

Majaso12 · 08/09/2017 13:59

That's good that she can move on from it now. We put c3 in for a remark but not expecting any change, I know it's very unlikely. If it did go up at all, we may put another paper in if there's time left, to try and get 8 raw marks. Not at all hopeful though. It's not nice I don't think looking through the papers, seeing silly mistakes etc and thinking if he'd done the exam paper not in exam conditions, he probably would have done much better.

Tbh she could have worked harder and concentrated more during her exams but she's got into her first choice uni doing dentistry and she's really looking forward to that. And maybe it's good in that it's a bit of a wake up call to maybe do a bit more revision!

Majaso12 · 08/09/2017 15:17

She's done extremely well to get into dentistry.

Still not got remark back for biology and the deadline for remarks is today. Wanted to put 1 more paper in for a remark, but didn't want to risk putting more than 1 in at a time. Will be so annoying if the paper we're waiting comes back tomorrow and for goes up and it's too late for the last paper to be put in. We can definitely see 2 marks on the last paper that we feel he should have got marks for.

Just found out there's been a change to his marks but grade has stayed the same. OCR have not said if his marks have gone up or down or by how many

RedHelenB · 21/09/2017 22:56

That s a shame Majaso but at least you know for definite now.

Majaso12 · 21/09/2017 23:23

Have now found out paper 2 went up 1 mark!

Well worth the money for the remark lol!

Majaso12 · 22/09/2017 09:39

We then had 15 mins to make a decision about putting the 3rd paper in for a remark and decided to put it in. I’m regretting it now though. I don’t think it’s going to go up enough, worried it could go down a grade and he’ll lose his university place, also don’t want it going up a few marks if it means he ends up being 1 or 2 marks off. Don’t know whether to cancel it, but it will be embarrassing and don’t know if I’d get the money back now.

OP posts:
RedHelenB · 22/09/2017 12:51

If there's any realistic risk of it going down i would cancel it. Like I said dd had her uni place and decided that a level grades wouldnit matter to her dentistry career.

Majaso12 · 22/09/2017 16:31

It would have to go down 17 marks to go down a grade.

OP posts:
Seti · 22/09/2017 22:56

I think going down 17 marks would be an outrage. I know it happens but it must be v rare.

Good luck, how many marks does he need now for a grade change?

Majaso12 · 22/09/2017 23:43

He needs 6 marks, originally he needed 7. I know it’s very unlikely it’s going up that much in 1 paper. I phoned OCR today and they said the paper is likely to be with an examiner now, so might be too late to cancel.

OP posts:
Seti · 23/09/2017 14:07

Fingers crossed for you that it goes up.

Shewhositsbythesea · 25/09/2017 10:32

Just found out that my eldest's geography A level grade went up from B to A. If he had received this grade in August he would have got his first choice place. He is happy with his second choice thankfully.

Majaso12 · 03/10/2017 10:29

The 3rd biology paper stayed exactly the same. Got 3 papers remarked and only 1 paper went up and only by 1 mark. What a waste of money, but I suppose would have always wondered if not!
