I've got another thread somewhere disappearing off the active convo's - but I'm really floundering here.

Got my first one-to-one with my NVQ Assessor tomorrow, have to provide my CV (don't have one!) and produce a 'self profile' (basically a page of blurb about me - nothing 'selling' myself - just, well just about "me" really - who I am, how old, kids, what I did before I worked where I am now, how I got into my current work etc etc etc).

I haven't got a clue what to write - how to write it - anything - and my meeting is at 10am in the morning so won't have time to do anything before I go.

I'm completely lost and don't even know how to start

You DOknow what your doing you have just told me in your first post...
grab a bit of paper and write down your name your age bits and bobs about yourself...

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 09/08/2006 21:53

I'm trying - and it sounds like something DS1 (who's 5 and will be going into YR1 in September) would write

charliecat · 09/08/2006 21:55

Yep know what you mean
Stop stressing the assesor person will see LOADS of these. Just keep it simple.

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 09/08/2006 21:56

I can't even think how to do a basic introduction - I'm Gwen XXXXXX, I'm 27yrs old, married and have two children...................see it's just so, well so cr*p!

OP posts:
charliecat · 09/08/2006 21:57

It not, its FINE.
Thats the truth, you can put bells on it...I started working at XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXxx in bla bla bla
I enjoy the ABC bits of my job, especially...whatever
etc etc etc

charliecat · 09/08/2006 21:58

I mean you CANT put bells on something as simple as name age marital status. It sounds fine .

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 09/08/2006 22:01

I don't even know how long it should be - I'm guessing a couple of paragraphs - but not sure I can fill that much without waffling and spouting a load of rubbish........great a few paragraphs that could have been written by a 5yr old

OP posts:
charliecat · 09/08/2006 22:02

It will be fine. you will be face to face with her and she will say Its fine...honestly.

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 09/08/2006 22:04

it's a "him" actually .

OP posts:
charliecat · 09/08/2006 22:04

Ok, put a good bra on wiggle your boobs and move on to page 2

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 09/08/2006 22:06

PMSL - CC - that put a smile on my face.

I've really been looking forward to doing my NVQ - but now the reality is here and I actually have to write stuff I'm floundering - and this stuff should be easy - it's all about me!

OP posts:
charliecat · 09/08/2006 22:11

lol, its so easy a 5 year old could do it
Its getting it together enough in your head.
Good luck for tommorow

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 09/08/2006 22:18

perhaps I should wake DS1 up to do it for me - I'm still struggling............if I can't even write a "simple" self profile and CV how the hell am I going to get through my NVQ work?????? and [worried]

OP posts:
charliecat · 09/08/2006 22:28

I thought you had done it...come on...socks up...put it on word, print it out. Make the text size bigger than norm then have a coffee:-)

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 09/08/2006 22:29

no I'm still battling with it .

Need to do a CV after this too [frown] - might need to go and have a cigarette in a minute though

OP posts:
colditz · 09/08/2006 22:30

don't worry about this, really!!!!

Just type a neat list of which schools you went to and what you have done since you left!

is it NVQ2?

charliecat · 09/08/2006 22:30

The fag wont write the CV...

Simple, to the point. Big text.

colditz · 09/08/2006 22:31

I ahave done nvq2 and have my folder here, if it might help you, so don't worry how you will cope with doing it.

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 09/08/2006 22:32

colditz - yes Level 2 - there's no Level 1 for Care.

I'm nearly finished the self profile - just doing an edited version of my life history LOL.

It's pretty cr*p - but it'll have to do.

It's the CV which I have to provide which is going to be even worse than this!

OP posts:
colditz · 09/08/2006 22:36

Now then, let me put this in perspective for you.

NVQ 2 is easy. They questions are worded in a difficult way sometimes, but believe me when I say they don't expect a great deal in the way of answers. You can do this, I know just from chatting to you that you are perfectly capable.

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 09/08/2006 22:37

I know - everyone says it's quite straight forward - but I'm struggling to even write a semi-decent (or even 1/4 decent) Self Profile!!

OP posts:
colditz · 09/08/2006 22:41

Just tell the truth on it, there's only so many knobs you can stick on "Part time care assistant with kids", believe me, I know.

all they want it for is to see if you are literate enough to cope with the NVQ. Bear in mind, some people aren't, and the assessors don't know who they are until they6 try you. It's not a test, it's probably to give him an idea of how much time to spend with you.

chubbleigh · 09/08/2006 22:41

Do a mind map, you know like the branches of a tree, write you first and then branch off in every direction and keep branching out until the page if full. You-kids-man-parents-where-when etc. etc. Then each branch is a different bit and you can form it into sentences and paragraphs.

colditz · 09/08/2006 22:42

just have a bash, hand it in, and if there is anything not there that he wants to be there, he will get you to write it in there and then probably, but he will certainly tell you.

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 09/08/2006 22:42

they already know how literate we are! To qualify for the free funding from the European Blah Blah Blah (can't remember which scheme it is LOL) we had to do a literacy and numberacy test last week - did quite well in that - but it was all done on computer and no writing involved.........
