A Level Anxiety

Toffee22 · 14/08/2011 22:42

Only 4 more "sleeps" until the A level results come out - not that I will be doing much sleeping...

Eldest son wants to study medicine. 3 "A's" required no slip ups allowed. Have just checked and most medical schools don't accept re-sits. How can I face looking at the cold hard facts at some point on Thursday. I'm sure it will be difficult for my son too! When I tried to talk to him about it today instead of a response he said he would do an "impression of a tree". It wasn't even a very good impression. What does this mean?

Curry, yes, absolutely. Nothing to be lost by making that call and potentially a lot to gain.

pinkgirlythoughts · 18/08/2011 08:48

Definitely Curry- if they haven't made an offer, and he needs to go through clearing, he needs to know about it asap.

Mumsnet needs a "Like" button!

I think it is too early to speak to the unis yet? Have managed to speak to DS but he was just going through customs so he was no help!

FellatioNelson · 18/08/2011 08:55

Right. I'm waiting for my cleaner to arrive in 6 minutes then I'm going out to by a Telegraph as a displacement activity. I'm getting a migraine.

sieglinde · 18/08/2011 08:55

Well done to all and hugs to any who didn't get there - you're all so active and loving that your dcs will be fine. FWIW, my dc got his AS A in French, and surprisingly his AdMaths result too, also an A; they don't go to A* so he's very pleased. Will start the whiteknuckle GCSE thread next week, but for now let's all enjoy Wine. I will be Around so do message me for Oxbridge advice.

FellatioNelson · 18/08/2011 08:55

Not really. But I do feel like I might. My head is full of too much blood. I can feel it heating up and swooshing around.

Can we all spare a thought for missdisorganised1.

She lost both her parents in a car accident and has managed superbly this year . I think of her often and am in awe of her courage.
She is awaiting her A level results today.

Good luck and love MissDissorganised1

TeamDamon · 18/08/2011 09:00

Fellatio - my friend works in admissions in Manchester and had her first clearing enquiry at about 8 am today so not too early to give the unis a try!

drcrab · 18/08/2011 09:01

University clearing hotlines etc would have been open since 7/7.30. Good luck everyone!

thank you, mumof3teens Smile

he's applied for politics & philosophy.

he has caved in now & tried track (before setting off for college) but can't get on...

Charleymouse · 18/08/2011 09:05

SO excited for you all. Hope your DCs get the results they want.

I see a few of you have DCs coming to Sheffield. Good choice. Grin

If anyone wants a place to stop for a cuppa/toilet break weep after dropping them off come Sept/Oct I have a lovely range of tea coffee and can even offer cake although not home made.

drcrab · 18/08/2011 09:06

Curry: what were his offers? What's the insurance? He needs to get on the clearing site (or you) and find out where is still available for what he wants to do. Pronto.

Curry - get him to ring the university. They may still take him.

Some fab results here - good luck to everyone. We're waiting on ASs this morning - the last of my 3 to go through this. Not looking forward to the nail biting next year.

Fellatio - I remember the spontaneous combusting feeling.

pinkgirlythoughts · 18/08/2011 09:11

keep ringing Curry- if you can, get everyone in the house ringing on mobiles, so you'll have more chance of one of them getting through.

notyummy · 18/08/2011 09:13

Curry - the home/uni distance thing can be a red herring. They worry about it and then never come home anyway. Unless they are particularly vulnerable then it shouldn't be a problem. My DPs were in Portsmouth when I went to Glasgow Uni at 17 and it was the making of me - although probably really hard for them.

Fingers crossed for you all.
