Phew! Just got my application for pgce primary into the GTTR today and thought i'd start a support thread before I reward myself with lots of Wine.

This is my second attempt, I applied on the off-chance last year and unsuprisingly didn't get a look in. Better luck this year!

WELL DONE!

That's fantastic, you must be so pleased. Get DD2 dancing too Xmas Grin. What a wonderful early Christmas present.

Hi

Can I get this thread going again?? I had a primary pgce interview at Edge Hill 14th Dec and still haven't heard. ITS DOING MY HEAD IN! i applied back in early October and I'm quite concerned that if I'm unsuccessful my 2nd choice course will be full before they even get my application Confused

Has anyone else had an offer?

Greenknowe · 13/01/2012 21:01

Hi Madbutmeanswell, have you got in touch with Edge Hill? Perhaps give them a call/email just to see what's going on? Especailly with xmas and the New Year buggering up the post.

I had an interview elsewhere in December and track was only updated earlier this week to tell me that I have a conditional offer Grin!

Good luck!

Hi Greenknowe, well done you!!

I phoned Edge Hill Fri and they said the faculty are still making decisions and they still have people to interview.

So after all this waiting it might still be a 'no.'

Where are you doing your PGCE?

PastGrace · 15/01/2012 16:04

Mad - I'm one of those people still waiting for an interview (sorry)! It's not until 28th March, so if they are going to leave it until after everyone has been interviewed I imagine you're in for a long wait. As I said upthread, due to delays with my reference my application didn't get sent until 16th November, so I assume there are quite a few people who applied after me (and therefore presumably got interview dates after me).

I do know that Edge Hill didn't get their allocations until fairly late (I think that's the same across the board, but can't be sure). Was the interview really horrid? I'm so worried about the subject tests.

Well done Green.

Madbutmeanswell · 16/01/2012 11:30

Hi PastGrace

at the interview they said they would let people know ASAP after they got the allocations- it is an oversubscribed course though, I guess they have a lot to go through.

Prep well for the tests- get some KS3 revision guides- they are multiple choice but is they kind of thing you just won't know unless you've revised. The titles of topics to study (in the email attachment) tally with the titles of topics in the revision guides so its quite straight forward.

The tutors were a really friendly bunch tbh- they actually tried very hard not to make the day daunting (although of course it still is!!!)

Good luck!!

PastGrace · 16/01/2012 21:34

Thanks - I've already got my KS3 guides but I'm becoming very aware of just how much I've forgotten.

Good luck for you too - I hope you hear soon.

Sorry to keep bumping this. Just found out my interview has been rescheduled from 28th March to 8th February so having a total meltdown about being ready in time (they said I could change it back, but since it is first come first served I thought I should be grateful for any earlier dates).

Mad, can I just ask (then I'll leave you alone, I promise) is it ok to not wear a suit? I have a smart outfit which I'm comfortable in and I think is appropriate for teaching, but I'm worried because it is an interview they'll expect suits. But I don't want to turn up in a suit to find a room full of people in smart-casual and have them think "clearly this person has no idea what teaching seven year olds involves".

Madbutmeanswell · 23/01/2012 21:50

Hi PastGrace

I'm not sure my advice is the best- I've just found out I was unsuccessful Sad

People either wore suits or VERY smart office type clothes- although its for primary the dress and atmosphere was very professional- people definitely had their 'adult friendly' rather than 'child friendly' heads on -iyskwim!!!

I'm now waiting to hear from my 2nd choice course which is lower primary at Edge Hill.

Also be ready to do the education issues test- the Q on my day was something like 'why is creativity in the curriculum important?' (20 min essay)although I think it will be different q for each interview day. The individual interview was exactly what you'd expect- why do you want to teach? What makes a good teacher etc? For the group task we were put into small groups and asked to plan a lesson- I think what they were after was awareness of curriculum, need for assessment and differentiation more than anything.

Very best of luck

PastGrace · 23/01/2012 21:51

Oh no - bad luck, I'm so sorry Sad. Good luck with your second choice.

I just got back from an open day at my second choice (Institute of Education in London) and I totally hated it, so I basically don't have a back up now - I've shot myself in foot a bit!

Thank you for all your help - it's so kind of you.

Madbutmeanswell · 24/01/2012 19:45

No problem ... and good luck Grin

Migsy1 · 30/06/2012 23:35

How is everyone doing? I'm starting my secondary PGCE in September. I can't wait!
