My dd got an 8 in maths too - she was really chuffed as she was worried that she might get a 7(!!!!!). She is in year 9, not year 2 or 6! She got a 7 in science but doesn't know the English yet - does anyone? I am just showing off here - I can't show off anywhere else because everyone would hate me if I did, so you Mumsnetters can hate me instead, but I can live with that. I must say it is very nice to be able to comfortably share this news with someone other than my dh. My parents were always really interested but now that they have gone, it is lovely to be able to boast about them! I will let you know what the 11 year old gets too - hopefully I will be able to show off again.

Piffle · 29/06/2006 15:32

Hiya
has anyone actually had their child's English SATs results yet? My dd (12) has taken her SATs a year early as she is in an accelerated set and has had her maths result (she got a level 7 and was very happy!) but has been told they will not hear about English until September. Anyone know anything about this?
By the way, well done to all of your wonderful children, it's nice to have something to be proud of isn't it.

HenniPenni · 05/07/2006 14:49

DD year 6 got hers last week, did very very well

roisin · 05/07/2006 18:15

Shewhoneverdusts
Maths and Science SATs are very quick and easy to mark, so the results come through much quicker. Our school had KS3 SATs for Maths and Science a couple of weeks ago.
Our English results are due mid-August, the same time as GCSEs. I don't know whether this is a national schedule or not. (It's a real pain in terms of setting for next year etc., but is a reflection on how difficult English is to mark.)

shewhoneverdusts · 06/07/2006 08:03

Roisin, thanks for that. I was explaining that to my dd when she was asking why they would be so much later. I said with maths and science the answers are either correct or incorrect whereas English is far harder to mark in my humble opinion. that means I will hear about my GCSE before she hears about her SATs. I bet she still does better than me!!

bummer · 06/07/2006 14:08

Er, can someone direct me to the SAT explanation site please?

bummer · 07/07/2006 09:40

please?

bummer · 07/07/2006 11:54

ok !

shewhoneverdusts · 07/07/2006 17:22

I think its on the dfes site but can't be certai, will check and get back to you.

janeite · 07/07/2006 21:28

Yes the KS3 English results for all schools don't come out until August. Think it's actually a ploy to give teachers as little time as possible to appeal - as they used to be notoriously badly marked when they got them out at the same time as Maths and Science results.

Since we're bragging (!!!!) can I add that my dd got all 5s in her KS 2 results? She's delighted, as she'd convinced herself that she would "fail Maths" - God, what kind of world are we living in when 11 year olds think that?

brimfull · 07/07/2006 21:49

Right I have to boast about my dd as can't boast to anyone else. She also got an 8 in maths and a 7 in science. She was most chuffed with getting a level 8 in music( not sats ,but end of yr exam)!

Thanks for that!!

longwaytogo · 07/07/2006 21:57

ok I just want to add that not all children do brilliantly and want to be the voice for those that don't my dd yr 9 has got a 4 for her maths 4 for english but her teacher thinks it should have been a 5 and 5a for science i think.

She is good at things like music, design technology and R.E and has been predicted A* for Music and sat a test the other week that no one else of her year has sat and got high marks. So am equally proud of her even though maths and English are not her strongest subjects. Stupid sats should be banned, can't believe our head decided to do them even though they don't have to (schooling in Wales)

janeite · 07/07/2006 22:33

Totally agree with you, Longwaytogo. This year I've taught a very low ability group, who will be lucky to get Level 3s in their KS3 English SAT and am dreading their disappointment - a stupid system, developed by stupid people who have no idea (or really don't care) about the damage that they are doing to the children who don't live up to their measurements. And to the schools who work so hard with those children - the only "payment" being a low placing in the league tables. Don't get me started actually - I'll go and look at the Boden sale and calm down!

longwaytogo · 07/07/2006 22:51

janeite can't help but agree, you only need a few special needs children and you slip down the league table no end. A childs ability should be based on a years work not one test, too much pressure at too young an age dd's went to a primary that a few years ago was no 4 in league table and the whole focus was how to achieve in sats, extra revision, mock tests for months its stupid. Then moved area and went to a school where there was no pressure whatsoever.

Sorry have hijacked the thread will go crawl into my corner now, probably killed the thread anyway

HeroesJustForOneDay · 07/07/2006 23:12

I'm not trying to be horrible, but this thread is for G&T children. We all know that not all kids are "gifted and talented".

SmirkingMummy · 08/07/2006 00:00

He is actually very pleased with himself. He had a "special" meeting at the senior school with just me this week and they told him that they were really impressed. I am hoping upon hope that this will give him some really well deserved self esteem and to show him that even though he is "different" from the others, he can achieve!

Hiya
well we've had the science one now and she got level 7 for that too and is delighted. Just have to wait for the English now.

louise35 · 09/07/2006 21:28

I am so relieved my DD suffers from epilepsy and ADHD and managed to get 4a in both maths and english and 5 in science. I don't want to brag as I am not the bragging kind but just wanted to share my news as I feel so very proud of her and its proved that her illnesses haven't held her back. Well done to all the other girls and boys out there for getting through their Sats!!!
