OK, I know I'm a bit early, but let the hand-holding begin...

Come and join us if you (and your DC) are about to start the UCAS process in September - applying for a place in 2018.

I've got DS1, who wants to do Computer Science in 2018. Looking at various Russell Group unis and maybe Oxbridge.

Can you link it please?

I have so far suggested Guardian good uni guide, for what its worth.

Risotto301 · 22/10/2017 11:16

Yes DS applied in first week of October. Hope will hear back from Birmingham and Sheffield next week! More for giving him peace of mind and confidence for the coming interviews!

LadyMacnet · 22/10/2017 14:49

Been lurking a lot but I thought I’d update now we are in the full throes of UCAS. DS sent his application on 23rd Sept. He wants to study mechanical engineering and has put down Bristol, Cambridge, Imperial, Leeds and Southampton. His school qualifies for contextual offers and Bristol were super speedy in responding with an AAB offer. He has an interview at Leeds on 8th Nov. I’m not sure how serious the interview is though in terms of whether or not he’ll get an offer, as it is part of a wider applicant open day in engineering. He really likes Bristol, and is being pragmatic about Cambs and Imperial; he understands how competitive it is to get an offer from either uni. His school hasn’t sent anyone to Oxbridge to study STEM subjects in a very long time, so it is a bit of a long shot but his predicted grades are in line with the entry requirements. I hope all your DCs are enjoying their half terms - strange to think they will be all be at uni next year.

How long do Warwick take to offer for maths?

LadyMacnet · 22/10/2017 15:38

One of DS’s friends wants to do maths. He sent his application about a month ago and has just received an offer from Warwick in the last couple of days.

Risotto301 · 22/10/2017 16:26

Has your son got interview from imperial?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/10/2017 16:40

Thanks Lady! That’s good to know. I wonder how that works with MAT.

LadyMacnet · 22/10/2017 16:47

Risotto no, all quiet on the Imperial front. He’s away this week, so at least he is free from me asking to check his emails 5 times a day!

voilets · 22/10/2017 18:17

Was looking on student room for Warwick and noted most students last year said they received offers in November and December including early entries. So hold tight! We are! Smile

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/10/2017 19:57

Great detective work Voilets!

HeyBells · 22/10/2017 20:05

DS says he has been asked for bits of information including from Imperial, and has sent an extra statement to Durham naming the course (a variation of physics), but no offers or interviews yet.

Littledrummergirl · 22/10/2017 20:08

Ds1 has now completed everything he needs for most of his choices he's now waiting to hear if he's going to get an interview. One of his choices seem to be slower with their questionnaires as no-one he's in contact with has heard anything.

insert1usernamehere · 23/10/2017 12:18

@LadyMacnet - as your son has got a contextual offer from Bristol, might he also be eligible for Access to Leeds? www.leeds.ac.uk/info/128005/applying/33/alternative_admissions/2

Fifthtimelucky · 23/10/2017 20:05

Hooray, daughter has had the offer from Exeter she’s been waiting for. All offers now in. She will send two two rejections off quickly, I think, but hasn’t decided yet whether to make Exeter or Birmingham her first choice.

HesMyLobster · 23/10/2017 22:12

Wow Fifth that’s fantastic, congratulations to your dd! It must be a brilliant feeling for her - to be in a position already to make those decisions.

YippeeTeenager · 23/10/2017 22:14

Phew, DD has her first offer, feeling very relieved! Lancaster and probably quite low down on her list of preferences but it’s done her confidence the world of good today Smile

HesMyLobster · 23/10/2017 22:20

Fifth do I remember right that your dd has applied to Durham?
When did she get her offer from them? DD has said from looking at TSR that she’s not expecting to hear from them until March!
Or is it because she’s applied for Music so it’s different/faster?

Or have I got completely the wrong poster? in which case please ignore my rambling! If I was at home I’d read back through the thread to check, but that’s too much effort on mobile!

HesMyLobster · 23/10/2017 22:21

Yippee Yippee! Wonderful news for your dd too Smile

YippeeTeenager · 23/10/2017 22:24

Thank you lobster. It’s made it all feel very real and not just safely theoretical!

marmiteloversunite · 23/10/2017 22:31

Great news Fifth! If you want to know anything about Exeter as a city I can probably help you out.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/10/2017 22:36

Excellent stuff Fifth and Yippee :)

marmiteloversunite · 23/10/2017 22:46

Well done to Yipee too!

My DD sent all of her essays off to Oxford today so we will have to wait and see if she is called for an interview. She is happy with her other offers though which is great.

LadyMacnet · 23/10/2017 22:47

Fifth gosh, that’s good news for your DD. She’s in a good position to take her time now to decide how to narrow it down to a Firm and Insurance. Yippee what a nice bit of half term news for your DD too.

Insertusername thank you for alerting me to the Access to Leeds scheme, that’s useful to know about. I think Bristol are a bit unusual as all students in my DS’s school qualify for contextual offers from them. It’s not in a deprived area, the GCSE progress 8 is really strong and the A level results are okay. I think the school is in their scheme because it is a non-selective school in area with a lot of selective schools and some prestigious private schools.
