Highchair or seat for 7-week-old at worktop height

Hello

FTM to a 7 week old :) I am looking for some kind of high chair that can be used from now so I can have him at my height while preparing food, working (my work involves standing at a work bench) etc

I currently put him in the carrier (but not always practical) or the bouncer (feels disconnected when he is down on the floor and not enough room on tops)

Is there such a thing?

Bonus points if it can adapt/grow with him
Extra bonus points if under £150 (although neither of these stipulations are deal breakers 😁)

Thank you x

Baby bouncer or a sling would be safest at that age. Baby can't support themselves so would not be able to sit up or support themselves x

tutugogo · 12/03/2026 15:02

Yes they exist. We had a graco one but my DD’s are adults. There seems to be a few options under £100 too

Please do not put a bouncy chair on a table or worktop ? It's not safe.

7 weeks won't work for a normal high chair.

Sounds like youre looking for something like the newborn set on the tripp trapp. 2nd hand and cheaper versions are available!

tutugogo · 12/03/2026 15:04

They recline so are safe from birth though due to position would not be appropriate for extended periods very young (safe with car seats)

I agree that a newborn set on a trip trap would work. I can't think off the top of my head of other things out there like that.

Thank you.... that is why I was wondering if there was a "newborn safe" option ie that has a secure/lie flat type attachment for smaller babies rather than a sit up seat that would work.... unsure if such a thing exists.

We were kindly gifted a high chair for when baby is older but I was just thinking how helpful it would be if there was a baby seat product at the same height :)

Stokke Tripp Trapp have a newborn insert for the Tripp Trapp which they can grow with. They eventually can grow to the toddler insert then won’t need any of the inserts and can just use the seat when they’re older. They are over £150, especially with the insert but you could check on Facebook marketplace for any for sale local to you.

Oh lovely thank you, I will look that up! Don't mind going over budget for the right thing. :)

A hauck alpha is a high chair that you can attach a bouncer to so they are at table height. When they then start eating the bouncer comes off and its a highchair which lasts until they are about 12. Also the bouncer can be used on a frame on the floor. So provides loads of options and flexibility. It's like a tripp trapp but cheaper.

shellyleppard · 12/03/2026 15:09

@newmumjc when my son was small I put him in a baby bouncer or a wicker carry cot/bassinet basket and took him round the house with me. Would a carry cot be an option? X

Ah this is perfect! And we have some JL vouchers so that is a bonus. Thank you so much!

And looking at some of the alternatives, I would definitely recommend the tripp trapp but looking for 2nd hand. My son hangs and climbs on his and some of those cheaper competitors dont look sturdy enough to withstand a standing/cruising baby or toddler.

applegingermint · 12/03/2026 15:15

That Kaos Klapp link is just for the baby seat - you’d still need to buy the high chair as well (another £190!)

Another recommendation for the Tripp Trapp plus newborn set. They’re often on FB Marketplace but they do hold their value if you purchase new. JL have both for £270 currently.

BarnacleBeasley · 12/03/2026 15:15

I think you'd get better value and potentially a sturdier product getting the tripp trapp, baby set and newborn set bundle which is on offer at JL at the moment, OP - that seat PP linked to is £110 just for the bit that clips onto the Klapp highchair, which you'd also have to buy.

Or just buy the newborn seat and get a secondhand tripptrapp.

How long would they be in it? Are you trying to work whilst caring for a baby?

Was going to suggest this one too. My DS, now 2.5, was very happy in the new born seat. Imagine a car seat type thing that clips-on to the top of a baby chair, but safe, naturally.

FurryGiraffe · 12/03/2026 15:23

We had the Stoke, which was great. Sold it on eBay afterwards for nearly what we paid for it.

Thank you. He does nap in a wicker moses basket during the day but the stand isnt quite high enough. Plus I am thinking something more for his short wake windows when he wants to be beside me and I need to prep dinner or such like if that makes sense. It would just feel nicwr having him at the same height while I chat my nonsense to him aboit what I am doing 🤣

That is exactly what was in my mind! It will be a huge help
