Continuing Roisin's thread.

I've even succumbed to TSR, having sworn I wouldn't. Still no news here and haven't heard of news from any other source in the same subject at the same college but being very uncool tbh as the reality is that rejection after an interview would be much kinder for DS than a no ab initio. Massively cheered by a late afternoon offer from Bristol though. I thought I was chilled, I'm clearly not Grin.

Fingers crossed for everyone still waiting and hoping. It's very hard to see them disappointed, is the problem :(

Great post HelloLA!
Littleham I saved this post all about where to go and what to do in York because we live near there and it had some fantastic recommendations, useful if you're trip planning.
Hoping for good news on the thread later, I envy you potential Oxford mums, all over and done with after today. I think DD may strangle me before Saturday if I spout any more reassuring platitudes!!!

ladybyron · 07/01/2015 09:24

I echo HelloLA comments. You never really know the full decision making on the other side of the fence. I have just started a PhD at a major London uni. My supervising Professor, who is also a former Cambridge academic, explained why my post-graduate application to that Uni was rejected; it was simply that they do not have the subject specialism in my particular field. Full stop. I never realised that as when I initially applied we were encouraged not to approach individual supervisors first. My disappointment on a Cambridge rejection and doubts about my academic competence were put firmly back into a context of which I had no prior knowledge about.
There are many brilliant institutions out there with academics passionate about the learning experience for students, so whilst I wish the best of luck for results today, please reassure your children that their hard work, passion and commitment will be recognised and cherished at other worthy unis.

Good luck to all the Oxford apps! DD is convinced it will be a no from Cambridge so she has been making plans to go and revisit her other offers. It seems to be doing the trick as since her interview she has been obsessing about Cambridge and she completely forgot how much she loved Warwick and QMUL.

Littleham · 07/01/2015 09:25

Your post made me laugh HelloLA. Speed dating is such a brilliant description! Describes the process perfectly - we had no idea it was so intense.

Thanks cathyandclaire. That thread is really useful - she wants to go to every museum, but I have pointed out that there are over 30 of them! Hmm I think if she goes to York there will be enough tea shops to last for four years.

Special good luck to the fellow History Musketeers. Hope you hear from the other choices soon. All for one, one for all!

MarianneSolong · 07/01/2015 09:33

Could we have a cyber party please? Wine and lots of canapes, plus plenty of space for people to weep drunkenly in corners.

I'll bring some tapenade and a bottle of Cava,

cathyandclaire · 07/01/2015 09:54

I'm doing dry January, I'll bring sparkling water and an extremely grumpy expression Grin

MarianneSolong · 07/01/2015 09:58

Perfect! I can wear my new eBay jumper.

HocusUcas · 07/01/2015 10:32

Good idea Marianne,
I thought last night of making myself a machine to put me into hyper sleep like Sigourney Weaver at the end of Alien. As I only had two kitchen roll inner tubes and a pack of AA batteries to work with , I didn't get very far.

Iamcuriousyellow · 07/01/2015 10:40

DD has got an offer from New College to read Philosophy and French, AAA to include French but not General Studies. Bristol is her insurance choice with ABB. So relieved, and delighted for her - it's been a rough few years with diagnosis of ASD and all that preceded that, and just such a wonderful validation for her.

Good luck to all your DDs and DSs this morning.

And thanks to you all for this thread.

RandomFriend · 07/01/2015 10:41

LA, that is a great post. Thank you for the insights. Speed-dating is a great image for what went on in DDs interviews.

Cyberparty is a good idea. I'll bring a plate of canapes, bubbly for everyone (they are all winners) and a shot of whiskey for anyone who needs it.

RandomFriend · 07/01/2015 10:42

Our first offer! Well done, Iamcurious's DD.

HocusUcas · 07/01/2015 10:44

Iam

Fantastic news - congratulations

MarianneSolong · 07/01/2015 10:48

Cava updated to champagne.

cathyandclaire · 07/01/2015 10:52

Well done!!! Fantastic news :)

MarianneSolong · 07/01/2015 10:54

Mulled wine is on offer too. Warming and relatively low alcohol. Contains healthy fruit!

MadameJosephine · 07/01/2015 10:56

Yay! Great news iamcurious let's hope your DD is the first of many mumsnet offers!

roisin · 07/01/2015 11:02

Woohoo! Our first offer. Great news. Well done Iamcurious dd!
(I'm at work and don't normally logon, but am keeping this window open to watch the Mumsnet offers come in.)

GraceFox · 07/01/2015 11:19

Fab news! Well done to Iamcurious' dd. Smile

Molio · 07/01/2015 11:32

DS has just got an offer - I'm in shock tbh, but good shock. The very best of luck to everyone, but especially to the other two history DC - my fingers are crossed.

Oh that is so totally brilliant Molio and Iamcurious. Really pleased for you and your dc's. Smile

roisin · 07/01/2015 11:54

Brilliant news Molio! Well done: awesome.

HocusUcas · 07/01/2015 12:07

DS has an offer.

cathyandclaire · 07/01/2015 12:11

Aaaagh!! So exciting, well done to Molio and Hocus

Decorhate · 07/01/2015 12:13

My dd got an offer for medicine! Over the moon and it's her first offer so even sweeter. Texted her when the post came. She was going to come home at lunchtime but school let her come home mid-lesson as they knew she wouldn't concentrate much!

Classicsgirl · 07/01/2015 12:14

Delighted but gobsmacked to report DD also has an offer for Oxford. So being convinced you've failed the interview doesn't have to mean you don't get in. Good luck to all still waiting. It's an unpredictable world!
