How's everyone feeling? My dd was pretty much able to forget about results during July but said in a very quiet voice this morning, "I'll find out this month where I'm going."

Is anyone doing anything yet in preparation for 17th? Should we be doing anything yet in preparation for 17th?!

DD1 is relatively calm.
I am stressed.
My own A Level results were brought to me at the shop I worked in during the holidays by my father, who had been into school to collect them for me and so already knew what I'd got. It was very low key. This was a long time pre-mobile, pre-internet.
I shall be clutching my phone all morning at work and hoping that DH rouses himself from his usual level of chill to support DD if all has not gone to plan (as we suspect.)

Grammy78 · 16/08/2017 15:56

My fault tobee as I signed up to find out which subjects would be in clearing, they think I'm a potential student who are weighing up their options.

stonecircle · 16/08/2017 16:00

I'm hoping ds changes his mind and looks on track before he goes into school. He has a tendency to let me know exam results by texting me a photo of the printed sheet they get given at school. Resulting in me frantically trying to enlarge the screen and hunt for the overall grade amongst all the module grades ...

tobee · 16/08/2017 16:05

Oh I get it, Grammy! Since I think the whole process is cruel & unusual torture anyway, I thought that was pushing it extremes. Grin

doglover · 16/08/2017 17:26

Will schools/colleges have A level results yet?

BizzyFizzy · 16/08/2017 17:28

The exams officer and head teacher will have had access to the results all day.

doglover · 16/08/2017 17:30

Thanks for the information, BF :)

[doglover] schools had results released to them from midnight. My friend just texted me to say that she's just finished stuffing the envelopes!

ShootingQuadrantids · 16/08/2017 17:32

Oops doglover I'm rubbish at this!

ShootingQuadrantids · 16/08/2017 17:35

doglover how embarrassing Blush

A friend of a friend works at the college that DS went to and will now know his grades as he's been at work all day dealing with results.

I am considering driving over to his house later with a bottle of the finest malt and a large cheque

ShootingQuadrantids · 16/08/2017 17:39

Hope DS is more able in his results than I am at posting on Mmn!!

JoelyB · 16/08/2017 17:44

Oh my days. Daughter has taken to her bed. She has just secured a fab part time job in the city where her first choice Uni is. So now all we need is the grades.
This is my second of two to go through this and I'm not sure I'd survive a third!
The STRESS tho?!

tobee · 16/08/2017 17:56

Help!

Just thought. How do we know what numbers to ring in clearing?

SallyOMalley · 16/08/2017 18:03

Admissions Officer here. No advice to add as gannet has said it all Smile.

Good luck to everyone receiving results to tomorrow. Having sat in front of a PC all week juggling numbers, grades and applicants, I try hard not to forget that there are the hopes of hundreds of young people behind my screen.

Hope everyone gets what they wish for. I am always impressed at the size of the brains out there.

(Meanwhile, I've been sitting on my arse for days and have eaten my body weight in biscuits ... That's the downside of my job!)

LittleHo · 16/08/2017 18:11

That's lovely Sally. Starting to feel a bit sick tonight.

It has been such a rubbish year so my family could do with some good news.

Good luck everyone. Wishing all your children well.

user6832531571 · 16/08/2017 18:18

Aww, that's lovely Sally

DS is now like a bear with a sore head. He's decided at the last minute to go out with his mates tonight, hopefully he won't be wanting a lie in tomorrow.

@tobee the universities have the admissions office numbers on their website - I don't know if we need the standard number or the department one though.

shortgreengiraffe · 16/08/2017 18:24

DS has decided that, if he misses his grades for his first but exceeds the grades for his second choice then he's still going to go to his second choice rather than look at a better university in adjustment

^ he wouldn't be eligible for adjustment. It only applies if you exceed the grades for your firm choice, not insurance.

BizzyFizzy · 16/08/2017 18:26

Just had a look at the Edexcel grade boundaries. DD thinks that they are quite low for her subjects.

SallyOMalley · 16/08/2017 18:28

Each university will have a message on its homepage about who to call for Clearing. It probably won't be the department as it tends to be centralised. All phones should be diverted to the temporary clearing hotlines though.

Alternatively, take a look at the Telegraph's online clearing search tool. All the universities in Clearing will be listed in there along with phone numbers, etc.

Grammy78 · 16/08/2017 18:29

Where have you found them BizzyFizzy?

BizzyFizzy · 16/08/2017 18:31

There was a link from another thread here.

JoelyB · 16/08/2017 18:38

Any idea where?! We can't find them.

SallyOMalley · 16/08/2017 18:43

They've changed it this year. Grade boundaries were available this morning to exam centres, but not until tomorrow for everyone else: here

BizzyFizzy · 16/08/2017 18:49

It's pretty easy to find on Twitter.
