I don't think I can do this NVQ........

I'm struggling so much with my first NVQ2 Care Workbook. I know the majority of answers without looking them up.....but I just can't put them into writing. It's like being back at school doing Engish - I could have got a A at Highers (Scottish) if only I could actually write stuff.

I was always really good at the reading and comprehension........as long as it was straight facts stuff, anything that I had to go into detail or analyze/compare stuff I just couldn't get the words to make sense on paper........and it's happening all over again with this stuff. Looking at the questions most of them should be really straight forward but I'm so cr*p it's almost unreal. I've been sat here for nearly 2hrs and I've not managed to answer a single question apart from one where I have to describe something that's happened before (ie straight facts).

Don't you have a tutor, you could see? Most colleges have a learning support room, for help with essays etc.

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 10/09/2006 16:34

we're doing it 'in house' at work - seeing my assessor again on Tuesday - I had initially arranged to see him last Monday - but afterwards I realised that was unrealistic - I got the work about 5 days before I went away on holiday, and arranged to see him 2 days after we got back !

and it's not even essays.......it really short questions that only need a few sentences per answer

southeastastra · 10/09/2006 16:37

sometimes they're worded to make your brain frazzle. give us an example!

lucy5 · 10/09/2006 16:39

What about a friend or dh? My dh is a real waffler, so he used to do his work and I would cut it down, polish it etc.

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 10/09/2006 16:47

What things could affecct the following in relation to your clients

The Clients ability to go to the toilet

The client's personal beliefs and preferences on cleasing and toileting

The amount of assitance required

How can you encourage the client to be as self-managing as possible, without pressurising the client

See it's all really simple stuff which I can do - just can't explain it in writing .

southeastastra · 10/09/2006 16:55

i know what you mean my brain's scrambled just reading them. by ability i suppose it means are the actually able to get to the loo themselves or do they have to have help etc.

southeastastra · 10/09/2006 16:57

you could try here if you haven't seen it

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 10/09/2006 16:58

this is only the first workbook - I've got 6 of these to do in total. There's a few of us doing our NVQ at work, one other girl that I work with has already completed 3.......

southeastastra · 10/09/2006 16:59

i know nvq s are a pain! i went on a introduction course for playwork but they said i need to do a diploma instead so i have that to look forward to. i think they like to use long and confusing sentences i have no idea why

coderoo · 10/09/2006 17:01

How can you encourage the client to be as self-managing as possible, without pressurising the client? - praise - use examples of ohter clients are role models - tell other pople int he clients prescnece how great they are - arrange for htings to eb bought that woudl enable the client to be able to gett hemselves out fo a chair for eg

coderoo · 10/09/2006 17:01

try satrting your aenswer in a full snetence

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 10/09/2006 17:02

it's not that I don't understand the questions.....I just can't put the answers into words.

OP posts:
coderoo · 10/09/2006 17:03

what are the answeres?
tell us adn we will put them into words

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 10/09/2006 17:04

that's the whole point cod......I can't write the answers down!!! I know I can do my job and I know how to do my job properly......and Level 2 NVQ is 'supposed' to be just about 'proving' you know the stuff....but I can't do it. It's all flooding back to me what I hated about school.......

OP posts:
coderoo · 10/09/2006 17:05

but if youcant tell us the answers how cna oyu knwo then?
ok if hte poerson cant go to he loo by themselves how is this different form if they can>

there mUST be some difference?

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 10/09/2006 17:06

well obviously if they can't go to the loo on their own I have to help them, help them to walk there, help pull their pants down and back up again, change their pad (if applicable), encourage them to wash their hands and help them back again.

OP posts:
southeastastra · 10/09/2006 17:07

yes starting with sentences:

The Clients ability to go to the toilet could be affected by.....

The client's personal beliefs and preferences on cleasing and toileting could be affected by....

does that make sense?

coderoo · 10/09/2006 17:07

so there is an issue of privacy then

coderoo · 10/09/2006 17:07

adn it takes time away form other thigns you can do
it also is a hygiene issue for yo

LadyTophamHatt · 10/09/2006 17:08

Are they 4 separate questions? It's not worded very well is it?

What things could affect the following in relation to your client

  1. The client's ability to go to the toilet.

You could mention things like mobility problems, bladder/bowel problems, medication, memory loss/dementia etc.

Actually before I go on, do you want help with ideas as to what to write or how to write your answers??

coderoo · 10/09/2006 17:10
