How's everyone feeling? My dd was pretty much able to forget about results during July but said in a very quiet voice this morning, "I'll find out this month where I'm going."

Is anyone doing anything yet in preparation for 17th? Should we be doing anything yet in preparation for 17th?!

But splat was saying that they are likely to get their places anyway - if applicant numbers are down (and I've seen figures of 26k or so mentioned) and the grades are lower then universities will be taking people with lower grades I reckon - they need bums on seats to get the money.

It's all a guessing game for those of us who aren't in the know, not much longer though - this time tomorrow it'll all be in the past for the great majority.

ImListening · 16/08/2017 22:13

Yes I agree user but my view is all that work & not reflected in the grades.

user9512736123 · 16/08/2017 22:21

Yes, I agree - we can see it differently probably because we've got the benefit of age and experience but to them it's more likely to be all about the grades.

My DS has always set himself the target of A* in everything, it's really not necessary or desirable in my opinion. I'm glad he has aimed high but it's always been the be all and end all for him and that's not so good. I've always tried to reward effort but he's fiercely competitive.

tobee · 16/08/2017 22:30

I'm torn because obviously I want ds to get in to his firm but I worry they're massively over stretching themselves (the universities) in every way. Dd graduated this year from a RG uni and I felt there was not the pastoral care and attention needed. Particularly for her year abroad.

AFingerofFudge · 16/08/2017 22:31

Can I join at this late stage??? Am sitting here worrying about DS1's results in the morning. He wants to do computer science and has an AAA offer from Birmingham, insurance is AAB from Nottingham (same as shyposter)
He's the most laid back person and unfortunately was (in my opinion!) too laid back with his revision. I'm so nervous!!!

AFingerofFudge · 16/08/2017 22:33

Have just put in a request to join the Facebook group freeda

tobee · 16/08/2017 22:34

Hi AFinger. Times like this I hate social media chat. All ds's friends saying "I bet I've done really badly!" Probably get all A* Grin

JoelyB · 16/08/2017 22:41

DD emerged from bed-beneath-laptop for supper and has now gone back and says she's going to sleep. She's been an utter nightmare all day.
She didn't get into Oxford so at the time felt like she'd been let off the big push for grades but still needs AAB and now I think it's hit her that wasn't the walk in the park it felt like after Oxford stopped being a thing. She's worried she took her foot too far off the gas and didn't make it.
Please excuse jumbled forms of transport in metaphors but wine is being consumed.

it's nearly tomorrow - good luck to all

user9512736123 · 16/08/2017 23:13

Envious Titchy, I'm sober in case I need to go and collect DS! I've told him not to be home late so I hope it's sooner rather than later.

Good luck everybody.

tobee · 16/08/2017 23:14

Stupid exams.

FreedaDonkey · 16/08/2017 23:24

For anyone else interested. Only a few of us and it's anonymous as not linked to here at all

Startoftheyear2017 · 16/08/2017 23:37

Good luck everyone!

Leeds2 · 16/08/2017 23:43

Was in this place last year!

Just wanted to wish everyone's DC the best of luck, and hope they end up where they want to be.

pericat · 17/08/2017 00:07

Anyone whose dc did the STEP Maths paper(s) - the results are now available to download! Ds very relieved that he did well enough to reduce his offer by one grade.

stonecircle · 17/08/2017 00:16

Good luck everyone. And many thanks to those who understand the system and have so patiently and kindly taken the time to answer questions.

JoelyB · 17/08/2017 00:29

Seconded and here's hoping.
Not sure I'll be sleeping much tonight.

Eve · 17/08/2017 06:04

Nervously awake

user9512736123 · 17/08/2017 06:06

Ditto. Why are we awake whilst our teens sleep ?!

GrimDamnFanjo · 17/08/2017 06:09

Awake here too.

RedHelenB · 17/08/2017 06:09

I'm.awake too but only because dd was moving around! Can get results at 7 30 so not much longer!

doglover · 17/08/2017 06:12

Been up since 04:30 - didn't want to disturb DH with my restlessness!
